Ruby’s parents appear to still be on their Morman missionary /gap year trip. I damn well hope they jump straight onto the next available plane and sort this mess. They must have had an inkling of Ruby’ behaviour.

In this case, as long as the family was on YouTube there was some sort of indication as to what was going on in the home. However, when Ruby shut everything down and went dark except for the connections videos. People stop saying the children. And it's at that point that things probably got dangerous for these kids. More so than they were to begin with.

I’m seeing an unsubstantiated report from someone in St. George on TikTok. (take that as you will) that Kevin allegedly was terminated by BYU and maybe his reviews are going viral somewhere???

Dad challenge podcast is covering this (and admittedly he usually annoys me).

um the live (I’m watching delay) from right now indicates via law enforcement radio recording that there is a panic room under the garage at Jodi’s house.

Absolutely horrifying.

(oh snap, and then it goes to hey the mom just showed up)

Mormons are preppers. So although the panic room is weird, it’s not totally shocking. It could be a bomb shelter and panic room.

I know, but my mind immediately went to all of the ugly possibilities that room could be used for when you’re dealing with somebody like Jodi.

Definitely. I bet plenty of Mormons have bomb shelters or panic rooms and it would be so easy to keep a kid locked up in one. In other places in the US, people would be like, “who do you have a bomb shelter?” But it’s probably more common in Utah and it wouldn’t send up red flags.

I can think of a vlogging family that built a brand new house that has what probably in the deign was a panic room.  But this family uses it for their Merch Room.  It’s under one of their garages with stairs from the garage straight into it.  And until this evening I didn’t think twice about that.

I don’t think panic rooms or bomb shelters are common at all within Mormon culture. Most of the them are too busy with life to prep. Some extreme people do, sure, just like with any population there are the more concerned/paranoid ones. Storage rooms would be more common, like the ones in garages with pass through doors for more easily storing bulk shopping from the car. Preparation against potential home invaders would also be fairly common. I swear conservatives salivate over the thought of what they’d do if someone broke into their home. Sometimes that might include a panic room for their mom who lives alone or something.

Considering what we know about Hildebrandt and the Frankes, I would definitely label them as on the extreme paranoia end of crazy within Mormon culture. I see the similarities to the Turpins but I actually see Lori Vallow in them too. I’m so glad the kids got out when they did. The videos I’ve watched of Ruby tell me that she was not living in reality, and we’ve seen where that path leads.

The term I’ve seen in most of the Utah homes on YouTube I’ve seen is cold storage.  Which is entirely different from panic room.  It’s where they store both holiday decorations and their church directed long term food supplies.

April once mentioned she grew up in the FLDS cult, i wish she talked more about that. That would be interesting for once and not their constant clickbait videos about their kids and exchange students.

In their favor i have to say that they do have multiple exchange students at the home each year so i dont think its possible there is abuse going on with nobody raising the alarm. A lot of the exchange students are from my country and i have even looked at their social media once they were out of the house and they only had nice things to say about them.

No!  Although I do know 5hey also have a new house.  (As do the Shumways). Nope, I’m talking This is How We Bingham.  They moved in back in November and broke ground a couple of years ago.

The Orgills fall into the making money if if their children’s illnesses and medical issues category of toxic vlogging.  EB has arthritis.  Zade and Ambree have scoliosis.  And indeed, they have exchange students (one recently moved in for the school year).  But I see that as a different weird level of profiting off of children.

Ruby had a cheek making Chad sleep in the family room not a bedroom of the the new house bought off the proceeds of Chads many embarrassing on camera moments that he had no choice about. He was a growing boy who required a comfortable mattress to support his growing spine. If he has back problems in the future I hope he sues the pants off his parents to cover any medical costs incurred.  There are plenty of other sensible. ways to punish him for joking with his wee bother. Ruby is unnatural, spiteful and a narcissistic ( imo).

I'm getting a mash up of Jennifer and Sarah Hart and the Turpin parents.  Most are familiar with the horror the Turpins visited on their chilren.

