Dottie is also a nick name for Dorothy. Although the Wallers aren’t using nicknames with their children. So maybe Dorothy would be just Dorothy.

Love Dottie and reminds me of a league of their own!

I don’t know that Priscilla has ever read Little Men but This is Meg’s daughter Daisy Brook:

Daisy grows up an obedient and gentle girl, eager to help and please others. She has a strong relationship with her mother, that grows strained when the latter learns of her daughter's feelings for Nathaniel Blake, a young musician Daisy grew up with. Meg is of the opinion that Nat is too weak a man to deserve her beloved Daisy, but changes her mind when he returns from some time in Germany, having learnt some hard lessons there.Daisy is described as "sunshiny and charming" and delights in housework such as cooking, cleaning, washing, and sewing. She shies away from conflict, which causes her to have trouble speaking her mind to the people she loves, if she thinks it will upset them.

Sounds like a  Priscilla’s Ideal daughter right?  Davia would be Nan ;)

dorothy would be great bc bea arthur/dorothy zbornak is the best and they probably have no idea who she was ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

delphine/delphina would be a nice homage to the worst harry potter book ever and she would be a tiny little witch hahaha

Daisy makes me think of Daisy Buchanan, which would be...an interesting if unlikely reference point for fundies. [cuts lengthy but ultimately not that funny anecdote about how my English teacher ruined that name for me in the process of reading Gatsby]

Speaking of high school lit, though, at least we can be fairly sure Dewey Dell is off the table. Those Bundren Family name choices, man. :pb_neutral:

I like Delphine, but I just can't see that one being in the running for them. Daphne or Danae, in my dreams. Or Danai, after Danai Gurira. :pb_lol: Maybe Dana? Scully4EVA! (It's also the name of a bitchy relative of mine, but who cares because Scully.)

Delaney, Laney for short  ,is very cute as well. I knew an absolutely charming little girl by that name at one time so I am partial to it :)

Wow, there really are not that many attractive girls names that start with D. These have been my reactions to just about every suggestion so far. "Ugh. No. Please, no. Nope. Uh-uh. Is this kid going to be born 80 years old? God, please let them have mostly boys."

I mean, I guess Daisy is cute, but insubstantial. Daphne doesn't make me want to puke. They won't use Delilah (too sluttish) or Daniela (too ethnic). Which leaves a whole lot of fug. I wonder how much thought they gave to this plan.

Diffidence,

That is in a Pilgrim's Progress.  A distinct possibility. :)

My middle name is Dorothy.  I f'ing hate it.

It did come in useful when my husband's aunt the Catholic nun (the matriarch of the family) looked down her nose when she first heard my first name.  She said, "But that is not a saint's name!"  I meekly told her that my middle name was Dorothy and disaster was averted.  Temporarily.  She did eventually discover that I was an ebil Prod by upbringing.

Darlene, Dana, and Dawn are possibilities. Dominique means of God, so I would say that could be as well.

Desdemona is out though. ;)

How much thought to these people ever give to anything?  I mean that seriously.  The entire movement is essentially based upon NOT giving thought to potential future problems and instead just hoping everything works out God fixes them.

They don't think about complications in labor or evaluate whether homebirth is the right choice.

They don't think about how they will afford to feed n+1 kids in 10 years.

They don't think about how taking on certain kinds of debt can help them save for the future.

They don't think about the long-term health risks associated with continual pregnancies.

They don't think about how their children's lack of adequate education will eventually hurt them.

They don't think about anything.  They don't plan.  They're told not to.  They're told that trying to plan for the future is "not trusting God".  They never had a plan for these names.  They didn't research their possibilities.  They just felt it was a good idea at the time, and here we are.

Dora? Danica? Demelza? Darcy? Darla? Dulcie?

I feel like Dora would be more popular if not for Dora the Explorer. It rhymes with Cora, which is rapidly rising in popularity.

And to me a Darla needs to be a snarky Southern waitress or nurse. :pb_lol: Maybe that's because I knew a nurse named Darla who fit that stereotype perfectly. She slightly terrified me but was a good nurse!

I'm going with Davida or Daveeda. Perhaps Davina. Dorothy is cute, old fashioned but cute. Dorothy Suzette Waller.

I’m hoping for Davida just because my dad’s college roommate transitioned from David to Davida later in life. I’d just love the look of horror on a fundie’s face if their child shared the same feminization of David as a transgender woman.

I think they give some things a lot of thought. It's just that they're the wrong things. Spending hours coming up with the perfect God-honouring baby name is super important, but that other stuff you listed? No need to worry, God will provide!

As I read this I literally just understood the letter theme. D and P for David and Pris. Wow I’m slow.

After thinking about D names I've now got "Delta Dawn" going through my head.

I feel like D for boys and P for girls would be easier, though I kind of like that they've swapped the genders from their names for the theme, if that is indeed what they're doing rather than alternating letters or not doing a theme at all. It would be kind of funny if after all the D name discussion they named this baby something totally unexpected like Xanthippe.

Ha, I was actually just thinking of weird letters and Xanthippe was the first X name I thought of. I do love that show though!

I could Diligence or Devotion for a girl. I could even seen Devor ah since it sounds vaguely biblical even though I don't think it is.

Delta Dawn, what's that flower you have on...could it be a faded rose from days gone by?

And did I hear you say, he was a'meeting you here today, to take you to his mansion in the sky

(is it sad I remember this?)

I want a fundie to do an X-theme and then use that as an excuse to limit their family size. “There aren’t enough X names out there and we don’t want a child to feel left out if their name is different. So the lord laid it upon our hearts to get a vasectomy “

Dafna makes me think of the novel and movie Exodus.  The kibbutz Gan Dafna was named after Ari Ben Canaan's  murdered sister, Dafna.

And I'm another who think of a certain vampire from Buffy when I hear Drusilla.  I hadn't heard the name Demaris since I was in Sunbeams before I saw the Food Network chef.

It was his girlfriend, not his sister!

Here's Helen Reddy singing Delta Dawn at the age of 73! She also sang "I am woman" at one of the women's marches last year.

Somebody mentioned Danica earlier. I think giving their daughter the same name as the porn star that their philandering brother in law cheated with won't fly.

I like Devon as a female name (I guess it could be unisex), but it's too close to Demon or Devil.

@Hisey,  it's been years since I read the book and I can't remember if it was mentioned in the film adaptation, but good ol' Wikipedia said that Dafna was Ari's sister.

I've re-read since my first reading, but I read the book first when I was in sixth grade.
