Doug Phillips re-writes history - again

Considering the Tooled ones love affair with the Titanic I honestly expected it to be about that.

I do know my 1860's history quite well so it would be interesting to see what he'd say. I'm too cheap to spend the money on his class though.

Oh, let's start with basic math, please, please, pretty please.

If the Dougie leghumpers teach their children that the Civil War was a FIVE YEAR battle, they have failed from the get-go.

April 1861-April 1865= FOUR YEARS, not five.

.

Maybe Doug's been talking to XGG & Dede. Maybe the strange time games God's playing w/Dede's fetus have spread into the past, too. It's a miracle!

I've long suspected that Vision Forum were Confederate sympathizers. It is good that this is coming more to light because it will turn off some potential members who would be attracted by tea parties, male bravado and costumes. Dougie and his crew do give of an air of imagined superiority to us plebeians. I'm sure owning slaves would make Doug the happiest tool on the planet.

They are Confederate sympathizers, without a doubt. Dougie's stopped doing so more recently but he used quote a lot admiringly from Robert Lewis Dabney (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Lewis_Dabney). Here is his "Ode to Dabney," written after giving a speech on this pro-slavery, "Christian" conservative: visionforum.com/news/blogs/doug/default.aspx?path=/2004/07/793/

There were also a number of leg-humping hero-worshipping blog entries for Otto Scott (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otto_Scott) like this one, which co-stars VF buddy Matt Chancey: visionforum.com/news/blogs/doug/default.aspx?path=/2004/10/867/

And then there's this little gem, discounted in price perhaps, but still promoted by VF: visionforum.com/browse/product/robert-lewis-dabney-the-prophet-speaks/default.aspx

As an aside, the August 2004 entries for Doug's Blog have a ton of photos & copy on an early NCIFC conference where you'll see a number of A-List fundies (including Kelly Bradrick before she began her career as a baby machine) and the Morton family (visionforum.com/news/blogs/doug/default.aspx?path=/2004/08/830/). It gives you an idea of just how long some of these people have been swilling the VF/patriocentric/Christianist kool-aid.

Finally, twin2, this one is for YOU, missy: visionforum.com/news/blogs/doug/default.aspx?path=/2004/05/729/:

Nellie Oleson is and shall remain the quintessential example of a spoiled brat and the personification to our little ones of what it means to grow up without a strong father and the regular application of the rod to one’s posterior.

Finally, twin2, this one is for YOU, missy: visionforum.com/news/blogs/doug/default.aspx?path=/2004/05/729/:

:shock:

Apparently, about a dozen episodes into the season, my three daughters had gotten together and decided that Nellie Oleson was surely the naughtiest little girl who had ever been born. After all, who could be naughtier than Nellie Oleson?

Faith joins the conversation: “Nellie Oleson is a wicked little girl. She deserves twelve spankings, maybe even a million googleplex spankings†(please don’t think my little Faith is a sadist, this is just her way of translating what she hears from her Daddy’s talk on biblical mathematics into her four-year-old vision of a remedy for an undisciplined child).

Come to think of it, I seem to remember being equally outraged by Nellie when I was a young teenager. (Though I think at the time my solution for her bad attitude was a little less charitable and restrained than my daughters’. If I remember correctly, it had something to do with a pair of scissors and her golden locks, a pond of mud and her pretty dresses, and a good swift kick in the tuchus.)

Nellie Oleson is and shall remain the quintessential example of a spoiled brat and the personification to our little ones of what it means to grow up without a strong father and the regular application of the rod to one’s posterior.

:shock: This guy could make a post about oatmeal sound like (bad) BDSM erotica.

Doug Phillips is a tool. :music-tool:

Of course, clearly he only knows Nellie Olsen from TV because the REAL Nellie had a terribly sad ending to her auspacious career as a bratty child. Her father lost his business, they starved, and they show up in a later book as much different people than what she was in her first appearance in the books. It's only on Michael Landon's TV that she never gets better until she is "tamed" by a Jewish cook from New York City.

He's just doing it for the hoop skirts.

Doug Phillips is a tool of epic proportions.