Jennifer and Sarah Hart were married couple  who adopted a total of six children from two black families and became more abusive (food deprivation, social isolation, emotional abuse)  over time.  When CPS started investigating, Jennifer and Sarah loaded up all the kids, headed south and at a pull out on the California coast, drove the whole family over a cliff into the ocean.  Everyone died.

I'm glad these children were rescued before they died of malnutrition/abuse.

I'm not getting a sense that these kids were homeschooled, but it has been summer vacation, so possibly the abuse escalated dramatically over the summer.  Another thing -- this family is Mormon.  In one family photo one of the daughters is clearly wearing a Mormon garment.  Were they part of a Mormon community?  There are numerous family who said they tried to alert police and CPS, but did any of them try to address the issues through the local Bishop?   Not that that would help anything, the Church is not required to report abuse and usually doesn't, BUT I'm curious if anyone tried that route.

BBC Canada: Ruby Franke: '8 Passengers' parenting mum arrested on child abuse suspicion

"...Police say Ms Franke's 12-year-old son climbed out of the window and ran to a neighbour's house to ask for food and water.

"The calling party [the neighbour] stated the juvenile appeared to be emaciated and malnourished, with open wounds and duct tape around the extremities," according to a statement from the Santa-Clara Ivins Public Safety Department.

"Upon arrival, law enforcement observed the wounds and the malnourishment of [the boy] to be severe," the statement said.

The boy had to be taken to the hospital "due to his deep lacerations from being tied up with rope and from his malnourishment..."

...On Friday, Washington County officials in Utah formally charged Ms Franke and Ms Hildebrandt.

The charges stem from the alleged abuse of two children in three different ways: physical abuse, malnutrition and severe emotional harm..."

I figured it was the two youngest who were probably the children who were abused with wounds and malnourished. The two teen girls might be old enough to have figured out how to stay away from their mother. I’m not victim blaming the younger kids. Just that they can become scapegoats pretty easy since they are younger and more impulsive due to age. Once Chad left, she needed another scapegoat. And it wouldn’t surprise me if the youngest two were getting a lot of the abuse.

@howl, they were Mormon.  However all the ConeXtions stuff, from what I understand (mostly from McKay and Jordan) would have put them in conflict with the LDS church (and could be why Kevin was asked to leave/removed from BYU).

I don’t know which picture or which daught you’re referring to, but it was probably the oldest Shari.

I just now heard of this sudden development in this case, from Kiki Chanel , a Youtuber who primarily makes anti-MLM content.  I see though that others here have not surprisingly beaten me to the punch, 🙂 Anyway, here is a link , if anyone wants to watch it.

Spoiler

None of their kids have gone on a mission or gotten married, so they haven't been through the temple yet and don't wear garments.

Shari went through something temple related in the last year or so, but hasn’t gone on a mission.

FYI, Mormon Stories (podcast/YouTube) has a 3.5 hour episode (it was live last night) on 8 passengers/connextions/moms of truth with Jordan and McKay and therapist Dr. Julie Hanks joins in later. The show notes do have time stamps and what clip/subject is when)

FYI, confirmed via Shari’s Instagram, she “took the next step after baptism” back in May of this year. She didn’t elaborate much.  I can possibly mentally fill in the blanks from Jordan and McKay’s videos on the temple ceremonies and what goes on.

Thanks for the clarification.  Maybe some type of modesty panel, then? I'll root around to try to find the photo.

A little gem about Jodi Hildebrandt, Franke's "partner" in ConneXions.  She is a piece of work and this is just the tip of the iceberg.  From the Salt Lake Tribune, 2012:

Porn therapist disciplined for telling church, BYU about man     Ethics • Counselor on "porn addiction," who also talked to BYU, violated state law.

The man in this lawsuit indicated that he thought Hildebrandt was extorting him to continue with more incredibly expensive counseling sessions.

I just heard from another source that this is not listed on her license. Which is so fucked up to me. In my opinion, this should be listed on her license for possible new patients to access.
