OMG, John works for someone else! Ha! And look at all those young women with necklines that show collarbone! And no second shirts underneath!

How is Steve allowing this?

I feel like Jessica Magaha has the right stuff to corrupt our John.

I'm already shipping them.

He works with WOMEN!!!

I'd say that John would just say where he works, and that it's with other people, but Steve seems like the kind of guy to do his research.

They don't seem to be overtly Christian. That was (one of) the main problem(s) with Swift Otter etc, they mentioned about how much they love Jesus and were really overtly Christian. Way to severely limit your market.

The company is not fundie. In their blog they talk about selling the house when divorce. They offer consulting. It seems a normal company.

Well, if you are an agent, you have to go to meetings and courses, haven't you? So maybe John is really opening his social circle. I hope so.

Swift Otter has taken all the Christian stuff off their web site.  Remember Joseph's "I'm saved by the blood of Jesus" stuff?  All gone.

That would have turned me completely off if I was considering hiring a company.  Apparently they realized it too.

Although those washed out pictures of them wouldn't endear them to me either.

I wonder if his colleagues know that he lives in a cult house and his mom keeps all of his internet passwords secret from him so he won't look at porn. I also wonder if he was as secretive with them about his trip abroad a few months ago as he was with his blog readers. "I'm going out of the country but I can't tell you where!"

Here is what I have against the three women sharing a bedroom, they have no choice.  Sarah is 34 and Mary is 19 but they have always shared their bedroom with Anna which means they have no private space, no place to call their own.  They cannot decorate for themselves or choose their own lights out time or go have a good cry without everyone knowing. They can't buy a sexy pair of panties and hide them in a drawer or keep a secret journal. It really is like being in prison.

Now I realize they have never known anything else but I have to imagine that once in awhile they must want to do something that the other sisters don't need to know about. This being Maxhell they have few outlets and aren't even allowed much alone time in the bathroom.  Those of you who shared (or share) a room undoubtedly have places you can go, things that you can do-- even if it is go to your job or school or the library.  None of the Maxwell daughters have that luxury.

They have to share clothes drawers too?  Yeah that's definitely not okay.

I'm not the type who could share a room with anyone long term. I shared a room with like ten other girls once for a summer and it was hell on earth.

According to Zillow, it's 4,000 sqft, and has 4 beds and 4 baths, and a total of 8 rooms (not sure what that specifies, though).

That's quite large, so at least they aren't falling all over each other.  I was assuming it was a bit more suffocating.

It looks like he's working for an actual company.  Lots and lots of employees on the website.

Wow!! That's a lot of female co-workers!  Hope Steve doesn't worry about John having to go to lunch with any of them.   :my_angel:

Editing this post to add:  I just saw the blog post that Teri wrote about Mrs. F, an old Maxwell "friend".  Of all the things she could have mentioned about her joy at seeing Mrs. F again, such as marveling at how quickly time flies and we should cherish our friendships while our friends are still living, what does she marvel at?   That Mrs. F thought to hand the cashier a tract!   :kitty-cussing:  That's right, of all the ways one could be a faithful servant to Lord Jesus, this is what she admires?!

John has always been the rule-breaker.  He'll be the one to run if any of them do.  Run, John, run!  Get yourself a rule-breakin' girl and move as far as you can from the compound!  And then please, PLEASE, let us help you break your sisters free!

I didn't make it a semester in the dorms... then it was apartment life for me even if that meant working full time and struggling! Even with 5 kids we all had our own rooms. Thank you Dad for having an amazing career in finance instead of grifting to support your big family!

Good heavens, Handmaiden, you gave me my best laugh of the day, sexy panties on a Maxwell!  If there ever was an example of total dissonance, or whatever you call it, that's it.   (Male or female, too.)  I doubt that any Maxwell could browse a lingerie catalog without SEVERELY blushing and rapid shallow breathing.  Of course, different reasons for said reaction by males and females, but again, I am laughing as I type.

Ooh, a Maxwell gratefulness post when it's not Thanksgiving! :o Sarah is grateful for Ellie as she brings sparkle, a double-dose of patience, and smiles into her life. God knows Sarah needs smiles.

Maybe Working for someone else is seen as ok because John is helping to financially support the family. It's also possible that John doesn't actually spend much time at the office. He has only sold four houses in the time since we knew about the first listing so maybe it is more of a part time job. I have always thought that the older married sons have to have some type of outside employment to financially support their families.

i really doubt he actually has to *work* with the women, or even come into contact with them.  the business address is in lansing and they live in an entirely different state? my guess is that it's a work remotely type job where he rarely has to come into contact with coworkers at all. (which may explain why steve is okay with it)

I am guessing that they are co-workers mainly to the extent that they are contractors of the same company.

However, when I was googling for Swift Otter, to check out the post above re: wiping Jesus out of the family business, I saw that Joe, Jesse and REVERSAL ANNA all belong to a local MEETUP group for IT professionals. A group that meets outside the compound, for secular discussions about ITwizzerypokerywithoutJesus.

Things don't seem to be working out the way Steve planned for them to work out. So if it turns out John is accepting business lunch invitations from female women, then I won't be exactly surprised.

I listened to a podcast where Steve was talking about Preparing Sons to Leave the Compound, and he was all about Joe, Nathan, and Chris in that order.  John got about as much attention as the wimminfolk did.

This enforced no-privacy situation is why I suspect Stevehovah got rid of Uriah. Sarah used to use the bus as a quiet space for her writing.
