Boy am I glad I wasn’t a Waltons fan. I was a Little House on the Prairie fan. That was more my taste. Even as a kid, I was a huge stickler for correct timelines. All of those changes in the Waltons reunions would have made me crazy.

Same here. Although I did kind of freak out when Harriet Olsen mentioned making Waldorf Salad... because it would have been nearly 2 decades before said salad was created.

I have my issues with LHOTP. That’s how I know I would be annoyed by the Waltons. I was annoyed that Walnut Grove, a teeny tiny town in the middle of nowhere, seemed to be able to get phones. I know phones were around at that time, but I doubt a tiny town like that could get access to phone lines.

My default movie used to be Empire Records, but I haven't watched it for ages since it isn't on any of my streaming services and I'm too lazy to dig out DVDs.
Current defaults: Shawshank Redemption, Pitch Perfect, Bridesmaids, Zodiac.

I purchased Empire Records on Amazon at one point after the last dvd device went kerflooey. Absolutely quality 90s fare!

I'm equally besotted with Zodiac.

Pitch Perfect and Shawshank are pretty good too.

I ❤️ Beetlejuice.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds Zodiac weirdly soothing.

Does anyone else have "default" movies? Like, I don't know what I want to watch, so I'll throw this on. I have a few of those, and a few "if it's on, I watch it" movies.

One of those "if it's on, I'm watching it" movies for me and my sisters is Romancing the Stone. Has been for decades!

Empire Records

Armageddon

August Rush

Cats Don't Dance

Enchanted

*I didn't realize until just now two of my "must see" movies have Liv Tyler.

Recently found out that a friend's daughter's husband was arrested on child porn charges.  FBI came in - took all their electronics, arrested him in front of the kids ages 7 and 4.  It's been a few weeks, he's still sitting in jail and she's already filed for divorce and full custody.  Differences in people's lives and how they react.

I am so sorry she's going through that, but thank God her immediate reaction was to circle the wagons around her kids.

Breakfast Club

Oooh, love the Breakfast Club. And Pretty in Pink.

Everyone's got such good taste in movies! I usually think my taste in movies is bad (I mean, I liked Speed 2 and Armageddon and dislike romantic comedies for the most part) but apparently it's not that terrible.

Just remembered another movie I love - Drop Dead Fred!

One of my favorite movies is Moonstruck.  Every actor (except Nicholas Cage) is perfect.  Cage is just okay, but the pure enjoyment I get from watching everyone else more than makes up for him.

"Love don't make things nice, Love roons everything!"

default movies? I share a lot with you all. Goonies, Shawshank, Dirty Dancing, Back to the Future, Princess Bride, Overboard, ("buh, buh, buh") You've Got Mail, Breakfast Club, the Birdcage, so many more...

My #1 default movie is Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I have it on every device I own, so if I'm ever stuck somewhere and bored, I can watch it. It's my perfect movie!

Am I the only one with no attention span for movies?  Any youtube video over 20 minutes I know I'll have to play twice because I'll have been doing eight other things while watching it.

I'm exactly the same! I was reading everyone's default movie lists and thinking about how I absolutely don't have any default movies because who can sit and watch a whole movie? ?

Having said that, I do adore The Princess Bride and enjoyed seeing it on several lists above. I don't think there has ever been a time when I've just thought 'oh I don't know what to watch, I'll put a film on', though.

Default thing to go to on the laptop though? Freejinger. ?

I usually "watch" movies in the background. That's why I like the really dumb ones...the plot is so simple I don't really have to pay attention. Like now, I'm watching last night's episode of Manifest, drinking my coffee and goofing around online. I don't go to theaters because of my short attention span.

That's what default movies are for! You've seen them, you know them (my sisters and I can pretty much quote the entire Princess Bride), you don't have to pay attention to them, but they are something pleasant and familiar to have on in the background while you do whatever. Like clean house, assemble Ikea furniture, organize things, do crafty things, put up holiday decorations, or whatever. My sister's kitchen is open to her family room, so she'll have something on TV while cooking or cleaning, and she has a smaller TV up in her craft room where she'll put on a default movie or run a bunch of crafty youtube videos while she's making whatever she's making.

Even if I'm paying attention to a movie I'm knitting or drawing at the same time, or walking on the treadmill or something. I watch more youtube than anything these days, but I still have my hands occupied doing something.

I think lots of people do this with podcasts, maybe? But I really need something visual, even if I'm not actively looking at it much of the time. Sometimes I'll play music through the whole house when cleaning, but if I'm going to be only in the living room I'll pop in one of my default movies.