If someone could photoshop Doug Phillips is a tool in a hoop skirt and saying, "Fiddle dee dee" I would be eternally grateful.

I have some questions already:

1. After they show the series, and if they want to present it again or sell it on DVD, will they change the title to reflect that the history is no longer 'Untold'?

2. What might registration space be limited to for this online course and why wouldn't it be assigned on a first come, first served basis? Also, what is meant by 'space'?

3. Is the $48 fee per person, per family, or per however many are interested and can fit in front of a screen? Why doesn't it say?

4. What will a 'distinctly Christian' understanding of this war provide that a non-distinctly Christian understanding won't? Isn't war unChristian?

5. Why is there no mention of satisfaction guaranteed or your money cheerfully refunded, or something similar? Is it implied?

I'm confused by the same things. In fact, I don't even understand the economics of this at all. So he is showing some video on line every week but only a limited number of subscribers are allowed? Why? This makes no sense. Is it like those valuable "Limited Edition Plates" that the Franklin Mint churns out-- hoping to make the video (or plate) more valuable by limiting the number of suckers, er...I mean customers who are "allowed" to pay for the experience?

The first broadcast of this 7-week series airs online at 8:00 p.m. (EDT) on May 9. Registration space is limited and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis, so sign up before we sell out!

Sign Up for “The Untold History of America’s Civil War†— Just $48!

So 7 hours of a boring, shitty, lecture on video or as Doug refers to it: " seven riveting, engaging, interactive classes[...]Perfect for Junior High and High School Students" for about $7.00 an hour. How many people are going to pay for this and then drop out after the first one? I can easily imagine some deluded homeschooling parent thinking this would be a great gift for their kid.

But Designed to Delight the Entire Family

wow...those 2004 archives are something else. He really is crazy in a scary way. I do take heart that in almost ten years the world has changed and hasn't gone the way he wants it to. His rants on women in the military, tattoos, Sandra Day O Connor and so on are off the wall. How anyone listens to this man and gives him money is beyond me.

MAJOR families are at those conferences: Servens, Thomases, Stinetts, Botkins, Mortons, Browns, etc. Interesting how many of them have so many children now. That is a little frightening in only 10 years.

*Smacks my forehead in disbelief*

What always annoys me are people who have some semblance of intelligence, yet choose to skew the actual facts in order to make their case. For those who choose not to educate themselves on the facts or simply are "low intelligent voters" [ha, right back at you GOP], this type of rhetoric makes all those involved "safe" with their ideals that are simply hiding [or attempting to hide] their racism, sexism, and general stupidity.

Oh, and Doug Phillips is a tool. :music-tool:

More from the Nellie article:

“And her momma is a mean woman too,†chimes in Liberty. “I think Mrs. Oleson is like Jezebel because she won’t listen to her husband, Daddy.â€

“She’s bossy,†says Faith.

“Just like Nellie,†says Jubilee.

“I like her daddy,†said Liberty, “But he doesn’t really lead his family.â€

These kids are doomed from birth. There only purpose in life is to obey a man. :roll:

I can't believe this man calls himself a Christian. War of Northern Agression? I know that the north had slaves back then; but that still doesn't give people the right to own each other. Aren't wars started mostly by men shedding blood? I thought that men were supposed to be Christ-like, Mr. Tool and obey the 10 commandments as Jesus told us. Oh, wait, you're fundamentalist Puritanical Paulists disguised as Christians.

Doug Phillips is a tool. And he's re-writing history with a little help from his friends. This landed in my mailbox today.

Every time I read one of Doug (Phillips who is a tool)'s pronouncements, I have an overwhelming urge to reach through the computer screen and slap him (or whichever intern writes his blog for him. Hi, interns!)

Doug Phillips, you tool: using big words doesn't make you seem intelligent or authoritative. It makes you sound like a pompous, smug asshole who uses language to make his readers think what he is saying must be important and valid because you "sound educated". You can, and do, disguise a lot of ignorant drivel with the liberal use of a thesaurus, which doesn't require a college education to use. Are you trying to attract a "better" sort of audience, perhaps--say, people who fancy themselves to be as educated and "cultured" as you imply you are, and who might have the free time and extra money to run off on random Hazardous Journeys with you? Trying to impress readers with your firm, manly, patriarchal grasp of history, politics, social issues and literature by peppering your essays with lots of syllables, adjectives, and liberal use of hyperbole? Not working. Sorry.

