Duggars, Boys and Romance Novels

My sister just lent me a copy of The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty. I haven't had a chance to start reading it yet but it should be interesting. If the Duggar's think a Harlequin Romance novel is porn, I wonder what they would have to say about this book.

The Sleeping Beauty books are interesting. Their minds will probably explode if they read one. I doubt they'd get more than a couple pages in.

I agree.I was soo excited to come across the 6th book. The first 5 I lived so much, and read them each many times.I was very disappointed in #6-the series would have been better left alone as a set of 5.

The Duggar girls may easily come across them. From the outside appearance and inside-flap-descriptions, I can see how they would look informative and educational(which they are), and I can't see Michelle reading every book the girls want to read before they do.It would do the girls some good if those books made it past inspection.

Of course, Jill would probably tattle when she came across it.

I was so exited that the sixth was finally out, and the library had such a long waiting list, so I bought it. I rushed home excitedly, read the first few pages, and threw the book across the room.

I can't do Harlequin type romance with Fabio on the cover, but I enjoy a good romance novel on occasion. I just need a decent plot to go with it. I've been known to curl up with a Nora Roberts or a Sandra Brown book.

Me too! Loved them and learned a lot. They got progressively worse though, the last one was atrocious.

I couldn't even get through the 5th book. So disappointing after getting hooked on the first two and somewhat enjoying the third and fourth. And know who told me to read the books? My dear old dad. And I borrowed them from my grandpa. Guess my family is a bunch of porn-sharing pervs!

My mom was a fan of christian romance novels. I read a few of them, Janette Oke and Grace Livingston Hill come to mind. They were all so tame I don't know how even the Duggars would find them threatening.

Seriously.

Embarrassing story: At our last house we had a sweet couple across the street in their late 70's. I had shared some books with the woman, as she was a voracious reader and couldn't get out much. One time she showed up with a book for me (that turned out to be some ridiculously tame, uber-religious romance) and my husband gave her my loaner copy of Outlander. Anyone familiar with Diana Gabaldon knows that nothing is off-limits and that book (and all of her others), which is historical fiction, is full of sex, sodomy, a very graphic rape scene, etc. I wanted to vomit the whole time she had the book, esp after forcing myself through a few chapters of her book. He, having not read any of the books, thought he was doing a good thing since I've shared that book series with a lot of people. The dear old lady left in on my porch and never looked at me quite the same after that.
