Teri Maxwell attended Josiah's graduation...

No way will JB let any of the girls marry Joseph Maxwell - there is no way any of his daughters will be sloppy seconds with the broken courtship and all.

Plus, I just feel that Joseph is the most like Steve out of all of the sons.

I think that the idea of Mary Maxwell and Josiah might be ok. At least, it would get her the hell out of Maxhell.

Mary would make a great Duggar. She would actually be encouraged to play with hair and makeup, which she enjoys but has to do very carefully in Maxhell. The Duggars are conservative enough for her to feel at home but worldly enough to be positively thrilling for her.

I wonder about the "holier than thou-ness" that must go on when these varying-degree-of-fundies get together. The J-slaves wear their skirts pretty short these days, and show off pedicured nails in flip flops, not to mention they wear buckets of makeup and self tanner, all things Steve eschews for his own women. Does he consider Dim-bulb to be a failure for not exerting enough control, I mean not providing Godly-enough leadership to his family?

And then there's Duggar groupie Lori A, who doesn't do any of the things the Duggars espouse, other than be submissive (and we all know she really isn't). They all think they're doing this Christian thing right, so right that they should be held up as shining examples and tell the rest of us what we're doing wrong.

That's entertainment!

The Maxwells and Duggars go way back - the Duggars were one of the original test families for either scheduling or chore packs, I forget which. Pictures have popped up of the Maxwells socialising with Duggars before - there is a picture floating round from 5 ish years ago of Sarah Maxwell with Jana and Jill.

I really really hope there is no courtship in the works, but it wouldn't completely surprise me. Mary and Josiah could work in a few years. But I hope Jana isn't ever sentenced to Maxhell.

 Yes, this is very true! The families have been "friends" for many years. I know of at least 3 times the Maxwells have been in the Duggar home (pictures posted).

Sarah is way to old for JD. She is 32, he is 24. Mary is way to young for any courtship. Yes, she is turning 18 in August, but she is still a Junior in "high school". At her current rate, she has about 1.5-2 years left of "schooling".

Steve will "use" the Duggar relationship as much as he can to sell his stuffpromote his ministry. Just think of how many potential new 1tonRamp "students" were in that room...

I would think that these families all attend each other's graduations and weddings and other social events partly because it's one of the few opportunities for all the young single people to meet and see if there is any kind of spark.

They home-school and after graduation the boys go into small businesses where they are unlikely to meet any suitable young women. The girls all stay at home and wait for a suitable young man to somehow find the. And they mostly live in very rural small towns, which limits their opportunities to meet new people. They don't go to clubs. Most of them barely allowed to use the Internet. They don't seem to engage in any of the behaviors that lead to meeting a potential spouse. So I'm sure they find any kind of gathering a way to scope out the field. Even if there isn't a potential Maxwell/ Duggar courtship, there were dozens of other young people there.

I have a sinking feeling about Joy here. She doesn't seem very happy with being fundy, so JB can't risk sending her to a worldly family, but she's next to graduate and they presumeably want to marry her off eventually... Maxwells would be a horrible but very "safe" option.

Considering their business is flailing I think even they would be happy to be featured on The Beast for all the money it would bring in.

Interesting thought about Stevie maybe finally bending to the pressure of TV if it meant revitalizing his business. Of course, there would have to be LOTS of precautions taken.

I really do think that JB lets the girls have something of say in who they court, so I really don't see one of them ending up with a Maxwell unless they were interested. I hope that they aren't, since they probably don't have the information they would need to make an informed decision about getting involved with them. Also, I can't imagine any of them going back to the frumper style of NR Anna. The boys, maybe?

Oh no, please let there be nothing behind this.

The only good thing is that Jim Bob listens to his daughters, and I can't see Jana, Jinger or Joy falling for a Maxwell boy. I know they're supposed to discuss bible verses, but they all seem to have a sense of humour and some interest in wordly things, I doubt they would want to marry a Maxwell.

Did Josiah invite the families to his graduation? I was under the impression that he choose a large number of invites and bigger party? I'm sure Michelle or Jim Bob had to approve the list but did Josiah come up with the Maxwell name on his list.

