Dear Alexia,

If they are driving or are gonna be away from us, they have a phone- usually around 16 to 17 yrs. old. We don’t get smart phones because of internet access, except for Zach and Lawson, who use theirs for work (We have passwords blocking their internet access, unless supervised, and we use covenant eyes and ever accountable programs for extra accountability). Love, Kelly

Yeah, he's an adult, so he could easily choose to get his own phone and do whatever he wants with it. Clearly he doesn't mind abiding by his parents' rules, so whatever.

:ew:

Wonder how close he'll be to mom and dad once he and Whitney get married

Maybe the password will be a wedding present :naughty:

So crazy to read that and YES Zach is over 21

I don't get this. They can borrow money from Lawson but he can't have interent access without supervision? what if he is on the job and needs to check whether a check has cleared? What if he needs to use his phone to deposit a check or email someone? How can that man (he is a man) run a business that helps support the family and not have access to the internet? And Zach? And elected official but not trusted on the internet?

Something tells me that the kids all know the password and they are letting mom and dad live happily in ignorance.

Yes the irony is insane :cray-cray:

:ew: Being on the ATI Board of Directors probably gives Gil an even bigger sense of entitlement/authority :pull-hair: :disgust: :wtf: :angry-screaming: :angry-screaming:

It must be horrible to be so insecure in the children you have raised, and it must be even worse to have them living as children while they are adults. I can't imagine...

It is possible that they do. After all the kids may well be more tech savvy than the parents. Then again maybe not.

If one of them is an elected official of some sort wouldn't they Have to be online for work sometimes ? I imagine they might have some sort of typical business Internet screen that blokes porn and Facebook.....but he must have access to everything else.

The way she worded that was confusing anyway. So they need smart phones for work but have them password locked ? That doesn't make sense. Maybe she meant the two of them have smart phones, but they are password protected so their siblings can't use them ?

I wonder how these "kids" aren't offended by this type of mentality. Their parents don't trust them. Doesn't matter how they've behave or what they say in regards to how they'll behave. It just doesn't matter. They're guilty with no chance of innocence. The intellectual/emotional lobotomies they perform on their kids are so disgusting. It offends me so much. God, I must be getting old. This type of thing makes me so cranky. ^^

I just googled ever accountable and covenant eyes. Both are tracking apps that send reports on every site that you visited to a third party. So if they do have the passwords it's not going to get past mommy and daddy for very long. It's really pathetic. For people who profess to be all about faith, fundies seem to have very little of it when it comes to trusting others to hold to their beliefs.

I feel bad for fundie kids. Nomatter how good and trustworthy they are, they are treated like they are criminals. Their parents will never trust them to make their own decisions, so they are controlled. Imagine feeling that nothing you will ever do will make you a good person in your parents eyes and therefore God's. That your parents think so little of your character and morals that they dont trust you to have freedom-they think if they let you go out alone, you will probably go and do drugs and sleep with anything that stays still long enough or run away and never come back, if you see a womans knee you will automatically turn into a rapist (or even worse, see a baby's diaper and become a pedophile), if they let you use the internet, you will suddenly become addicted to porn and spend all day masturbating to all the filth the internet has to offer. They must think their parents think they are terrible people. They must even think that about themselves.

Will they release the passwords once he marries? I would assume so.

Some of the radio ministers suggest that all men with computers have a program on their computer that reports back to their minister or other responsible man to make sure they don't go to bad sites.... ALL MEN?

Who gets the reports for the minister or other responsible man?

This what I have never understood. Fundy men are supposed to be all knowing and their word is law in their families. Yet, they cannot have access to the internet because they might not be able to control themselves with all the porn out there? Isn't that just saying that the men are weak?

Who would WANT to read through someone else's boring-ass online history looking for any sign of titillation?

This is something that's always bothered me. The claim if you raise your kids right they will turn out ok but they really don't seem to believe that.

We could really play with Gil and Kelly's heads by linking our internet searches to their tracking program and then going to town! They'd probably implode.

Oh lord.

Why do they insist on having their engaged kids send texts to siblings first to send them on then? They see everything. Overkill.

I feel sorry for Zack and Lawson. As others have mentioned, Gil and Kelly borrow money from Lawson quite a bit for groceries. The Primetime special from a couple of years ago filmed Lawson buying groceries for the family. Like other posters have mentioned Internet access is very key these days for many jobs. I know people who are self-employed and having smart phones is helpful for them in order to check certain things when they aren't at a computer. The self-employed people I know have said that they only use their smart phones to check emails, online banking, and business stuff. They don't like checking other stuff on their smart phones and they prefer computers for other stuff.

This is just ridiculous. What is the point of raising them so strictly if you can not trust the as ADULTS?

Not that I think there is anything wrong with Zach or Lawson looking at porn, but still, if that is part of the values they raised these kids with and if their parenting methods are so superior, why can't they trust them to be accountable for themselves?

I was raised to take responsibility for my actions and to hold myself accountable (I may have made a few mistakes, but I was the one fixing them, lol). When I left at 17, my parents exepected that I would be making my own choices. I would have been very offended if they started snooping on what websites I visited on my phone or making important life decisions for me, and for that entire first sememster, they were legally entitled to. They trusted that I would make good decisions (which for the most part, I did) because they were confident in the way the raised me.

You are all forgetting that although these ppl might be adults, more importantly they're SINNERS who can never be trusted to do the right thing unless they have someone breathing down their necks to make sure. To be fair, I wouldn't be surprised if Gil & Kelly have 'accountability partners' too.

To paraphrase Steve Maxwell: I don't trust my children as much as I love them.

Vomit.

They are NOT adults. They cannot be an adult if they are single. Even married, the father still can have authority. I don't think the Bates kids think about this stuff. It's all the know, after all. They've been raised on Gothard-generated FEAR of everything.

Zak is a County Commissioner. If it's like my county, that's a lot of boring meetings. And if they don't have debt do they pre-pay a year's cell phone contract? Pay-as-you-go cards? And is the business debt-free or do they have lines of credit that somehow doesn't count as "devt"? Does Gil gas up the tree service trucks with cash or pre-paid gift cards? That's another topic I know, but the cell phone thing brought it to mind AGAIN.
