(CW: CSA) Josh & Anna 41: Will the Rebers Continue their B&B for Child Predators After the Trial?

At this point, what could he have to say but „it wasn’t me, I don’t know how it got there, I’ve never even seen that computer in my life.“ - maybe „I was searching  for Hilary’s emails on the darknet“?

Sarcasm aside, I’m honestly wondering what Smuggar might think would be a good defense at this point…

OMG the expressions on James and Jason's faces!  The are clearly upset over what they've heard today.😢

I think that for all of the siblings in the court room it had to be shocking to her Bobye's testimony.  She was a long time family friend that I'm sure they all knew and her version of what happened contains so much more detail than what they heard from their parents watered down version.

It’s a random selection of siblings turning up. I can see why the daughters may want to listen if they are going to be talked about (but it must be horrible) but Jason and James? Show support for their brother without behaving like an idiot like Justin? Mrs Spivey must have been thrilled to have her favourite Duggar boys there.

I honestly thing they were there because They believed Jill might have been testifying.  Which may also be why Jessa attended and then left after the prosecution rested. She may also have judged wanted to hear Bobye’s testimony herself.

He must have been thrilled to go work at the car lot. Really.

Small office, PC, very few other people around, built in excuse to "work" late...

Perfect setup for him!

What I don’t understand is why anyone, even people living by whackadoodle ideas like the Duggars, would think that would be an optimal work environment. Surely the Ashley Madison thing revealed he could be sneaky online and get around thing like Covenant Eyes. That’s like putting a sober alcoholic to work alone in a booze stockroom.

Is that Laura DeMasie behind Jason and James?

I had the same thought when I saw the photos. But I'm not 100% sure.

James seems to still be close to his sister-mom Jill; he brought the fire truck for Sam's birthday and was the only Duggar sibling photographed at Derrick's law school graduation. So hopefully he was there to support her in case she testified today, and not under pressure from JB to show support for Josh.

I'm certain the defense lawyers counseled taking the plea deal but it was useless in the face of Duggar arrogance. I'm just as certain that Josh probably does want to testify, that he probably thinks he can explain his way out of this. This trial is his ego-fest, I'm actually gonna be surprised if he does not testify. It would be to his detriment, obviously to us & to his lawyers. But it would be consistent with how he presents.

The fact that they came today on the day when the molestation was going to come through and haven't (except Derrick, Austin and Joy) been there everyday makes me think they're there for the sisters and not for Josh.  To hear for themselves what Bobeye's testimony (+/- support Jill if she took the stand).  Or they were there for Jed, if they thought he was on the stand today.

If they wanted to be there for Josh, then they would be there everyday supporting him.

Can someone ELI5 the flash drive stuff with the Mac?  From what I can tell no CSAM was found on the Mac and the flash drive wasn't tied to the HP so what is the point they're trying to make?

Sorry, I am trying to follow but my work keeps needing me for non-Duggar related things.

I think his defence will have done an excellent job to keep him off the stand tbh. If they manage it.

What else is he going to do? No qualifications or trade skills, selling cars is all he knows. I wouldn’t put it past JB to think if he left him to his own devices in a small car lot then yes, he’d probably watch porn, but it would be away from the house and his family and nobody would need to know. I doubt JB envisaged how it would turn out.

I wonder how they can tell [Jessa] is smiling if they are all wearing masks in the court room.

I think body language would probably indicate that... also, when many people smile or laugh, it is evident in their eyes, so maybe that.

I cannot begin to imagine what in the world Josh could say to Joy at that moment after Bobbye's testimony - or how Austin refrained from beating the shit out of him. The only appropriate thing would be "Joy, I'm so sorry," yet I seriously doubt he would go that route.

I hope not.  I've been in IT for a long time and my fellows in tech I'm sure can back me up....some people have a mental block when it comes to computer stuff like some do with math.  They assume they won't understand so they just nod as they listen to what sounds like the adults in the old Peanuts comics.  Whaaaah wahhhhh wahhhh.

I've had a lot of smart end users so baffled by technology if I told them I needed to get my cable tester to clear out the swishing packets and backend exchange cache in order to remap their network drives and they'd nod in agreement, thank me, and make some comment about how complicated this all is.

They believe utter nonsense because they pre-emptively think they won't understand so they defer to the person who seems to know what they're talking about.  The prosecution has to break this down in ELI5 language to show how it's nonsense.

I am a person that has a hard time with tech and my husband has been in IT for decades. Sometimes he will be talking about something for work and my brain fails. But if i was a juror on this trial I would work my butt off trying to understand the technical aspect.

If he had sorry in it, it would have been more like I am so sorry you had to hear the full extent of all the disgusting things I did and were minimised by those around you and I am even more sorry I got caught"

The defense strategy appears to be that thing that I've come to associate with Steve Bannon: flood the zone with shit. Drown out the stuff one wants obscured with a massive volume of miscellaneous information, overwhelming the capacity to process. Disinformation. It's all they've got.

Not persuaded it'll work.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Derek and Austin wouldn't mind getting their hands on the perv. Derek has kept his look rather neutral, as a good lawyer type should, but Austin has looked like he could chew iron and spit nails.

I have a theory about Jill and Jed. I am assuming now Jill-maybe Jed-has been spared the stand. I wonder if there has been some kind of deal here, where the defence did not overly cross examine Bobye in exchange for Jill not being called. What do you think?

It's really hard to read people we don't know, no matter how long they've been on our tvs.  It's even harder to read people who are from insular abusive social environments where their reactions may be completely foreign to mainstream people.  Even harder when it's about something traumatic where people can react in really surprising ways.

My mom spent her life pretending everything was fine when it wasn't, the more emotionally charged a situation especially triggering her abuse the more superficial and chatty and positively sparkly she got.

I'm not saying that's Jessa's deal, I'm saying none of us know these people and for me I'm giving victims the benefit of the doubt unless and until they prove otherwise.

This. 100 percent. I laugh nervously when talking about my trauma and have to consciously notice and stop myself from doing it. It’s annoying as anything, and it took quite a lot of therapy to even notice when I do it. I have zero judgment for how any of the survivors respond. It’s hard enough even without them being reality TV people who’ve had to act.

Yeah, there is no appropriate reason to talk to her in my opinion. It’s either for the cameras or to make himself feel better/get reassurance from her that he’s forgiven still or whatever.

Part of me wishes they had big dark sunglasses to put on and a mask. That way we couldn’t actually see any expression on their faces. But I’m a very private person and that’s where my feelings are coming from.

This is it, I think. Jim Bob and Michelle didn't care what Josh did at the car lot as long as it didn't effect the family brand. Josh's pretend job gets him out of the house and if he sells a few cars, great!

I agree, but while I don't think JB is outraged at the nature of the porn I think he's furious that Josh took it that far so it ended in a public trial.

It was absolutely a pretend job, real used car salesmen hustle because if they don't sell they don't get paid.

How many boys are left to be married off ?? I’m wondering how the trial will effect their courtship opportunities if seen at the courthouse supporting Josh. As a woman, that would be an automatic NO from me