Doug Phillips is a tool. I'd look up a multisyllabic synonym for "tool" in the thesaurus, but it wouldn't change the underlying fact that Doug Philiips is a tool. Plus, this would involve getting off the couch to reach the thesaurus, and, frankly, Doug Phillips (who is a tool) is not worth the time or energy this would involve.

Edited to add: Doug Phillips is an accoutrement? No, that doesn't sound right...

This is Doug's ode to Dabney. Seriously, what the fucking hell? He is using words like Yankee and carpet bagger to describe people who move to the south from the North.

Ode to Dabney

We must remember Thornwell, Palmer, Girardeau —

All Southern men who preached with power, unity, and flow;

But when it comes to logic pure there’s one that tops our list:

Hail Dabney, prophet of the South, our great apologist.

Geneva had its Calvin, Rome its Augustine,

England had is Cromwell to fight the libertine;

But in our land there was but one who dared to turn the tide

Of reconstructionistic zeal and yankeedom’s foul pride.

The feminist, the plutocrat, the wiley carpetbagger,

The Darwinist, the bureaucrat, and transcendental braggart;

The scalawag, the suffragette, the surly Statist simp

Were by your pen defrocked, exposed, and wounded, left to limp.

The solomonic wisdom from your pugilistic pen

Has rendered impotent the creeds of far less noble men;

And with a keen, perceptive flair that exceeds Nostradamus,

Your prophesies have proven wrong each foolish doubting Thomas.

You make us leave our comfort zone and re-engage the battle,

Content no more to tolerate the sophomoric prattle

Of Socialists, Republicrats, and those who compromise;

No longer may we coddle them or listen to their lies.

And so with joy we doff our hats and shout from every mouth:

Hail Dabney, wise apologist, defender of the South!

If anyone here is curious about why writing an ode to Dabney is so vile, here is a link to a wordy piece by the Confederate soldier explaining why the Golden Rule does not mean that you can not own slaves.

http://confederatereprint.com/golden_rule.php

Apparently, Doug has read the man's writings and still writes love poetry to him. Not only is he a tool but he is far more evil than I imagined

On one day, they traveled together to Lexington and visited the grave of Stonewall Jackson. This picture was taken at the moment that Mr. Scott commented: “A handsome edifice—-It marks the end of southern civilization.â€

My mind is reeling. "Southern Civilization"? What the hell? He makes it sound as if the south is an entirely different country.

One thing that I like about Free Jinger is that we break this stuff down so that we can see the ugly underneath the pretty facade.

Because I had not idea who Otto Scott was, I found this article

Otto Scott also wrote a book, "Other End of the Life Boat," defending apartheid in South Africa and denouncing the opponents of apartheid as neo-abolitionists and intellectual descendents of the opponents of slavery and the Confederacy. The introduction was excerpted and published in the Southern Partisan, Vol. 5 No. 1, Winter 1985, page 30. Scott was part of the Southern Partisan anti-anti-apartheid movement.

OK, I understand that by SOTDRT rules "intellectual descendants" of anything are bad. But "opponents of slavery"? That's a bad thing because, what, they're socialist (i.e., pro-big government)? Actually I'm sure this genius has an argument that proves opponents of slavery are the real racists.

Oh, I hate these people.

My fundie aunt (God bless her, she never gives up hope I'll return to the fold) sometimes sends me fundie materials and also subscribed me to Above Rubies. For Christmas, she gave me a gift certificate to Vision Forum which I'm sure no one here would be surprised to learn I haven't used. If I blow it on the Civil War series, I would only have to spend a small amount of my own funds to make up the difference.

Shall I watch so you don't have to?

Okay. I took the plunge and signed up a little bit ago. I'll try to share the wealth of knowledge I accumulate watching Mr. Potter pontificate.

I'll also try to have my commentary done in complete sentences. Since I plan to have some wine with my book learning, we'll see how that goes!
