I posted an article about it on FB, and I got two responses making fun of/decrying the Duggars for having #20 when they can't even devote proper time to the ones they already have by assigning them right off to an older siblings. Then I got a friend who said, "How Exciting! Congrats!"

I'm replying to my sane friends while simultaneously trying to point out WHY I don't think the Duggars should be having another kid. (special needs, higher risk of complications, lousy parenting...)

Seriously, someone please give Jchelle a secret hysterectomy after her C-section in April...

And would it be too crass to wonder aloud about whether this one will end in a miscarriage/be a child with Downs syndrome?

Of course it won't be, and they'll cry from the rooftops that its "proof" of their G-dliness or some shit like that.

I actually have to object here - as someone who has known women whose uteri were forcibly taken (in once instance, a doctor lying to her about cancer because he didn't agree with her reproductive choices), I cannot think of any more terrible thing to do to anyone. While I forcefully disagree with the reproductive choices the Duggars have made/are making, yet grateful for my own reproductive freedom to make the opposite life choices, I would never advocate forcible sterilization of anyone.

I can see your point. I wasn't meaning it seriously because as much as I object to another kid being subjected to their family, taking a choice away isn't right, same as I wouldn't want my chocie taken away for using BC. I just kind of wish that her uterus would give up (after the child is born healthy hopefully) so there wouldn't be anymore children.

I also hope for a courtship for the boys (they unlike Josh seem like they would leave the movement if they got out of the house) and for the girls to run away (or secretly take the SAT/ACT and do so well they get a full ride to some college far away from Arkansas/their parents)

Or maybe simply use "mother," since at this point Juterus is just a surrogate for all of her daughters. Who will be perpetual virgins at this point. God help Jana. And Josie. This is fucking insane. If it weren't for the fact that the oldest 4 girls do all the work, and Josie being a micropreemie who still needs special care, I wouldn't particularly mind. Those poor kids. Josie is officially an afterthought, and now she'll never get any help for any special needs she has. Jordyn and Jennifer are 100% off the radar, and the J'slaves will never get to leave now.

The chances of a child with Down's syndrome are significant. Wonder how that would be handled?

My only problem with Michelle Duggar and her fertility is that she appears to let her oldest girls raise the children instead of being a hands on mother. I really don't care if a family has none, one, or as many children as they wish as long as they aren't using tax payer money to do so and expecting to get a bigger government check with each child. I do wonder if a very small part of Michelle's brain is thinking, "Yeah, take that Kelly Bates."

Part of me can't help wondering if the Duggars would get this much support if they weren't good little white Christians - if they were black or Hispanic.

They may not get government assistance, but they're getting the TLC assistance - I'm sure they could manage to get by without it, somehow, but one) they've gotten used to it and two) it's going to suck for the kids who've gotten used to it.

Cynical me believes she got pregnant because they wanted to keep the money coming in from TLC, and that makes me ill. It's almost, to my mind at least, like they are not only prostituting themselves out for money, but their children as well. The non cynical me got really angry and sad reading about her announcement because she is risking her life when she already has so many children! One commentator on Dlisted wrote that she really hoped Michelle wasn't going to die with her legs in the air trying to give birth to another child, and I agree. They have 19 kids, other parents aren't so lucky and would be beyond thrilled with being able to have just one child (myself included).
