Sure, it's more than possible. Valentine's Day would still be less than two weeks from her due date. I think most doctors nowadays will induce by that point, but plenty of pregnancies go that long without issue.

Generally up to two weeks is considered okay (assuming a healthy pregnancy). It does depend on the medical provider, some doctors play it safe and want tests to make sure the baby is still healthy before allowing the pregnancy to go that long. On the other hand you also have lay midwives who don't believe in inductions who will go past the two week mark.

I have no idea how these things go in Duggar world, but in real life most doctors won't let you go more than two weeks overdue. In Jessa's case, that would be February 16, so she can definitely stay pregnant until the 14th The reason for the 2 week rule is because the placenta can start to deteriorate around that time so baby isn't getting as many nutrients.

I think Jill went almost two weeks past her due date. Obviously that wasn't a complication-free delivery, but that was probably more due to her stubborn ineptitude and ignorance (sorry to be harsh, but don't claim to be a midwife and then pull something like that) than to the baby being overdue.

Like others have said, it's not too bad. Many babies seem to arrive within ten days of their due date - so if her due date was February first (for example) then Jessa's baby window would most likely be between January 22nd and February 11th. She went late with Spurgeon, so smart money would have been on a date after her due date.

I think she'll go sooner rather than later at this point.

So, if I understand this correctly, they're supposed to announce the gender during tomorrow's episode?

Is it part of the plot of tomorrow's episode or another two minute special segment airing during the commercials or after the show?

If they've had the baby will they just wait and announce it then? If they haven't had the baby will they announce gender anyway or will they demure and play it coy to refrain from spoiling the surprise? I know Jessa loves to keep people guessing.

I could see them having the baby and then requiring that their friends and family keep the news on lockdown in order to wait for the special TLC announcement. At the same time, the Duggars have a funny way of choosing when and how they announce stuff.

Arghhhh, too many questions. This waiting is making me crazy!

Most docs are ok with going post dates to a point, but usually require non-stress tests and sometimes ultrasound to be reassured the baby is ok. Jills piddly Doppler wouldn't show cord or low fluid issues. It carries higher risk when not medically supervised.

Also wouldn't a doctor be more hesitant to let her go too far off her due date do do the baby's size? going off of Spurgeon's sized and crzy birth. I only ask because I had a friend who was induced before her actual due date because she has big babies, though hers is partly because of Diabetes.

If the baby is a girl, I wonder if Jessa would consider Julie as a name. Jim Bob purportedly loves the name, and tried to get Michelle to consider it. I think I read somewhere that it was the name of someone he was fond of before meeting Michelle, but I can't remember where I heard that, and likely could be imagining that scenario because that would be delicious.

If so, Jessa would be smart to use it: Gain points with "Pops", the family's ATM, while extending a finger to her cold-ass mom. Win-win!

 I was two weeks overdue and I was a very small baby even then at 5 lbs 10 oz.....  guess I just wasn't quite done baking

I wholeheartedly agree about them waiting.

During her first pregnancy/the Smuggar scandal, didn't Jessa say something along the lines of it was meant to be the happiest time of her life and everything was taken away from her?

Hell, she and Ben didn't even get to announce the birth or gender, her sister in law stole that thunder too. They didn't say anything for several days after that.

I think she's gotten what she wanted this time. She got a smooth homebirth, she's announcing on her terms, and she's getting to announce it on TV. Maybe even a shoot in People. They might have even decided on a name this time too!

I can't fault her if she waits to announce. It's still a newborn, and it should be her priority. As should her toddler. If she had any sort of complications too, it's important she and the child get propper medical assistance.

 

Even if I'm wrong and she's still waiting to give birth, I hope they wait several days to announce. There's more important things in life, and I hope they know that.

DD's due date was July 4; she was delivered by c-section on July 25. In between, we saw an asshat of a doctor who said, If you were my patient, I'd make you deliver vaginally! " The lady doctor who delivered DD said that her head would have never fit and helped me fill out a complaint against the male doctor in the recovery room. Oh, and DD weighed over 8 pounds;when Kiddo was born VBAC four years later, the doctor delivering him said if he had weighed 2-3OZ more, he would have been a section too. As it was, I had one hell of an episotomy. He weighed 6 lbs 7 ounces.

They won't have to worry about that in the future, when they get enough fundies in the legislature.  They will just change the rules that homebirths and midwives don't need licenses, just the way they were able to relax all the rules about home schooling.  I really don't feel this is an exaggeration.

It's not an exaggeration at all. It is already happening. in some states and on a national level (education, public assistance, Medicaid, Medicare, etc). They just don't care.
