I'm just here to point out the contradictions

I did not expect this post to make me so ragey.

.

Oh, Lori ... I don't even know where to start ... but let me tell you, porn has always been here. It might not have been fed right into people's home via a convenient wifi connection, but most people knew exactly how to get their hands on it. Example A: google "those naughty victorians tumblr" VERY NSFW (And let me tell you, those Victorians were pretty darned kinky sometimes!)

1. *used to (as in, I cannot believe Lori USED TO be a teacher)

2. Peer-reviewed studies for any of this? People kept their marriage vows more? She is sure that women were respected more? How does she know any of this? Oh wait, she's making shit up.

3. Also, does she know that the main reason flying was so much more roomy and comfortable in years past is because the tickets were way more expensive (and a lot of 'regular folk' couldn't afford them)? NOPE because she's privileged and always has been privileged and doesn't have even the slightest conceptual understanding of not being a rich, white American.

Also, Lori SHOULD (as a teacher) know that anecdotal evidence is not reliable to use as fact. Are there some men that view women as objects? Definitely. Are there many men that view women as objects? I'd say yes. But that doesn't mean that it's the rule... sheesh, she's not even trying to hide how much she really loathes Ken, is she? What a sad, bitter woman.

I am not buying it for a minute. Lori has recounted that in a conversation she had with her son, he claimed that Ken hit harder:

She has also referred to him pushing one of the boys down:

And Ken himself has admitted to leaving a bruise on one of the boys:

Oh, and then there was the day that they "took turns" hitting their 18 month old...too much work for one abuser you know

So nope. Not buying the story that Ken laughingly sat them in time out (the laughing sounds like an idea he got from Michael Pearl), while Lori furiously beat the shit out of them with her leather strap. I think they are both just as guilty as sin. You don't leave a bruise on a kid while unemotionally telling them to "run to timeout".

Ah, yes. Thank you for refreshing my memory.

THIS is why there is such a thing as "whitewashing history" because people forget. Lorken BANK on this, and it allows them to creatively and retroactively edit any darn thing they want.

Beating your kid until he has a bruise = abuse in most states, afaik (certainly here it does). And taking turns beating an 18 month old? I don't even know where to start. Since when does an 18 mo even have the wherewithal to misbehave so badly that he'/she must be "punished" (abused) to such an extent?

Lori:

I was a leader in a Bible Study a few years ago and I looked around at all the women, about 40 of them, and the majority of them had sweats on!

I'm sorry, but why does this gossiping busy body feel free to publicly berate those she is supposed to be mentoring/ministering to?

She devotes entire posts to calling readers out and divulging private details of the lives of those she mentors (always criticizing the woman of course), and now she's talking about the women at her church (on her very public blog)???? :evil-eye:

And for serious, am I the only one who just doesn't pay that much attention to other people's clothes? I'm not really "into" clothes, so that may be why. But unless someone is wearing something outrageous, I typically don't even notice. I just don't care what other people wear.

I notice when I like it or it is really really noticeable. Otherwise I am like you, I don't care.

Is gossiping no longer a sin? Kind of like having an emotional affair (although there is no such thing in Lorken's world) isn't really adultery?

Interesting, Lori. I guess you are unaware, then, that the airlines and travel advice folk recommend wearing loose fitting, natural clothes; avoiding heels and hose on planes (the heels are dangerous on the slides and hose can melt and cause horrific burns); and recommend dressing layers. Jeans, sneakers and a sweatshirt are actually really good, practical clothes to wear on a plane.

was she the woman who posted pictures of the backsides of women in her bible group because they were wearing jeans and she thought they weren't feminine?

side note: i posted a direct link to the post for the contradictory comment up there. i didn't want it to get buried, so i'll mention it here. ;)

I don't think this was Lori. I remember this happening, but I don't think it was Lori. Lori almost exclusively uses stock photos, unless they're of her family.

It was a really unflattering picture of a woman's behind that the blogger personally took.

More seen as objects in the past than today. We, as a society, still have a ways to go in regards to seeing women as people. The media can partly be blamed for this. And I think men and women respect each other far more today than in the past. Women being raped and/or abused was probably just as common and would not surprise me if it was more prevalent in the past, however, women were not taken seriously, she was a man's property and therefore men could do with women as they wanted. It was his right to beat her, to rape her. She could not have a job and in the past could not own land or property of any kind, so she could not escape for her own safety. She did not belong to her father any longer, so there was nothing they could do to help her. By law, even if her parents feared for their daughter and wanted her out, she was her husband's property and they could not help her.

Based off government statistics (Exact numbers not at my disposal at the moment, but did look it up in the past), child abduction and rape and murder were actually more common decades ago than today. We just hear about it more now thanks to 24 hour news media. Same with crime in general. Crime has gone continued to decrease since the 90s. It really peaked in the 70s and 80s, but started to drop in the 90s and keeps dropping. Incarceration rates have dropped greatly as well.

