I didn't post that comment. I used to post comments on articles in the past, but now I don't care to anymore. I do have fun reading some of the pro-Duggar comments that always pop up. I laugh at the people who think that the Duggars are perfect and nothing is wrong in their world. Some of the people who make pro Duggar comments aren't aware of Gothard or ATI. There are some comments on people.com which I think might have been made by FJers because Gothard/ATI are mentioned.

Sorry -- I posted something so similar to your post, that I thought yetanothermeg was asking me -- didn't even notice that she was asking you!

Well, this makes for another 2-hour- special and a 10th season. B-A-R-F.

Question. WHY is the American public so easily tricked by christianity? As in, all they go is great? If you don't believe me, check out youtube comments.

Secnond question. Why do all reporters ask Michelle how she does it and know one seems to catch up on the fact there are about 8 "parents" involved?

My husband, who is a Maternal fetal specialist, just got home from being on call. L&D is all a buzz about the #20. I love his comment-JimBoob better take her to the local funeral home to pick out her casket because that is where she is going to end up.

I'm imagining him mourning briefly (and, I'll grant, probably genuinely), then going out to find baby machine #2.

Or Michelle ending up not dead, but in a coma for years, putting even more responsibility on those poor J-slaves.

I'm genuinely curious as to what sort of odds he would give on her survival, and the survival of the child.

I hope she survives, otherwise the J'Slaves will be perpetual virgins.

God, imagine one or more disabled children and Michelle not being able to care for them, then the J'slaves having to take care of them. Then their last shot at freedom is gone, they will be caretakers forever.

Also WHY DO THEY NEVER MENTION THEY GET PAID BY TLC???

Note to self: GET OFF FJ. CLEAN. NOW.

Unbelievable.

I've never understood why there aren't more articles about the Duggars on mainstream news networks that talk about their wacky religious beliefs. I think a lot of Duggar supporters just think that they are an adorable big family and don't actually realize the extent to which their beliefs are ignorant and patriarchal. Maybe this new baby will be the impetus for some more hard-hitting articles and/or interviews.

Hi People I see your fabuloso new site!

Its nice!

Im utterly disgusted at Michelle Duggar...

Everything waxes and wanes and its time for the Bates' to "wax" and Michelle needs to accept this.

BTW Michael K from Dlisted is very handsome

Well, I guess their prayers have been answered. The show is safe for at least a couple more seasons.

Those poor kids. Josie is officially an afterthought, and now she'll never get any help for any special needs she has. Jordyn and Jennifer are 100% off the radar, and the J'slaves will never get to leave now.

Kelly Bates must be PISSED.

The chances of a child with Down's syndrome are significant. Wonder how that would be handled?

These two disgust me.

Yup Kelly is probably pissed right now. She will probably blog about this and say that she is happy, but we all know she isn't.

The Duggars probably wouldn't handle a child with DS well. They would probably ignore some of the advice doctors and therapists tell them.

Wow  I have to admit, I wasn't actually expecting that to be the announcement. I thought it would be an engagement for one or both of the twins. Granted, that's not really worth a morning show appearance, but neither was finding out the sex of J&A's baby and they still had one.

I don't think there will be as much backlash as there should be. Some people will continue to worship the Duggars' wonderful lifestyle despite all evidence to the contrary. I just hope for the sake of the baby and the other j'slaves that this pregnancy ends more successfully than Josie's. It's great that Boob and J'chelle have recovered so well from Josie's trauma, but what about the poor kid? No child should have to suffer the kind of pain that she's already been through in her young life, nevermind the potential problems that might still arise. Why would you risk doing that to another child?

From the today show article:

The kids thought family patriarch Jim Bob was joking when he broke the news that they would have a new brother or sister, Michelle said. They lined the family up on the staircase for a photo, she recalled, and Jim Bob said, "Smile -- Mom's going to have another baby!"

"Their mouths dropped," Michelle said, laughing at the memory. "They all looked at me to see if he was joking."

Oh, hahaha, Michelle, that's so funny  I can tell your indentured servants are really looking forward to the next blessing. And the only child specifically quoted as being in any way excited about the pregnancy is Jackson, who's 7. I'm sure the others are remembering all the fear and sadness about potentially losing their mother and baby sister, and all the stress of having to uproot the family to another town for months on end while dealing with Josie in the NICU.

Ugh, I need to stop thinking about this. It's just making me go into rage mode.

That's part of what frustrates me. I don't watch the show, but have seen some early episodes and read enough descriptions to get the impression that they don't talk openly about the scarier parts of their beliefs (is that true, those who watch?).

People seem to have the idea that they are just a nice Christian family who want lots of children because they love them so.

They really have a John/prostitute relationship with TLC don't they?

Speaking of Johns and prostitutes, I'm thinking of taking up a collection for JD...

