Aww he's really cute! Good for them! Thank god he doesn't look like Jim Bob. Michelle is having a breakdown because she's in a "new season of life" that's why there are no pictures of her! Aw man, he's super sweet though! I'm glad it went well for her!

Oh, I thought the name test (or full initials*) was to see if a name rhymed with any dirty words or slurs.  LOL!  I totally did THAT test with my kids' names!

*i.e., Charles Richard Alexander-Porter; Bethany Amanda Rachael Foster <--NOT my kids' names, BTW.

That's a really good test!

Has anyone seen the photo collage the crazy fans have already made?

Jim Bob, his mom and baby seewald in a striped onesie, and then there's Dad (Bin).

Hoooooo BOY Ben looks terrrified!!! He was so smug all through the pregnancy with his arm around Jessa and holding her big belly, like LOOK WHAT I MADE.

and now....heh. good luck Benny boy! I personally think it's very irresponsible and regressive to be "taking time off for the new baby coming", but honestly, it looks like he needs it. Personally he doesn't seem like he is mature or capable enough of dealing with both!

The baby is very cute though

I'm 5'3" , one baby 9lbs the other 10lbs.  Both right around the 23" mark. Both in hospital, neither with drugs  :D  Oh, and the 10lber was also face up....

My first was 5lb 8oz and I labored in hospital on Pitocin for 34 hours. I was induced at 36 weeks due to severe preeclampsia. At about the 32 hour mark, my doc [very anti c-section MFM specialist] finally broke my water. I went from 4 cm to fully dilated in about an hour. Unfortunately, my doc had gone home to walk her puppy as she assumed it would take me a lot longer to be ready to push. I told one of the nurses that I felt like I needed take a crap and that's when they checked and hurriedly gethered everything for the grand finale of pushing. I vividly remember finally hearing my doctor's high heels clicking along the floor while I'm being told to wait to push until she go there. That was the only time I cursed in my entire labor and all I said was "Where in the h$ll is that God damned doctor!"  She came in the room, got positioned, I pushed once and she told me really to give it a go and bear down so I did.... She said, "Oh! You don't have to push *that* hard. Third push and I shot that baby out like a slingshot! LOL. The doctor had been doing perineal massage and I managed to get a lovely 3rd degree tear from my itty bitty guy!

I was told by both my doctor and L&D staff that small babies can be quite painful-- especially skinny ones like mine because instead of a plump little ball of chub, I was essentially pushing out a bony, scrawny baby and I could feel it. And their heads were of normal circumference even though my babies were small. [The preeclampsia and my heart-shaped [bicornuate uterus] caused them to have growth restriction.]

My second was 5lb 11oz [today is his 6th birthday!!! He shares it with my dad and my best friend too!]. The doctor told me that I likely just couldn't grow them any bigger because of the complications I had.

They basically said, though that babies in the 7-8 pound range are easier in most cases. Small and large babies tend to be tougher deliveries for both mom and baby.

Aww, a wee baby Smugglyupagus.

I'm still lmao that Been's (Guin called him that the other day) sister dropped the news. I actually don't feel sorry for Jessa at all.

I'm glad you picked up on that! I ssaw that and wondered if anyone else noticed! I also wondered, what the hell

Oh,  been! :pb_lol:

I guess a follow up question? So tall women with big hips aren't necessarily set for an easier delivery, right?  Also, in people's experiences outside the US, are c-sections more common in other countries (specifically I am wondering Latin America)?

since she had the home birth -and since we know TLC was there - do we think TLC stayed outside the door listening to Jessa give birth - or do we think they were all in the room - should be entertaining :D

My second was occiput posterior aka face up or sunny side up. His friggin' nose caught and he wouldn't budge so the doc did an episiotomy and out he came. The episiotomy was a much easier recovery than the 3rd degree tear from my first.

After him, I had some urinary incontinence issues and I couldn't feel my fun button after his birth [likely also because I was in labor for quite a long time]. The funny thing was, after giving birth to #2, it all fixed itself like magic! Don't know how, but I am ever grateful that it did!

As for husbands/partners holding the baby, I think it's a pretty common terror they have. They don't want to "break" the baby. My husband didn't hold our first until he was over 2 weeks old. He'd been in the NICU and hubby was too scared to hold him with all of the monitors and wires he was hooked up to. Even then, he looked absolutely terrified when he did hold him!

There's a picture of my grandpa holding me as a newborn, and he also looks terrified. Not really surprising because I looked like this:

I have to agree with you and that's coming from me - but he looks terrified

I would say that vaginal births are more common in most countries.  That isn't true for Brazil, though.  Those women have elective c-sections like crazy.

I hope Jessa takes the modest route and her special has a recap of her pregnancy and shows her starting labor (like walking around the house) and then we get to see Jim Bob outside honking to see the baby. No labor. Not only do I not want to see Jessa in labor, I think it since we have seen her on TV since she was 10-11, seeing her go from girl to childbirth is too much. Who knows what kind of creeps watch.

I imagine a lot of candles and hot cloths and the midwife telling Ben to cut the cord - (which we see) and him crying = and jessa we see in a halo - i don't see active labour moments - but after - with the door closed - and the baby crying

I watch to many soaps :D

Everyone had to come watch like in 18th century Versailles, to make sure that Jill didn't sneak in with a bucket or a birthing pool that concealed an impostor baby who would usurp the pure bloodline.

They're overwhelmingly common in Brazil -- a huge percentage are planned c-sections -- but I'm not familiar with any others.

I'm hoping that the reason we have yet to see Michelle is that she's taking care of her daughter.

From the People article:

"Jessa (Duggar) Seewald and husband Ben Seewald welcomed their first child Thursday, a healthy baby boy weighing 9 lbs. 11 oz. and 21 ½ inches long. "

I think it's hilarious how they're releasing a little info at a time. They're lapping up the attention.

Cute baby, kind of looks like he'll end up with Jessa's jawline eventually. I'm surprised she went through with the home birth. I figured she'd go to the hospital and get an epidural. (and no, I'm not going to be one of those people who acts like she deserves a medal for birthing a big baby. I kind of hate it when people try to act like they did something more amazing then someone else.)

Thank you! I think it's obnoxious that people think they need a pat on the back for having a baby. Big whoop. Happens every day.

As for Jessa having a home birth...I don't think it was to upstage Jill. I think the cheapness of it was a big motivator.

I would say that vaginal births are more common in most countries.  That isn't true for Brazil, though.  Those women have voluntary c-sections like crazy.

The WHO recommends a minimum c-section rate of around 1-5%, a 10% rate shows improved outcomes.  The recommended upper limit is 15%.  Around 50% of countries have rates above 15%, with 40% below 10%.   China and Brazil account for 50% of the world's unnecessary c-sections.  The US has a rate of 30.3%, while this is high it is not the highest, (US ties for 13th).

There is no country where vaginal births are not more common, the highest rate is Brazil at 49.5%

I'm worried this will happen with our second.  I'm 23 weeks pregnant and we just can't agree on a name.  At all.

Don't worry.  Just go armed with the lists you both love and let them sink in as you look at your baby.  It will all work out!  And many congratulations on your second pregnancy!

I don't quite understand the home birth comments. She's a Duggar. She's a fundie. It is what they usually do, isn't it?  Or, attempt to do, at least?
