Bates Family Part 16 - Babystep Bates

There's definitely a story behind those tweets!  I guess this is the fundy version of vague booking via twitter?  Posting bible passages about the wages of sin being death?  Not to mention the truly obvious tweets about how only time will tell.  Have any other Bates SM accounts openly congratulated JinJer?  (BTW who ever came up with that nickname is awesome).

I think the Bateseseseseses are otherwise occupied with their brand new spawn.

I will be the outlier voice and wonder if those tweets are in regards to new developments in the lawsuit which are going to be announced in the near future.

Have you seen his recent tweets though?

Some people are suggesting it's subtweets directed at 'JinJer' and tbh it actually looks like he's quite bitter. Maybe there was something going on after all...

Not sure if I believe it though haha I think I'm just after some drama and let's be honest, that would be sooooooo interesting to watch.

I thought Lawson seemed rather awkward during the last episode where Nathan, Trace and him were sitting on the sofa and one of them mentioned Lawson not being able to get a girl... or something to that effect.   He came off as a little wary of the whole conversation and it didn't seem like the " I have someone in mind and we will be courting soon...." type deal.    I can't really remember the exact wording and I am at work so I can't pull it up.   But I do remember it striking me as different from the normal teasing about him being single....

Joe and carlin is definitely happening in the next two years, she's too young and immature for now. But the behind the scenes they so said if anyone was going to court a Duggar, they said carlin.

My grandmother born in 1893 was named Kate and not Katherine.  My daughter was born in 1987 and was named Katherine in her memory.  I didn't realize that my grandmother's first name was just plain Kate.  I still would have named my daughter Katherine though.

I won't tell you her middle name which my husband favored for her first name, but let's just say it's rather like naming your kid James if your last name is Stewart.

So the family (Kelly?) posted a throwback pic of Gil with baby Zach to honor Kaci's birth.

Holy mullet and porn stache!

Trace: If Lawson can convince a girl to come.

Gil looks terrifying in this picture. It's like he has a mullet and a bouffant all wrapped up in one shitty haircut.

I actually like that picture of Gil and Zach. Gil looks horrible, but those were the late 80's/early 90's and everybody looked pretty awful. I like this pic because it shows him as a normal guy, in normal clothes. This was years before they joined ATI and how great it would have been if they never got in touch with it.

Aside from the horrible mullet and mustache I can see why Kelly was attracted to him… holy biceps ;)

I also find it so funny how Carlin looks EXACTLY like him. With these mega-families you can usually see a mix of the parents' features in each kid, but holy hell, Carlin is pretty much a Gil clone.

As of now, the Bates have 4 kids married, 4 grandchildren (1 on its way), and 2 courting (Nathan and Tori). The Duggars have 3 kids married, 6 grandchildren, and 1 child courting (Jinger). And Jinger's news overshadowed Kaci Lynn's arrival. It's like they're playing catch up.

That is exactly what I think it is. Especially with the Ephesians 4 verses because the people suing Gil and company are accused of being bitter, angry and not being a good a witness for Christ. Because of the lack of coverage, it is easy to forget that this family is involved in such a nasty lawsuit and there are things going on with that that the Bates kids are probably aware of before we are. All the adult kids seem to be siding with IBLP/Gil and thinking the victims are wrong. And, keep in mind that all of the adult kids are still advertising for IBLP and still on a show that makes the cult lifestyle look harmless. If they were siding with the victims, I wouldn't think they wouldn't be doing those things.

I'm sorry but that's YOUR opinion. I'm not going to be a pessimistic asshole and tell someone that one of the things they want in life isn't going to happen cause stadistics. I know that being single isn't a bad thing if it is a personal choice, it's great but if you want a romantic relationship, who am I to say you'll never get it cause stadistics says so? Even when odds are against us in the worst case scenario, there's people achieving things... I'm all for it about being independent, single and fabulous but having romantic love is human nature. If you think telling someone else they're going to end up alone is okay, fine, it's your choice but don't tell me i'm wrong. I don't go the pessimistic settle for something else route.

It isn't my opinion that there are only 88 men for every 100 women; it is fact. I don't think that telling people that they WILL end up alone is okay. That would be lying and unnecessarily cruel. What is my opinion is that we are setting girls up for a lifetime of heartache by assuring them that there is someone for them when there might not be. It is my opinion that it would be better to prepare them to find their fulfillment in themselves rather than waiting their entire lives expecting Romeo to show up. In fact, when 88 of those 100 women taught this do find their guy, they will have happier marriages, because marriage only makes you happier for the short-term honeymoon effect; after that, you return to your previous level of happiness (again, not my opinion, Psychology Today, March 2013 has an article on this and it is discussed in Intimate Relationships by Rowland Miller).

To be honest, I respect Alyssa slightly more for this decision, those comments were getting really nasty.

Alyssa has sworn off social media for the foreseeable future because people are saying "mean things."

Oh, Alyssa. Please grow up. There is a legitimate difference between mean comments and objective observations. I'm sorry you had to grow up in such an oppressive and bigoted family, but you need to own up to the fact that your family does not hold beliefs that others view as welcoming or loving.

I completely agree that, due to her background, she should be more prepared and understanding of mean comments but some of them were just awful. The ones I'm mainly referring to were the ones about Allie - they were saying things like she was ugly or that she was probably/looked autistic, that's not okay in my opinion regardless of how polite people were 'trying' to sound. However, how much Alyssa's decision was about those comments or the others I do not know.

I don't think it's because she's not strong enough - no one should be conditioned to have death threats roll off their back.

There's a big difference between constructive criticism (some of the car seat advice, because people want Allie to be safe) and the people who go to her page to snark and leave comments regarding her religion, etc.

I've seen a few comments over the past few years calling them names, saying Allie looks like she has autism, telling them they need to die, etc. Regardless of how someone was raised or how they want to live, no one deserves to have those comments made.

She made the right decision by closing her account, IMO.

Commenting on a child's appearance really is off the limits and I can respect Alyssa's decision to take a break from IG. When it comes to the comments about her lifestyle it is clear to me that she really needs to grow up. A lot.

People told a mother her baby was ugly? Wow, people really can be awful.  :my_confused:

From a strategic standpoint it also sucks, because when she gets terrible comments like that, it's easy to lump everyone who criticizes her in any way together. So comments about the incorrect car seat and the negative impacts of her father-in-law's policies get lost in the shuffle of internet hatred and just make her less likely to step out of her Fundie bubble.
