Why not just say "It's a pumpkin that some people carve into funny shapes" if you don't want to get into the backstory? And if you wanted to discourage the kids from asking to do it themselves, you could say "Some people like it but in our family we don't think it's right to do that. The pumpkin could be scary and we don't think that makes God happy." Or "pleases God" for older kids.

Hell, they should try explaining things to Small. Why do men have nipples, was a question which troubled her for ages. (To be honest, I'm not sure about this myself.)

I think I can help you out on this one. In utero we all start out as girls, so to speak. The lucky ones get to stay girls, and the less fortunate have to become boys due to the work of the Y chromosome. Nipples are a reminder of what could have been. ;)

That is what I told my children when they ask about men nipples. Well, not the could have been part. More alone the lines of a biological fact of development.

I especially love the little touch of the bat flying above them. I'm really tempted to make that my Halloween work desktop background...but there's probably laws against that :lol: :lol: :lol:

A pumpkin is just a type of squash. You can carve into it but you could carve "ungodly" scenes into a unripe tomato, or an apple or a watermelon. Gives me an idea for a backyard cookout. Wait until I bring out my ungodly watermelon!

The bat totally puts it over the top, I agree. Although it's impossible for my mind not to go to the porny place and imagine that a smoke bomb's about to go off and the bat's about to "transform" into a hot guy with plastic fangs who ends up topping both of the other guys.
