Any word on fundie responses to the election?

In early 2002 I took a cross-country flight and ended up being seated with me in the aisle seat, an older (early 50s-ish) white woman in the center seat, and a 30s-ish Arab man in the window seat. Early in the flight the Arabic man got up to use the bathroom and left his briefcase at his seat. The white woman gives a side-glance to the briefcase and then turns to me and asks, in a fearful/scandalized tone, "Why do you think he left that here?" (the implication being that it was a bomb or something)

I was a teen and too afraid of getting into trouble/causing a scene to tell her how stupid and offensive what she was implying was and have always regretted it.

People like that would blow their tiny minds if they lived in Northern Ireland. Quite a few white, Christian ex-terrorists over here.

I love my country but sometimes I wish we could divide along red state/blue state lines. Watching the red state country begging for readmittance would be hilarious.

If I did not live in NC, I would agree. Perhaps if there was a way for people to easily migrate if the country split, I'd support a break up. I love my country but sometimes I think that it would be better if the red states went their own way. They take more money from the government afterall. The blue states would have to immediately take the military equipment out of the red states because I don't think that Republican right wingers would live peacefully with the other states. Once those red states realized how much they need the federal government, they might decide to supplement their income with war.

Jesus Christ.....GET OVER IT ALREADY FOLKS!

With all of this moaning about 'AMERICA IS DEAD', you'd think we've elected Bin Laden or something.

Even when Bush was reelected there wasn't this much outcry...damn.

I'm proud to be an American, but I seriously hate these people. So you don't agree with the outcome? Fine. But don't go threatening to kill the president or go on and on about 'AMERICA IS SO DEAD OBAMA IS SATAN' because we all know it's due to because he's Black and the fact that Obama supports equality for all...including the women and 'GASP" the ebil, ebil gays...

So much this. One of my husband's relatives (thankfully only by marriage-his wife is a sweetheart and we don't know how she lives with him) has not stopped posting end-times, our country is becoming socialist, we have abandoned God (blah, blah, blah....) crap since the election. I just wish he would STFU already.

Also, when I was a kid one of my neighbors was a Muslim. He was an American-born, black man who had converted in his youth. He was a genuinely nice guy that we considered a family friend. In fact, his brother took my wedding photos. I also had a middle-eastern Muslim history professor in college. She was a very nice lady, a great professor, and was completely annoyed by all the religious bickering. I do not get the Muslim-hate at all. Every religion will have some people who take it to the extremes, Islam included. There are terrorists of all different faiths, and all different races. They are not representatives of their faiths, they simply use their religious beliefs to justify hurting people that they don't like.

Much to my horror, this showed up in my FB feed this morning. Awful.

Abigail reacts to the election results.

abigails-alcove.blogspot.ca/2012/11/my-thoughts-on-election.html

Suddenly, we got to the first debate. That first debate knocked my socks off. I didn't just like Mitt, I suddenly believed that this economy wasn't "unfixable." My husband and I looked at each other and said "we could start a business." We don't just have to sit still and let this economy roll over us. So we started some projects, and the coolest one is that we're working to open up an abandoned Rock Quarry that's behind our house and convert it to a public lake.

I'm not sure how Obama being president quashes their plans to create a man-made lake, though I'm confused about how they planned to turn this into a business. In my area, most manmade lakes are either within business parks, or they are public lakes that are part of a town's park district.

I'm reading through some of the other responses to the thread. I get chills down my spine. This reminds me of a lot of the comments that happened when groups were boycotting the All-American Muslim show. I hate to say this, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is something kind of mass hate crime against a Muslim community in the U.S.

It's funny/weird/disconcerting that this guy is using the all-Muslim thing like a trump card (They'll be killing their own, therefore it isn't real terrorism); as if Muslim victims of terror don't exist. I really do need to stop looking at shit from Facebook.

The hate groups are particularly active right now per the SPLC.

“Welcome to a truly white minority world,†wrote one commenter on Stormfront, the world’s largest white supremacist Web forum, which is run by a former Alabama Klan leader. “The future is now. There is no denying this. The sun has set on humanity’s greatest era: 1500-2000. …

For months now, groups on the radical right have increasingly fretted about a possible Obama victory. Now that that has occurred, the radical right may grow more dangerous still.

Oh, FFS. Abigail would have to develop WAY better budgeting skills before she could begin to think about starting her own business. People like her and Chris Jeub are just looking for excuses because they know they don't have the follow-through to pursue their ideas anyway.

I'm also in NC, and I am heartened because we are SO close to being a blue state. We were blue in 2008. In 2012, we were the closest split of any red state - a few thousand more votes and we'd have been blue. You can see the margins for all the states here and NC was so close: fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/11/08/as-nation-and-parties-change-republicans-are-at-an-electoral-college-disadvantage/#more-37366

I am feeling pretty confident that in another few elections, we'll routinely go blue for president. Now if we could just get the state legislature less red before they completely defund schools and healthcare.

OK, sorry to derail into local politics... back to our regularly scheduled snark. :)

edited for riffle

Here's an--ahem--interesting person. http://www.classwarfareexists.com/its-o ... z2Bu0htsvc

I love the new trend of publicly shaming racists.

At least two women have lost their jobs (the doctor's office in Georgia and Cold Stone Creamery in California) for their social media reactions to the elections, and specifically using a word only suited to racists and those singing rap songs. Will they be counted in the group of "Americans that lost their jobs because Obama got re-elected"?

The one in California also spoke of Obama being assasinated.

Ugh, please don't think I am defending these women's views, but unless they identified themselves as employees of a certain doctor's office or of Cold Stone, they shouldn't lose their jobs over their social media posts.

I just read the story on the woman who lost her at Cold Stone. I think the fact that she wished assassination on the president might have been the main reason she got axed. I watched the interview she did and something about her creeped me out. She totally reminded me of the PP. There was backlash after the PP's praying for Obama's death sermon. He lost a major account for his business.

If you work at a doctor's office and you use the n-word to refer to a black person then I absolutely think your employers are right to fire your bigoted ass. I would not trust a bigot to provide the same level of care to everyone. Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences.

I'm not on Facebook, but I have a vague idea that that stuff (your job, your employer) does appear on the average Facebook profile.

The use and misuse of Social networking is part of my employment contract. It's misuse which can adversely affect the nature and or reputation of said business via this medium is open to disciplinary action.

Most people I know are subject to this.
