Zoey Joy Webster Is Now Here (update)

Seeing an OB/GYN is just normal maternity care here.  A specialist would be more like a maternal-fetal medicine specialist.  While Chad was working a regular job, hopefully he did have insurance.  Now, we can only guess what they're doing.  Perhaps that will influence their decisions in the future.  It's a real shame they had to have three miscarriages before sufficient tests were run to determine the cause.  That sounds like they did have insurance at that time, because that is more than likely an insurance company rule.

As far as co-pays go, your insurance bills maternity care same as general visit? If so, that is awesome! Yes Erin's story is sad at the start, but with a happy ending.

I feel for Michaela who just recently went to Dr. Vick for testing after quite some time trying. I believe Brandon had a semen analysis, too, but not clear if that was considered general practice or specialist work.

I think this family definitely isn't following "if God will allow". We see some of them will rely on medical intervention surrounding their pregnancies. I believe even Kelly took progesterone shots. I can remember if that was a rumor or fact.

It's amazing what religious fanatics choose to embrace and what they choose to reject according to their own needs and preferences.

I am not quite sure we're speaking of the same thing. I did not see Erin on anything live. I am talking about the latest episode of "Bringing up Bates". I don't know where to find a video or how to post one, but here is what happened:

  Reveal hidden contents

The Bates family is rigorously planning for Tori's wedding but Chad and Erin are having a special moment of their own. They're seeing Dr. Vick for an ultrasound of their third child, another girl. They brought their son Carson along to share the moment.

In Dr. Vick's office he says everything checks out fine. Erin is happy the baby is healthy.

Dr. Vick: Now all you have is... fif..fif...no 16...16 more and we'll be there.

Erin: awkward laughter

Chad: Oh, dear.

Dr. Vick: You said you were only going to have one after your first one.

***Everyone chuckles***

Erin: Then I said I was only going to have two. So with three, I...I am thinking I am only going to have three, Sir (or So *difficult to hear). ***chuckles***

Chad: Is your mind made up now?

 ***more chuckles from everyone***

Then they go to interview where Erin says she is speculating that Tori will be in the top two to have amount of children in the teens.

Producer?: You're currently tied for the lead.

Erin (smiling hard): Every time I say this is my last, I don't know what happens. I gotta stop looking at newborn babies. I just can't. They just melt me. (Erin touches her heart tenderly).

Erin (back in Dr. Vick's office): I say three strikes and I am out! ***Laughing. But no one believes her at this point.****

Dr. Vick (patting Chad on the leg). We'll see, won't we?

Erin. Thanks, Dr. Vick.
***Their laughing begins to die down***

Chad: That's right. That's right, we'll see. I say Carson needs a brother.

Erin (No longer laughing but still sorta smiling): Naaaaw,  well we're going to adopt him.

Dr. Vick talks into a duck voice to Carson

Chad: Yeah, there we go.

That means she did say it? Whether she was joking or not is up to the interpreter, I suppose. But she said she was stopping at one, two and now firmly three to her doctor and husband. Then at the end she threw in adoption. Whether I believe her or not is another story at this point.

Also, a 30 year old's sperm count is expected to be the same as a 20 year old in this day and age with male fertility rapidly declining. Interesting.

No, we weren't speaking of the same thing.  I was referring to something Erin said when she was pregnant with Brooklyn.  I don't have the UP network anymore.  It seems she did say those things but I don't believe they're done yet.

As for men and their fertility, I haven't found anything to show that a 30 year old male is less fertile.  There was one report that there's a 9% chance of conception taking more than a year vs. 8% in a man under 25 years old.  Personally I don't see that as a significant decline.

I don't think their done either for the same reason she's said those things before and still had another child.

I am not sure how it is everywhere, but we consider any doctor who is not primary care or generalist to be a specialist. I was thinking Dr. Vick, being OB/GYN is a specialist who would require additional costs if paying out of pocket. But maybe Erin and Chad have medical insurance. He has his own business but maybe Marketplace?

When Kelly and Gil were going there, they said he was a Christian doctor who was giving them free maternity care. It’s quite possible he has given Whitney, Erin, and Michaela similar deals.

Reason #596,487,012 Kelly Bates is a bad mother.  Not only does she still expect her older married daughters to take care of her children, the kids think getting away from home is the best birthday present ever.

Really, Kelly.  Expecting Alyssa to entertain your two little munchkins with her own small kids and a brand new baby was really low.

It seems like every time Alyssa has a baby, she makes all kinds of comments that lead people to believe they must be engaging in family planning... and then there's another "oops" pregnancy a few months later. If they are using NFP, they either need to be a lot stricter or add/switch to another form of birth control. As things currently stand, I don't take anything Alyssa says about family planning seriously at all.

Seriously.  I've taken a long break from the Batesseses, especially Alyssa, and the conversation is exactly where I left off!

May, 2014 - Optimistic Free Jingerites:  Of course, she's going to use some kind of birth control - she wears pants and says she only wants 6 kids!

