I've been wondering this for a while, particularly since the first round of Duggar love kind of diminished.... but WHY does every pregnancy still get an announcement on People? It's a pregnancy, not the second coming, and it's the pregnancy of a VERY MINOR pseudo celebrity, a member of a cult family who is famous only for pregnancy. I mean... they've done it nearly a dozen times already. Does the world need to know again?

Probably because it gets enough clicks to justify the very minimal effort it takes People to post it.

America doesn't have a royal family, so we make do with religious loonies. Because what's more American than aggressively messianic Protestant sects?

My dress dilemma:  I love wearing dresses and skirts, but I don't have shoes to wear with them.  I have really hurty feet and have the hardest time wearing almost any kind of shoes.  I wear nice sneaker-type comfort shoes (kind of like the picture below) almost all the time.  If I wear a dress, I can tolerate low comfort-style heels for a few hours, but not all day.

Spoiler

Anything else make my feet hurt so much I can't make it through the day. I can't wear those sneakers with a dress.

^^ What nice-looking shoes those are! (not being sarcastic... I really like them.) What make/model are those, if you don't mind.

@Bobology Those are Dansko--from the Walking Company.  They are the Helen model.  The Walking Company was very helpful in helping me pick out my pair (mine aren't Helens---something close that looked like them, so I posted that pic instead.)

@Satan'sFortress Thank you! Due to a bad surgery and now honking mammy-whammers of custom orthotics, for 9 years I have worn only Brooks Adrenaline's (mens, because they offer more support) and am on the lookout to try something new. I'm going to check these out.

People print mag publishes Every. Single. Week. And online content has to be constantly added to to keep up hits and ad clicks. These articles about the Duggars are so easy to write, they're basically a mad-lib. You can only speculate about Jen Aniston's motherhood thoughts and status every other week. Something has to go on the off times!

Would a cute pair of hiking boots like these provide enough support? I think a good pair of quality boots like this is pretty cute, plus they're great for my feet when I'm on them for longer periods of time. (Not quite how mine look, but the same general concept).

Also, I do tend to do a decent amount of hiking, camping, etc. and they're great for that too :)

Satan’sFortress, recently I discovered that the Walking Company has its own brand, Abeo. I now need to wear an orthotic in my shoes, and they offer shoes with embedded orthotics or shoes that accommodate separate orthotics. They sell a variety of orthotics, too. You can find them in some shoe stores or online. They are well-made and consistent in size. This is helpful for me because I live several hour’s drive from any shoe store, and it gets expensive to return ill-fitting shoes. Having orthotics in my shoes makes walking far more comfortable for me. No matter what brand you choose, a maryjane shoe can be comfortable like tennis shoes but look much nicer with skirts and dresses. This is a photo of my Abeo Mary Janes. I love them! My heart was broken to discover I could no longer wear ballet flats, but I was so happy to find these. I’ve worn them to some professional events where I had to do lots of walking. Super comfortable. 09b8f0dad1dcec9fc1e0e22160fbb41e.jpg

That is literally the only reason these people are famous. Pregnancy is their bread and butter.

I pretty much wear dresses or skirts everyday too. Here it is warm all year so I tend to wear birkenstocks most of the time, I have 5 different pairs I rotate through. When we are traveling somewhere I cold I have 2 pairs of clarks boots I usually wear with either leggings or tights. One pair is a slouchy ankle boot the other is more of a biker boot. My 15 year old approved them so they must not be too bad.

edited to add, I also have a couple of pairs of cheap flats that I like, I am pretty sure I just picked them up at Target or Payless a few years ago. They are usually good if I don't have to do too much walking. A good pair of flats is probably my next shoe purchase, once I get somewhere I need to wear shoes instead of sandals.

Exactly! The first Europeans didn’t come here for religious freedom, but for the freedom to be religious zealots! This has always been what America is all about!!!

@Satan'sFortress, the hiking boots @BachelorToTheRapture posted would work well under a dress, imo. I wear skirts and dresses a lot, and I almost never wear heels under them. I have orthopedic soles for in my shoes and they usually don't fit in heels. I also don't have a large budget for shoes, so buying heels my soles would fit in isn't really an option. So I usually wear sneaker-like shoes under skirts and dresses, and I personally don't think it looks weird or anything.
If your budget is bigger, I know that Wolky's have nicer looking sneaker-like shoes too, and other nice-looking shoes that provide good support for your feet. My mom has a pair of that brand which she wears under skirts to work. Ecco also has nice-looking shoes that provide good support.

