President Cheeto 8: Our Long National Nightmare Begins

The media is fighting back in their own passive aggressive way.  On GMA this morning, they were talking about Trump's and Sean Spicer's war with the media and the skirmish over crowd sizes, and then cut to a clip of Saturday Night Live's cold open, which was a Putin skit with a bare-chested...

Quote

...Beck Bennett as Vladimir Putin giving “a paid message from the Russian Federation”. The show’s take on the Putin/Trump relationship – a manipulative dictator and his oblivious puppet – is much clearer than their perspective on many other areas of Trump, and the very concept of the sketch says more than many of Baldwin’s supposed barbs.

Topless as always, Putin promised Americans that everything will be okay because Russia loves the US: “It’s the most expensive thing we’ve ever bought.” This version of Putin is not entirely enamoured with Trump, taking a swing at the president’s CIA speech, the attendance records at the inauguration versus the Women’s March, and Kellyanne Conway’s patriotic inauguration outfit.

Thanks, Guardian!  Full text here.

I DVRed that tonight. Hilarious, especially the woman who was given a fish for her pension, and later showed up behind the scenes in her pink knitted Woman Hat.

Saw this on Twitter this morning:

In response to the millions of women who marched yesterday, there’s a Facebook rebuttal going around by a woman named Christy. Apparently, there are quite a few women who agree with her.

The summary: Christy doesn’t need this march. Why do any women need this march? This is America, I have everything I need, and if you don’t, it’s your own fault, and marching won’t fix that for you.

Here is my response to Christy, and by association, all the women who agreed with her:

I had a happy moment watching the news this morning.  At some point in the inauguration festivities, Melania was escorted by an insanely hot young Marine -- hard body, chiseled chin...Where was I? Oh, yeah, she was holding onto his arm and they looked like the perfect couple.....with a smile on Melania's face that reaches all the way to her eyes.... Isn't that a captain's insignia on his shoulder?

Boy that ought to get the twitters going.

Something I just thought of when President Obama was first running for office, one time either he or Michelle said he went and got permission first from Michelle because the family would have to share Obama with the nation for the next four or eight years.

What an awesome rebuttal!

I checked into the Claire Rembis FB this morning to see if she's admitting they had a hearing but still don't have the kids.  She can't be bothered to post about her kids, but she did post some BS about how she didn't need the march.  Amazingly, Lubbock, TX (where Claire lives) , had a pretty good turnout.   Texas Tech University is in Lubbock but it's an incredibly conservative school.  A family member went to grad school there, and one of her fellow students wanted to open group study sessions with a prayer.

Not having seen the actual facebook post, I have to wonder if "Christy" is even a woman, or if this was some old guy trying to oldmansplain why the wimmen folk don' t need marches and the like?

I have come to you all on my lunch break to find my center. It has been a trying morning listening to the trumpsters I work with spouting off alt-Reich talking points.

Yeah, let's talk about how messy the women's March protesters were, how dare they leave signs.

Yes, let's not understand why they were marching. Let's voice loudly our opposition without giving any real reasons why.

OMFG.

Anyone else feel like this is where we may be headed:

I attended the March in Nashville with my Mom and my four month old daughter on Saturday. I had actually assumed there wouldn't be much going on here, but my Mom happened to be visiting for the weekend and was all over it. Shocked that there were over 15,000 people there! And I was really heartened to hear all of the Southern accents in the crowd, which means that many of the people marching weren't just recent transplants to the South from progressive areas. Hooray!

Also, if one more person in my Facebook newsfeed reposts that "I don't need the Women's March, I'm a CHRISTIAN woman" thing, my eyes are going to fall out of my head from rolling too much.

I have had the "Christy" post (with the name Christy removed, posted as if it is original writing) come across my FB more than once. One person's post of it - that I admit the poster is a sincere believer in its words - initiated a rather strong back and forth that included very aggressive posts anti- the women's march. (I was trying to post about that when I couldn't get it posted due to the constantly scrolling problem).

I just had the above rebuttal come across my page a short while ago. I chickened out and didn't even feel I should "like" it because I have already posted two original-by-me posts with political implications today and I can't fight on FB all day long.

I was at the Nashville march, too.  I was the one without a sign.

On NPR, they said over twice as many showed up as anticipated.  It was great.  I waited in the parking lot adjacent to the park, and couldn't believe how many waves of people kept showing up.  Still pumped from the experience.  So many nice people.  I was standing by my lonesome (my modus operandi, I'm one of those introverts), and several people wandered over to just say hello.

Glad you and your family had a positive experience, too.

For all those asking about next steps, here are some places to start.

First, a follow-up plan issued by the women's march with 10 actions to take over the next 100 days: https://www.womensmarch.com/100/

Next, a website telling you your nearest swing district. They will email you ways to get involved to try to swing the district left leading up to 2018. https://swingleft.org/

Finally, a resistance manual. A central place for issues we need to stay vigilant about, their current status, and what you can do about it. https://www.resistancemanual.org

Apologies if some of these have already been posted. I've seen them go around in so many places I can't keep it all straight. But I think they are great resources to start with.

Thanks!  Unfortunately, my shitty ass town is full blown red, but my neighboring district has a good chance of going blue, so I signed up to help.  One of these days, I'm going to move to a goddamn blue state instead of having to live in this red hell hole.