I saw a comment "Remember people, it's the single moms on welfare we don't want having kids...not these folks"

to which I went off about them only affording this because TLC pays them to keep having kids and that its selfish considering Josie...

But what do you expect for southern right wing christian nut jobs?

In my state, preemies automatically get medical aid. I believe I heard somewhere that Arkansas has a similar law. There is no way that a family can absorb the millions of dollars that it takes to help a baby like Josie. Most insurance companies have upper limits that would be blown past on the first day of life.

Josie Duggar has already cost the taxpayers more than a welfare mom of 5 children would cost over the children's lifetime. That is just.one.child. I think she deserves the help, as does the hypothetical mother of 5. But the argument just does not apply here.

The Duggars have various types of fans. They fundie and fundie lite fans who are well aware of all of the Duggars' beliefs. Some of their fundie lite fans probably disagree with them in some ways, but they still like the Duggars. Then they have some fans who are mainstream Christians who really don't know about Gothard, ATI, VF or fundie organizations etc. I have also encountered some non-Christians who think the Duggars are an adorable wholesome family.

The Duggars have lost fans in the past few years. There have been people who initially liked the Duggars from the documentaries or when the series first started but they started researching the QF movement and ended up finding NLQ, FJ and a couple of other sites and they saw that the dark side of the Duggars' beliefs.

I doubt mainstream TV journalists will ever do a hard hitting article on the Duggars' affiliations with Gothard and ATI. But I can see maybe salon.com or a similar site doing a hard hitting article on the Duggars.

Oy. I am now convinced that "God closes the womb" = "mother dies from complications." Because even if He hired a skywriter these people would not get it.

Someone who had 20 dogs or cats would be a hoarder. Why not someone with 20 kids?

I saw "The Duggars" trending on Twitter this morning and immediately thought, "Oh god, she's having another kid isn't she?" I watched maybe a minute of the interview before I got pissed and closed it. She sounded doped to the gills. It didn't even look like she was very happy about it, or she just knew that they're going to get a lot of backlash.

The Duggars have stated that they did not take public funds for Josie's care. For the sake of J'20 and any future children, I hope the TLC funds hold out.

This. Children who need medical care automatically receive CHIP funds. I know JB pays for private insurance, but I can only imagine the premiums on a family that large, with that many children and self-employment as a source of income. Nearly the only way to make it in any way affordable is to accept high deductibles and/or low annual or lifetime limits. A single day's stay in an ICU can easily cost thousands, and that doesn't even include the transport, surgeries, consultations, etc. Josie does deserve that care, as does any other child in the same situation, but you can't possibly argue that the $300/month in SNAP benefits that the hypothetical single mother had to fight for is comparable in any way.

*edited to correct facts based on the Duggars' book

Just watched the video on the People article.

I have a friend from grad school who was in remission for several years before her cancer came back this summer. She just announced this weekend that she is terminal. The cancer has metastasized too far and there is nothing more that can be done. Out of all the things that she is worried about, she is heartsick over the fact that she will leave her three-year-old son motherless. She wants to keep her quality of life high enough so that she can spend her remaining months having happy times with her husband and son. Her sister is organizing a project to put together a book of pictures and stories about her that her son can keep.

And here comes Michelle saying that she's willing to die for a child that isn't here yet. She's not just accepting of the possibility--she seems positively giddy about it. She has absolutely no regard for the 19 children who could be left motherless because of her constant risking of her own life.

Sanctitiy of life MY ASS.

I expected it to be one of the J-Slaves or at least JD getting engaged. Not this. Not after Josie.

I've read somewhere that the average North-American consumes as much energy as 13 Chinese or 370 Ethiopians. So the Duggars now equal 286 Chinese people or 8140 Ethiopians.

They say they are making that many babies in the name of God, but there really is a God who created our planet, he wouldn't be happy at what this family is doing to Earth's ressources.

Anyone who does takes a risk of appearing "anti-family" since discussion has a built in emotional/cultural blackmail factor.

Playing devil's advocate here for a minute, but it us possible that when JBob and Michelle found out that they were expecting again, there first though was "this us really scary and not what we would want, but we will trust in God."

They're running into the logical conclusion of their belief system, and that can be a very scary thing. Of course, I'd respect them more if they addressed those internal struggles, but that would "ruin" the image of a perfectly faithful family...

I'm sure the Duggars make sure all people interviewing them are not allowed to ask anything about ATI/Gothard that would put them in a bad light. I wish AC would take up Gothard and his connection to the Duggars when he gets done with the evil Pearls.

I didn't know about that. I agree emmie, Josie does deserve help, but so do others.

I think many Duggar fans probably don't know about those laws.

I get annoyed with the Duggar defenders who always have to praise the Duggars for not being on government assistance and then they bash mothers on welfare. Welfare does get taken advantage by some. The women I have known who are or have been on welfare only used it because they had to and they didn't have any alternatives. Some of the women I knew got off welfare and are supporting their children on their own.