About the hotel room and Steve, I guess the Maxwell's aren't sweet special fellowship friends or they would get a spot in the Duggar house or on the Duggar bus or where ever the Duggar's are putting guests these days.

Joseph is DEFINITELY like Steve. I attended a Maxwell presentation a couple years ago. People submitted questions for the family and at the end of the presentation the family answered them. One question was whether the kids had trouble giving up organized sports. Joseph piped up, "I was never out in the filth so I didn't miss it." I remember thinking, this guy just equated Little League with filth......does anyone else think this is crazy?

He was super arrogant too. MORE arrogant than Steve, if you can believe it.

I'm glad Liz dumped Joe. But could you imagine, after months of marriage, her divorcing him. He parents seem like they would have welcomed her back and there is no way Joe could prevent a divorce. Oh the SCANDAL! How would Steve spin that!

I wouldn't wish a Maxwell boy on my worst enemy. But if it is a Maxwell girl that has eyes on leaving her sad existence via a Duggar boy...then by all means. Anything is a step up from Maxhell.

Why the debate over the motel room?

He just didn't want to spend the money. Teri didn't want him driving back late at night though, because she was afraid of drunk drivers, so Steve got a motel room anyway to set her mind at ease. He presented it as an example of how, just because the man is head of the family, it doesn't mean he should discount his wife's input or be inconsiderate of her concerns. Too bad that wasn't his attitude pre-reversal when Teri begged him not to, or when the children were all small and she pleaded to send them to school because she felt too depressed and overwhelmed to educate them properly.

Is she really only a Junior? I half wonder if Teri is deliberately taking it slow, as being a homeschooling Mum is such a huge part of who she is as a person..

I don't normally play Pair off the Fundies, but here's a thought: Anna Maxwell and JD Duggar. JD generally keeps to himself and stays in the background, so he'd do just fine marrying a quiet, homey type. And he'd probably put his foot down and not let his own family get dragged into the Duggar Dog and Pony show.

Honestly, however, I have no clue what Anna Maxwell is like--what personality she may actually have is pretty much impossible to discern from the family blog. She seems to enjoy cooking (such as it is in Maxhell), and has neither Mary's spark nor Sarah's quiet desperation, and...yeah, that's about it.

I seem to recall that at one time Mary was attempting to graduate early--by age 17. That was a couple of years ago, I think. And there's no reason she couldn't have done it; it's not as if the Maxwells have had a busy conference schedule for the past two years.

Actually, it wouldn't surprise me if Mary's impending graduation got postponed because Teri was having a hard time coping with the end of her "career" as Homeschooling Mom. Not that she's ever done a very good job at it, as her children's poor thinking and writing abilities can attest, but it's a big part of her identity. Given the Maxwells' rapidly waning "ministry" and her anxiety issues, I can see her wanting to hang onto it as long as possible.

And if, as the Moody book summarized on the other thread suggests, the kids are used to dealing with Teri's anxiety and depression by accommodating her and doing extra work, then why wouldn't Mary draw out homeschool graduation as long as possible? It's not as if she's going off to college, or applying for jobs, or has any life plans contingent upon graduation. She'll graduate, there will be a party, and the next day she'll be back to wiping down cupboards and making massive batches of bean burrito filling, and that's what she'll keep doing until she marries or there is some sort of major disruption in their lives. She need never graduate at all, given how little difference it will make in her life.

Don't forget, kids are really, really, really drawn to her, as Sarah has told us many times.

I've always wondered about these things and what Teri's response was. Does she talk about it in her Corners? I've always thought it was cruel of Steve to make these decisions when his wife was so emotionally fragile. He claims to have taken her depression seriously, but his actions say he didn't.

I was re-reading the Corner yesterday where Steve talks about the decision to reverse his vasectomy.

One thing I've always noticed in that piece is not once does he mention Teri's feelings on the subject. He talks about seeking guidance from men in his life, including Teri's father (talk about Patriarchy with a capital P), but nothing about talking it over with Teri.

I'm hoping he inadvertently left that out, but I wonder.
