Mississippi's 'Personhood' Law Could Outlaw Birth Control

Don't forget fun activities like slut shaming and comparing girls who have had sex to 1) lollypops that have been licked or 2) tape that has lost its stickiness.

Also, girls are like roses, and having sex is like plucking off a petal! That was a from a real speaker that came to my class. It's one of those moments I wish I could go back in time and raise hell.

I read an account from a nurse who worked at a Catholic school. In every health class, they would do a demonstration where they would put a tablet of Alka-Seltzer in water, then put aspirin in water. The speaker said that when it came to wanting and enjoying sex, boys were like the Alka-Selzer and girls were like the aspirin. Without fail, the day after this presentation the nurse's office would be flooded with girls who complained, "Something is wrong with me! I'm more like the Alka-Seltzer!"

I know I am posting twice in a row, but I totally got the "tape losing its stickiness" speech when I was a pre-Purity movement teen virgin. The Purity Club girls were quite promiscuous in comparison to the girls who didn't make a big deal out of it.

No Woman Is A Slut.

So what do they say about boys who have had sex?

Has anyone here heard the car comparison when it comes to abstinence?

Boys who have sex are just "sowing some wild oats". Have you ever heard a woman say she won't marry a man who isn't a virgin? I did, and I cannot recommend it. I would guess a few of the fundie headships went to their marriage beds with a couple of notches already on the bed post. Like Meredith's Steven. I personally don't think he was, but that's my opinion.

The "car" comparison I missed. Do tell.

I gather it's not what I have said to my children about sex before marriage, which is "don't buy a car without taking it for a test drive", huh?

I saw it once in a newspaper a few years back. The person writing it was pretty much comparing people to cars saying when looking for a "car" you wouldn't want an old used one and that you should get a new car instead. It was pretty stupid comparison.

What I want is for every child to have a chance to live. I do not want women to go to jail.

No. You went every fertilized egg to have a chance to be born. You clearly do not give a shit about children living, given your views on welfare etc.

Men don't buy the car when they can get the milk for free? Oh wait, that's cow, not car.

I by no means mean to trivialize your situation. But you are asking me a tough questions and you want an answer so I will give you one. I believe it is God's place to decide when a a life should end, not man.

You know, I always thought my 'lifestyle choices' would send me to hell, not the fact I went on dialysis for a couple of year.

Naughty me !

Haha @ the mandatory organ donation thing. Its great what you can be a live donor for these days. Liver, lung, bone marrow, kidney, faecal matter... I'd be lying to say a tiny bit of me wouldn't be unhappy about by such mandatory acts of 'altruism'. But thats just me. Personally affected. I do support abolishing the deceased family's ability to overturn their desision to donate. I.E, if you made a conscious decision to donate and signed up to the ODR, your family could overturn your stated wishes for no good reason what so ever... but that all in such matters.

If I am to believe that every unborn child is sacred and has a purpose, then my opinion would have to be that all of the reasons you listed are a matter of convenience for the mother. This is not to say I have no sympathy for the mother, I just believe life is more important than social situation.

What about her life?

Okay, you are telling me you have never seen someone abusing welfare? When I see what some people are buying with their food stamps it makes me furious. How about basic food supplies, not junk food! You obviously don't know the people I know on Welfare who still have cable TV, spend half of it on lottery tickets, and play Xbox all the time.
I know, right? Rip the government provided services right out from under all those hardworking people who just can't catch a break to teach those greedy bastards a lesson.

Also, am I committing murder because I'm no longer taking the hormones I'd need to take in order to sustain my pregnancy because the pregnancy is not a viable one and I so very much want to have a child? Just want to know much I'm gonna go to hell for this. TIA

Dammit. Did she flounce?

Long time lurker first time poster

I just wanted to say I'm so glad I went to a high school that taught us everything about sex. Hell they gave away free condoms in the nurses office.

I'm also wondering about how abstinence only ed works? Is it pretty much "don't have sex" in every class?

It's "don't have sex" plus "if you are alone with a boy you WILL have sex", along with "Girls give sex to get love, boys give love to get sex", with a heaping of "condoms don't work" which of course comes sprinkled with "HIV is 300 times smaller than a sperm cell," and last but not least "porn is bad because you will molest your two-year-old daughter." But don't worry, for those who may be sensitive to that sort of thing, there is absolutely nothing said whatsoever about the outer female sexual organs. :D

At least, that's what it was like at my middle school. My high school had almost no sex ed, which was pretty much entirely "don't do it" for the last week or two of the PE class. The only real sex ed anyone had was the reproduction unit in AP Biology, and only about 30 students a year got that. Out of a school of 1200, where at least 20/600 girls in any given year get pregnant.

Fuck North Carolina and its bullshit abstinence-only policy, and fuck my county for actually enforcing it. Not all counties in this state go with the policy, thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster. But mine does, and boy does it suffer for it.

I think the whole country is abstinence only right now. My son has received zero sex ed, not even a goddamned health class. I had to take a full quarter of it my freshman year.

eta: I mean at school. Obviously I have educated him about these things.

I received my sex ed entirely online, thanks to Planned Parenthood, and early enough that I saw through the abstinence-only bullshit in seventh grade. seriously, when a 13 year old can see that you're full of shit... I had none in school until my senior year of high school in AP Bio.

Not every state is abstinence-only, just the Southern, backward ones like, well, North Carolina. Virginia actually has comprehensive sex ed. Which just pisses me off. I had to drive 30+ minutes to my high school, when there was a high school in Virginia about 15 minutes away. God I fucking hate my home county.

I am not in a Southern state; my stepchildren received abstinence only in California, and my son got no sex ed whatsoever in Washington.

I'm glad Virginia has their shit together. I thought Dubya outlawed all but abstinence only?

He didn't outlaw it, but gave a whole bunch of money to the abstinence-only schmucks.

I have no idea what California and Washington's policies are, but that's really shitty.

In addition to there being zero sex ed in my county, condoms were all tucked away out of sight, there are like 2 clinics in the whole county, and the nearest Planned Parenthood is an hour away.

I'm a little surprised that the teen pregnancy rate in my county is as low as it is... but the latest study I could find was from 2009; 2010 will undoubtedly be much higher, and 2011...

I think that birth control education and access should be considered a human right. I believe that kids should be educated and be given the opportunity to get free birth control as soon as they show an interest.

But that's just me. I don't want any disease or pregnancy in my kids. I don't really care if a girl is banging the entire football team as long as that is what *she* wants to do and she is protecting her own health.

From what I hear, sex ed is much better in Europe. It must be, because their teen pregnancy and abortion rates put us to shame.

I'm watching last night's Jon Stewart and he's going through the election results from Tuesday and made the observation that Mississippi's personhood initiative, should it have passed, would have turned IUD-using women into serial killers.