My ride or die go to for comfy shoes is the Alegria brand. Their insoles are super supportive and conform really well as you break them in (which doesn’t take long), and I swear, they’re even more comfortable than good sneakers. They’re well made, have replaceable insoles, and come in a ton of colors and patterns. Plus, they make sandals, Mary Janes, boots, loafers, oxfords, clogs, and sneakers, so you have a lot of options for different types of outfits. If I could only wear one pair of shoes for the rest of my life, it would be a pair of black Alegria Mary Janes.

The first Europeans (Spanish colonists) came here to make money. Same for the first few waves of English colonists (Roanoke Island and Jamestown, respectively). Europeans had been colonizing the east coast of what would become the US for nearly a century beforehand the Puritans arrived. The Puritans has business plans to go with Thierry religious zealotry as well. The US has always been about money.

The US was founded by a lot of different people for a lot of different reasons. It would be accurate to say that the US was founded by people fleeing religious fundamentalism, by people trying to establish religious fundamentalism, by people trying to make money, by people being bought and sold and used as slave labour, by people who despised Christianity and wanted a nation based on humanist principles, by people seeking refuge from political persecution, by innocent people simply caught in the crossfire of all these competing goals... None of these are mutually exclusive things. Without any of these groups, the US would not be what it is today.

Not everyone on the Mayflower was a Puritan.  My ancestors were what the Puritans called “strangers” as they came for business, not religious, reasons.

It always comes down to money.

If anyone was wondering, the Duggars’ response to the abortion bill in New York is both uninformed and eye roll-inducingly predictable:

I'm going to lose my damn mind. I'd punch a Duggar right now if I saw one. How's that for tragic.

I'm a New Yorker and I've read the actual bill. There are two things happening here. 1) People simply don't understand what it's saying. Nobody is walking into a clinic or a hospital at 39 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby and being like "okay I'd like an abortion now." 2) The law has already had legislation for medically  needed abortions, this law simply included legislation that would protect Roe vs. Wade were the federal government try and overturn abortion regulation at the state level. Alright I'm done now.....

I'm surprised they haven't commented on the Iowa courts stopping the stupid, fetal heart beat bill, that our nit wit Gov and (Steve King loving GOP party) ram rodded through the state legislature last year.

It would be great for them to link to the actual bill or something. If they are going to post against what they think it is stating, perhaps they should link to the actual info so people can read for themselves. Because it's pretty fucking disgusting to state that now people can just choose to murder babies right before birth without giving any of the relevant information. Actually, it is just straight up lying.

Consider a woman living in NY who is pregnant and receives devastating news in the 3rd trimester that her unborn baby is not viable anymore and will suffer terribly once outside the womb. If she chooses to end to suffering for the child (certainly not for herself!) she will have to have enough money and time to fly across the country, stay in hotels, go to one of the few bullet proof clinics that will give the shot that stops the heart (for about $10 000) then fly back home (still carrying child) go back to home hospital and doctors and proceed to deliver which will not be a smooth or easy process.

If she doesn't have that money then it is not an option anyway so the woman and child will suffer out whatever happens according to the laws of whatever state they are in. The segment of the population with enough money will always have access to this medical area even if it is expensive and complicated...if there is enough money there is access.

The new law is saying that women in this sort of already horrific situation don't have to literally jump through hoops all around the country to the tune of thousands of dollars...all while going through what is already a very complicated and devastating process. This law is to support women, along with their families and doctors who are trying to do what is necessary to protect themselves AND their unborn children.

The Duggars, like all other evangelicals and fundies in America who voted for and continue to support Donald Trump, a man of multiple affairs, 3 wives, porn stars and prostitutes, and GOD ONLY KNOWS HOW MANY ABORTIONS paid for, and who believes that tearing actual living babies and toddlers away from their parents and housing them in cages, have forever lost whatever moral high ground they thought they had. Unfortunately there were still some people in the country willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for too long but as of the last 2 years it's clear that in this case there is no better disinfectant than sunshine.

So, Duggars, on this, and all other matters of morality - get bent.
