Family Research Council Says Catholics have better sex.

Recommended Posts

well now we know what this group is all about. pulling up a survey and claiming it is fact. I guess after the exgay thing did not work out it is time to expand. But I doubt they actually think Catholics are real Christians so where does that leave them?

Devout, married Catholics have the best sex of any demographic group, the Family Research Council said at an event Wednesday, pointing to a collection of studies from the last several decades.

The socially conservative Christian group relied heavily on statistics from the University of Chicago's last National Health and Social Life Survey, conducted in 1992, which found the most enjoyable and most frequent sex occurring among married people, those who attended church weekly – any church, whether Catholic or not – and people who had the least sexual partners.

"Those who worship God weekly have the best sex," said Patrick Fagan, a senior fellow at the Family Research Council and a former George H.W. Bush official, in a talk hosted with the Center for the Advancement of Catholic Higher Education Wednesday. "I want to see this on the cover of Playboy sometime."

Well, we're Catholic and we attend church weekly. And I can't argue.

I would say this...I went to Catholic high school and taught in Catholic high school. Contrary to popular belief, Catholic teens are given a much healthier view of sex than their evangelical counterparts. The curriculum used in theology where I taught certainly emphasized abstinence but it also emphasized that sex is good and healthy and nothing to be afraid or ashamed about. So I am not really surprised if young married Catholics truly have better and healthier sex lives than their evangelical counterparts.

I find it hilarious that they site a 1992 study before porn became widely viewed on the internet. I thought the Family Research Council was telling us that porn is a BIG deal in the church and affecting the sex lives of Christians. Which is it? frc.org/onepagers/the-effects-of-pornography-on-individuals-marriage-family-and-community

Is porn not the issue that they have made it out to be?

Does porn not affect marriages?

People who attend church weekly don't look at porn?

I am a little confused with what they are telling me.

Yes this is totally true. I'm a catholic (born in to maybe better) and I totally have the best sex because I'm catholic. I am not married and Mr OK is not catholic, although he has a huge non-catholic dong and knows how to use it, so that helps.

Anyway yeah. It's true. Catholics have the best sex. I just proved it

Uhh... ooookay. I'm a good little Catholic girl but I'll tell you, lazy Sunday without church sex is pretty amazeballs.

I love the "Monogamous people who wait for marriage have the best sex always cause it's the only sex they will ever know." Um, no. That's basically saying they don't know what sex is and whatever they get is what they get.

I will say that sex with my fiance is far better than any I'd ever had but that's because we have such great chemistry and are so in tuned with each other.

ETA: OT, but I wonder what Smugs thinks of having to schill for other faiths.

You know, I have heard that statistic about married religious types being happier with sex over and over again for years now. Assuming it's true (which it may well be... it is a *fat* freaking study and I've only read a small part of it), I always have to ask "So?"

I mean, what is the message that these people are trying to put forth by making these daft press releases? Come for the pervid screwing, stay for the God? Do they think that the sort of person who would embrace religiosity simply in the hopes of a better sex life is the sort of parishioner that they want?

If they aren't trying to recruit lonely, sexually unsatisfied people to religion, why do they have to keep going on about it? Is it just to brag? Because if so, in that spirit, I and my husband are atheists and bone like we invented it.

They're using statistics from a Catholic university. Is it surprising that Catholics came in first place?

The University of Chicago is NOT a Catholic university. Oh, and Catholic boys have always done right by me. :shhh:

Whatever, the worst sex I ever had was with a Catholic guy.

SAME

although in his defense, I was fifteen and he was seventeen, and we were both virgins, and he was too inhibited at the time to really try anything so I got bored with our sexual relationship pretty quickly

BUT WHATEVER SUCK IT FRC

Fundies are completely obsessed with sex and they project their worldview onto everyone else, thus it makes sense to advertise church as a way to have good sex. I think they really believe that this will win them millions of converts.

When I was in middle school (late 90s), my best friend went to a Catholic school she used to show me her books from their "Miracle of Life" class or whatever it was called. The book said that "sex is for procreation, not recreation". That kind of freaked both of us out...I remember I told my mom about that, and she told me that that was nonsense. :) Pretty cool considering she was super-weird about talking about sex.

I'm pretty, um, specific in what I like in the bedroom department. If I had gotten married within fundie Judaism as I once planned, I would never have ended up with a good sex life because sexual compatibility wouldn't have been a consideration in choosing a partner. Just because you love someone deeply and share values doesn't mean that you will have good sex. I guess I'm a big pervert, but I wouldn't still be with my partner after almost 6 years if he hadn't ticked a few boxes early on...

Relying on a survey made in 1992 is not the best way to gage a situation, IMHO. :angry-banghead:

Really, FRC? It was made 21 years ago, fer fuck's sake!!

And yeah, usually groups like these are uber-fundamentalist and consider that Roman Catholics aren't Christians.

Maybe their coffers are getting empty and they think that by releasing this wealthy Catholics will stop to give $$ to their own charitable orgs. and open their cheque-books to the FRC.

Every time the topic of How Great CHRISTIAN SEX IS!!!! comes up I flash back to Ted Haggard in the documentary Jesus Camp (I think that was the title.) He gets a big cheesy grin on his face, dips his wife, and announces to the camera that CHRISTIAN SEX IS THE BEST!!!!!! Then a year later he was discovered having an homosexual affair. So really, Ted? Is CHRISTIAN SEX THE BEST SEX!!!!!!!!?????

Uhh... ooookay. I'm a good little Catholic girl but I'll tell you, lazy Sunday without church sex is pretty amazeballs.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. My husband and I are not Catholics, but both of us were raised in very religious households where getting up early to go spend at least two hours every Sunday in church was mandatory. Sometimes we revel in our freedom to roll around in bed making sloppy wet love Sunday mornings and the slight guiltly feeling makes it more pleasurable for my husband. But then he has a theory that hot sex depends on it being a bit naughty, a bit raunchy. How many good little Christian wives put on red lipstick and sexy lingerie, talk dirty, and use every position in the Kama Sutra? How many of them kiss the pussy juices off their husband's mouths? How many of them have the imagination and the experience to make every encounter feel fresh and exciting?

Sorry. I always thought it was, I guess because Father Andrew Greeley taught there.

I'd like to know their living, first hand samples/examples for non Catholics. My sex life has never been an issue, once I was mature enough to actually understand all it encompasses. I am not Catholic and I've never compared to Catholics or anyone else.

Just more religious bullshit to try to convince people to join up. "Become Catholic, have hot sex".

Only insecure people fall for that crap anymore.

I think the broader question is: Why are these people always so completely and utterly obsessed with sex?

This study was done by the University of Chicago, not the Catholic Church. It is being taken as the Gospel by the FRC, not the Catholic Church. It is not being used as a recruitment tool by the Catholic Church. In fact, I am quite sure those freaks at the FRC have varying degrees of Catholic penis envy over this study. As someone above pointed out, over 80% of the Catholics interviewed admitted to using birth control. They are reaching, and they are holding their noses doing it because it requires them to say something positive about Catholicism.

What the study shows is that there is at least some evidence that this cohort of US Catholics are not as repressed as non religious people like to believe, and they are definitely do not follow the "party line" as much as the Pope or Curia would want. The FRC using this study to try to push the idea that Christians have better sex lives than heathens is pathetic.