April 2015 - Alyssa. :  Meet Allie Jane!  It only took 2 months to get pregnant.  Yay!

Optimistic Free Jingerites:  Oh well, she'll use BC now.  Just wait and see - it will be 2 years until the next one.

Jan 2017 - Alyssa:  Meet Lexi Mae!  We had to wait a bit this blessing but she's here in under 2 years.  Fooled ya!

Optimistic  Free Jingerites:    Oh.  Well she was definitely using some sort of BC because there was a bit of a gap there and she didn't have Irish twins.  Now she'll keep using it.  She doesn't want a big family.

Jan 2018 - Alyssa:  Meet Zoey Joy.  I'm punking you!

Optimistic Free Jingerites:  Well, 3 babies in 3 years.  Perhaps she wasn't using non-hormonal family planning right.  And now she says she only wants 4 children.  She'll definitely stop pumping them out Quiverfull-style soon.

I'm not nearly so optimistic.  However small a family Alyssa says she wants, chances are that she'll take as many as God gives her.  Without using sinful family planning.

Did Chad left his job? I hope they know what they're doing.
While Erin was teaching and Chad was working (in a factory?) they appeared to be living well. They are not wasteful people, but they seemed to be enjoying a comfortable way of life while (maybe) saving money.

Now, there are 3 kids and no money from piano lessons, plus every pregnancy means new invoices to pay. So I wonder what's Chad's new job.

One of the Bates brothers was supposed to be taking over Chad's job at Noble Metals.  It is a Christian scrap metal recycling business.  No idea what Chad's position there was.

Chad refinishes furniture these days.

Could there be rhetorical reasons why the Bates ladies keep performing this "woman THINKS she doesn't want more babies but she actually does" routine on TV? I mean, their religion is very interested in evangelizing (and legislating) the "fact" that all women just want to be blessed mamas and women who claim otherwise are just confused.

???? Because recycling giant heaps of scrap metal is usually such a lascivious and worldly enterprise? Who asked for this??

I want to know how they know this particular scrap metal is Christian. Did it say something? Does it look bored and depressed like everyone in Fundie world?

Sorry, bad quote box. The company’s Christian self-image might be partly branding for customers, but my guess is that Chad is mostly telling us viewers (and his in-laws) that he’s spending his days among like-minded people- no cursing, drinking, or uppity women.

He’s flipping houses now as well as refinishing furniture. As far as I know he doesn’t have a new day job.

Bobby is Tori's husband? I'm impressed. I thought he was going to join Gil's Grifting Company.

Bobby either has already left, or will be leaving Noble Metals soon. He got a ministry job, I think he said near Nashville or something? They mentioned it in a live.

Simple, they ask it where it is going to go when it dies. They also give them the good scrap metal test.

Thanks for this! I don't believe there's anybody who does recaps for BUB and I have no way of watching the show even if I wanted to. Although like you pretty much said, all that scene proves is that Erin's word means nothing, lol.

I do think it's interesting that Chad had no problem letting the doctor know he'd like another, since many posters here have been under the impression that perfect Chad would never want to endanger his wife's health for the sake of more children. Not that her life is in a ton of danger as long as she continues getting the proper prenatal care, but still.

Honestly? My opinion of them is so low that I’m just assuming they do the whole hem-haw routine about more babies simply so they don’t appear to be crazy fundamentalists. They have an image to maintain and a brand to sell. Acting like they may not have more kids is part of that imho.

Kelly and Erin aren’t good examples of that to be honest. Their brand of fundamentalism preaches that life begins at conception, so them seeking medical interventions to sustain pregnancies isn’t considered hypocritical - it’s considered the same as seeking life saving treatment for Gil if he had a heart attack or one of the kids if there was an accident.

(I don’t believe this myself, but the Bateses and Duggars do.)

With the clotting disorder, Erin isn't really in danger.  The embryo or fetus absolutely it.

He is but only temporarily. He took the job only while he waits for Tori to graduate, and then they will leave for Nashville. They showed him taking over the job in an episode, it was a desk job, as a manager. To be honest it seemed to be a good job, but maybe the pay was not that good, who knows.

I agree with the people doubting that Alyssa will stop having kids anytime soon. She says if she has another girl she would stop, but i dont believe her, she will keep trying for a boy.

No, it was probably you.  @nelliebelle1197 says she stole it.  And I did a very quick search and also must have missed your post taking credit.  So sorry.

As for the "dubious honor" whoever first coined it gets a medal for brilliance.  But@nelliebelle1197 also gets a medal for fixing it in the collective FJ memory.

If #sperficialtwit Alyssa ever proves herself otherwise (and not QF) I'll be very happy to acknowledge it.  I'm looking for the appearance of intelligence and critical thinking, not dressing well, in Alyssa.

::Tapping toe::

Alyssa wearing pants and being conventionally pretty little #superficialtwit while pumping out babes on QF schedule ain't going to do it for me.