Pornography has been around for a very, very long time. It preceded the internet by decades, if not centuries. And let's not forget that prostitution is the oldest profession. Or that brothels did not exist centuries before and do not exist in other countries besides the US.

As for keeping their vows in marriage...oh, what she does not know is just sad. Concept of mistresses in the past or concubines must elude her. And that children always had a mom and dad...concept of death of parents elude her too? Or the idea that some women had babies outside of wedlock? My grandmother was raised by a single mother. No one is really sure who her dad is and the man she was with for a time...well, apparently a lot of people in the family do not believe he was my grandmother's biological father despite his name on the birth certificate. They think he lied as a friend of my great-grandmother so my grandmother would not be declared a bastard child. My grandmother was an only child as well. But of course, that could not be true according to Lori and Ken because people did not have sex outside of marriage back in those days (1930s, those good ol' days where everyone was perfect). Or that my grandfather was raised mostly by a single mother because he died died when he was about 10. The children, male and female, shared a bed because it was not all happy Victorian gowns with maids and nannies (I said Victorian because lots of fundies think Victorians and many similar era were one in the same). Again, 1930s/1940s, good old days.

   seriously, not enough eyerolls exist for Ken and Lori. I swear they are the dumbest people I have come across.

If you look at the post, it's clear that Lori doesn't give a damn about facts, figures, statistics, etc. It's all about what she THINKS is true. And if Lori thinks it's true then, dammit, it's true. Lori factsbedamned Alexander.

right, right. i get those two mixed up sometimes. especially with the centered text and the similar profile pics (lori has darker hair, but in the face in the smaller picture, they look pretty similar to me).

Do not get me started on use to /used to and suppose to/supposed to. It just makes me :pull-hair: Doesn't anyone in her life care enough to tell her??????

These kinds of mistakes piss me off because, in this case, the person making them believes she's qualified to teach children.

It is somewhat true that styles have changed. Dressing up for flights used to be a thing (back when only the elite could fly, and it was a pretty rare thing to do, and flights were shorter, and nobody knew about the risk of blood clots). I've also got photos of my dad and his buddies in Europe after they finished their MBAs, and they have dress pants and jackets. I think he at least made it to short sleeves by the time he hit Israel. Of course, he was in his own time warp and somehow missed the fact that there were hippies and student protests all around him (literally - he has pictures of a burnt out car in Paris in 1968).

Lori, however, isn't that California styles aren't the norm everywhere. In Toronto, people are fairly conservative. I've never heard of anyone wearing shorts to church outside of a summer camp/youth group, for example.

Last time I checked, people were not wearing sweats to the office. Of course, Lori knows nothing about that, so it doesn't count even though it's far more common to go into an office than it is to fly on a plane.

We have a super casual dress code when we don't have donors in, etc because of the changing times. And we can't wear sweats to the office.

Okay, so she starts by acknowledging that there used to be way more space, comfort and legroom on flights, and that it's not like that anymore. But somehow we should all wear clothes that not even Lori wears on flights because LADYLIKE.

Lori can kiss my ass. The next time I'm on a flight, I full intend to be wearing leggings as pants with an oversized hoodie

My office dress code is SUPER casual because the work I do is very messy. Jeans and tshirts always, unless you want black goo on your fancy dress :P

Former Radio 1 DJs Mark and Lard told a funny story about when they were flying to America and asked for an upgrade. The woman at the check-in desk said she'd see what she could do, but they couldn't possibly be considered for an upgrade dressed as they were. They were dressed in clothes designed primarily for comfort, as any sensible person would do about to board a long-haul flight. Though he did admit that Lard's Dead Kennedys T-shirt might have offended her!

My office dress code is jeans/t-shirt, too, though the work isn't messy; people just don't care what the programmers are wearing

Course, Lori would probably be okay with my (mostly) male colleagues wearing jeans and a t-shirt, because they're not women dressed in an unfeminine manner.

But see, they could be. I don't understand what is unfeminine about jeans cut for women, a fitted tshirt, and some flats. There is a very distinct difference between jeans and tshirt a man might wear vs. jeans and a tshirt a woman might wear.

Oh, I agree. I've never understood fundies who say jeans are men's clothes, women's jeans are cut differently.

The day I see my husband wearing jeans that hug his hips and butt, a cute fitted top, and ballet flats - THEN I'll be skirts-only.

FWIW - I have worn my husband's jeans and t-shirts, esp. when I was pregnant.

I can't picture him in my jeggings, but we both used to wear classic Levis. I don't have much of a butt and don't like anything tight on the waist, so the men's cut fit better.