Yeah I've entertained that notion too from time to time of leaving Iowa for bluer pastures.  I really liked Oregon when I visited back in 2015.  Maybe once school is done.

Come north! I'm proud to be represented by Keith Ellison.

Thank you! Connecticut doesn't have any swing districts apparently (), so I joined the list for NY's 19th district. We'll see how much I'm actually able to do.

I'll keep an eye on the March page too. I'll see about thanking my Congressional Reps for marching and for their efforts thus far too. They're all Democrats and have been very quick to condemn Cinnamon Hitler's actions, so luckily there isn't much I can do other than thank them.

Same. I didn't go because of Velocibaby. But I saw photos of P¡nk (the singer) attending a march with her husband, daughter, and their 3 week old son. And now I feel bad for not going because my baby is seven weeks old. Lots of people marched here, but I feel bad that I can't one day tell my daughter that I was one of them. :|

I feel sad that I didn't march too. I decided I wouldn't want to take my children for a number of reasons.  I didn't want to leave my son for that long since he is still nursing and I didn't want to have to figure out pumping.

We will be able to tell our children someday that we decided not to march because we thought it was best for them. We will be able to tell our children that we supported those who protested. We will be able to tell our children that we chose to protest and take action in different ways.

My Representative is due for another phone call. The lady I talked to on the phone last week at his office seemed annoyed that I was bothering her by sharing my concerns. I am going to try to call his office again today once my son wakes up from his nap. (He is sleeping on top of me right now). If I sense annoyance again, I plan on informing whoever I talk to that if I am bothering his office by calling that I will keep that it mind while trying to make extra time in my schedule to campaign for his opponent in the midterm election. I am eager for him to schedule a town hall. Mr. A and I are planning on getting a babysitter that night and having a date night - dinner and an interactive show.

I signed up for email updates from the swingleft website. I live in a Republican congressional district. The website seems hopeful it is possible for it to turn blue.

Yeah Minnesota is also on the list of places I'm thinking of moving to.  In fact I'm in a hybrid online/on-campus program at a St. Paul school now and just love the Twin Cities.

I signed up for my next-door swing district, which is currently Republican. I made sure to check the guy's voting records, because we get some perfectly resonable Republicans in our state (Google Arne Carlson), but he's typical of the current party. So time to get him out and put real Minnesota values in the office.

It's a wonderful place! Come to the land of books (I recommend Powell's in downtown Portland), food carts, and beautiful places to hike. Enjoy these beautiful places, with a Northwest Forest Pass ($30/yr) before Congress decides they all need to be logged off or corporate sponsored.

I had a nightmare a couple of nights ago that Congress did one of the things it talked about a bit- invited corporations in to privatize National Parks and other public lands. In my nightmare, I was at the McDonalds Crater Lake, with Ronald, Grimace, Hamburgler, and other McDonalds characters walking around. Instead of the serene beauty, a huge McDonalds was built. There were also rides, like a theme park. What a nightmare!

I see Cheeto's staff has unplugged the White House Comment Line

If you were planning to voice your concerns directly to President Trump, today is not the day. The White House’s public switchboard where you can “Call the President” is closed. Instead, a recorded message asks you to consider contacting him online, using Facebook.

“The comment line is currently closed but your comment is important to the President and we urge you to send us a comment online at www.whitehouse.gov/contact or send us a message through Facebook messenger,” the automated message directs. Typically, this switchboard has a staff of operators who can assist callers who want to leave messages for the President and contact his staff. Washingtonian has not been able to reach the White House for comment. Maybe we, too, should send them a Facebook message.

Well...i just signed up for emails from my closest "swing" district. Over 100 miles from me and they are "blue", but barely. I happen to live in a VERY blue area, as you can probably tell by my screen name. My county went 70% for Clinton with probably close to the rest going for the independent candidate.

I will also be supporting via my $$$ to Planned Parenthood and other organizations, especially those who have started legal proceedings against the orange one.

There's definitely some very conservative people in Lubbock and also attending Tech, but you'll still encounter people with more liberal views. Lubbock is the biggest city for over 200 miles, so it's great that they had a march for those in the area. I actually miss living in Lubbock. Overall, it's more liberal than where I currently live.

Did you hear about the marches in Alpine and Marfa?

For the non-Texans, Alpine and Marfa are small towns in Far West Texas. They are both located in TX-23, which is a swing district currently represented by a Republican.

OK, departing from seriousness for a minute (sorry) to be somewhat snarky.

What in the world is wrong with Kellyanne? (I mean physically. Not even starting on anything else). Her hair looks unhealthy, her skin looks unhealthy, her teeth look awful. I noticed the teeth when the news stations kept replaying the "alternative facts" interview clip yesterday. At times she had her mouth open wider than usual. Her bottom teeth - the front portion of the teeth are too-white-too-perfect. It is hard to tell for sure, but the white/perfect teeth don't go far enough back on the sides to be a full or most of a full arch of teeth. The teeth further back are either darker and smaller, or missing, or something.

Anyway...

Unless this is a temporary move, Snowflake Orange is an idiot. The most reliable voting demographic is seniors, and many seniors do not have, or want internet access. A Republican president telling a group of mostly Republican voters that he doesn't care about their opinion is not a smart move, ya dimwit!
