My Cousin Produced Kirk Cameron's movie!

I remember my cousin telling me about how she and Kirk were discussing about making a movie together. I didn't think much of it, because this was a couple of years ago, and I thought the idea was a flop. Well, I saw a commercial for it during the previews of the Hunger Games. So I search IMDB to find that yes, she was the producer (well, one out of three- including Kirk) !!

Okay, so what is the snark against him? I honestly didn't even know he was that conservative until I joined freejinger. So jingerites, please fill me in, so I can talk to my cousin about him, knowing full well what kind of person he is. I want to hear her side too, since she knows him so well. Then I'll pass the word on.

Oh and do me a favor... Please don't put her full name on here in case somehow she finds this by google search or something. I'm the only dancer in the family

Edit: I just took out the IMDB link to the movie.

You've kind of identified her yourself, giving a link to her IMDB page - I'd remove the link/identifying details in your post if you want to protect her identity. The internet never forgets, so best not to 'out' fundie family and friends unless you are willing to deal with the consequences of being found out.

There's plenty about Cameron and his links to Ray Comfort's ministry both here and on Yuku.... and plenty on You Tube too, if you want to see him in action, so to speak. Just stick his name into the search function :P

Yea, I just didn't want to go through fluffy threads about bananas and gay references, wondering where the actual criticism is. This is me being extremely lazy. ;)

Tiny, welcome & it's pretty much that Kirk seems harsh and unyielding in his views. For me, anyway. I'm Christian too but Kirk's brand is way more about following rules and glorifying himself for having followed the rules, than it is about praising God for the gift of forgiveness in Christ.

Again, just my opinion.

You must be so proud of your cousin.

The banana thing is a good example of Kirk Cameron looking like a fool, though, in his defense I feel like I must point out that, technically speaking, the banana IS an excellent example of design. Specifically, it's the product of 10,000 years of cultivation and careful breeding by humans. Wild bananas have none of the wonderful features of the common bananas you may be familiar with. They're full of seeds and often very fuzzy. Blech. (Of course, there are many many many varieties of commerical banana out there, and they vary immensely. I bet Kirk Cameron didn't know that.)

On the OTHER hand, because they reproduce sexually instead of by cloning, like commercial bananas do, they're not heading for probable extinction in the way the Cavendish banana (the one you're familiar with) is, because they have more diversity. It's like the potato famine all over again, but with bananas, and hopefully a lot less famine. In fact, it's already happened once, back in the 1920s, which is why we eat the second-string Cavendish instead of the superior Gros Michel. Gros Michel DOES still exist, but not very many of them, and you basically have to be in the area to get one.

I say this every time that video comes up because I love the fact that his argument of design is not just inane, but it actually disproves young earth creationism in and of itself because we KNOW how long bananas have been farmed.

Wow. I'm speechless because I didn't know there was so much on bananas alone! But I love the fact that the history of bananas proves that the earth is more than 6,000 years old.

What I'm really curious is to see what my cousin's opinion of Kirk is. She's christian, but really down to earth, lives in L.A., super cool. I wonder if she senses any of his pride in himself, and thinks him vain. Or maybe it's just a show for the camera, and he's actually a "humble" person.

Is your cousin anti-gay because Kirk is pretty anti-gay. Isn't Kirk involved with the Vision Forum in some way? I just remember seeing a picture of him with Dougie and Papa Botkin. And didn't he do mean things like get a co-worker fired from Growing Pains because she wasn't Christian enough for him?

Yes, he did, and this was after throwing so many tantrums he drove the three producers to quit. Couldn't do anything that might possibly, in any way, shape, or form, indicate that his or any character was anything less than 100% squeaky clean.

The banana video is funny. But its original intention is not. Kirk is sitting next to Ray Comfort, an evangelical with whom Cameron started "The Way of The Master" and with whom he has produced many anti-evolution videos and publications (through their "TWOTM" publisher Living Waters Publications). Most of his anti-evolution arguments rely on a complete misunderstanding of the actual theory of evolution. His arguments encourage anti-intellectualism--not only has Kirk Cameron himself failed to learn enough about the theory of evolution to actually understand it, he encourages everyone else to simply accept God as the spontaneous generator of life 6,000 years ago and to not learn anything else about our origins or attempt to understand the actual theory of evolution. His arguments are along the lines of, "The theory of gravity says that everything stays on the Earth, but when I throw a ball in the air it leaves the ground. Therefore, the theory of gravity is wrong. Also believing in it will send you to hell. So join my religion."

TWOTM/LWP also produced the "180" anti-abortion video.

Also, he's homophobic.

Let me guess, she wore skirts above the knee and talked to men without a chaperone, so she was obviously a complete Jezebel.

She'd once posed nude in Playboy. So she did something actually pornographic, but honestly, how big a deal is it?

Woah, at first I thought you were talking about my cousin!

I don't know where my cousin stands on issues like homosexuality. This is something I would have to ask her. And she hasn't responded to my FB message. I'll keep you posted.

I remember hearing somewhere that Julie McCullough considered a lawsuit against ABC but backed out because she didn't think she would win.
