Trump 51: The Lame Duck a l‘Orange

I haven't listened to the tape because I can't stand the sound of Trump's voice, but Chris Murphy makes an excellent point:

When you single-handedly redeem Richard Nixon by making the Nixon tapes look like a blip on the screen...

Also, can't stop laughing at the people pearl-clutching over someone recording the call.

1. It was a freaking work call, not a late night soul baring session with his BFF.

2. If I was on a call with the POTUS (Obama, Trump, or other) about a highly contentious political and legal issue, you bet your ass I'd record it to cover my ass.

3. I live in a one party consent state like Georgia and have recorded many phone calls (often because I need a quote for an article and want to make sure I have it correct, other times when a job was going south and I didn't trust my managers to not lie about what was said). It's not a big deal at all. I imagine plenty of people have recorded me on work calls.

After Nov 3 there was speculation that DJT would actually resign during the Lame Duck period, in order to allow "President Pence" enough time to pardon him (Trump) before Biden takes office.

As time went on I started to forget that option, as it seemed less and less likely given Trump's actions in pursuing the failed win.

Until today and that phone call.

Now I will not be at all surprised if I wake up tomorrow morning to find that Trump is resigning.  He just accumulated a few extra reasons to want that pardon.

Ah the Accomplice Awards... The medal of presidential freedom is given to people who helped the President to stay out of jail?

Any medal given out by Trump is not something to be proud of. Nor will it prevent recipients from being litigated for their crimes.

It's sad how Twitler has cheapened so many of our major honors by giving them to his buddies and sycophants. We've gone from wonderful people like Katherine Johnson to the treasonous cowpoke and Gym receiving the Medal of Freedom.

He also gave one to Rush Limbaugh so there's that...

I read this morning that Trump had called Raffensperger a couple of dozen times before this.  He finally took the call so he was pretty sure that Trump would be pressuring him and he was ready.  There are some people, taking into account the sound quality of the call, that think it was recorded from the White House and released by someone from there.  Trump and his group sound louder than Raffensperger and Germany.  I don't know enough about recordings to come down on either side.

Did anyone else catch that Trump said he liked Ryan Germany's last name?  Trump is such a child.

There also seems to be a feeling that some people will benefit from and/or abuse the system, and it will be at the expense of other, "more deserving" people, as well as a "why should I pay for other people to have something that's not benefiting me?" feeling.

This is basically the entire core of many Trump supporter's political position, here. They don't want their money to go to help anyone they don't personally consider "deserving".

These are the kind of people who, when they die, people will say "Oh, he'd give you the shirt off your back if you needed it!" which is true in a one-on-one situation for many of them - if they know you, or feel you deserve help.

However, these are also often the same people who will mock you if you give a dollar to a homeless person, refuse to support charities they feel are giving "handouts", and go on and on about how welfare is full of fraud because they know of a friend of a friend who once took advantage of it somehow. They are the ones who go on about "bootstraps" and "just get a job!" and "quit being lazy!"

I have personally had many long discussions with a guy who will give to the humane society but will not donate even a dollar to Habitat for Humanity because he thinks people "just shouldn't let themselves get in that situation of needing that kind of help" and should "get a job and save money like everybody else".

That's why so many Republicans and especially Trumplicans call any sort of social safety net "socialism" - they have an "us against them" mentality and like to say stuff like "well once I was in a tight spot and there was no help for me!"

They only want to help people they don't think are "lazy". And they think everyone else is lazy.

(And of course, many of them are also racist - people of color are inherently undeserving or lazy in their opinion... except their one black co-worker who "isn't like most of those people." or maybe their Mexican housekeeper who is "so hard working!")

Not related to politics, and it’s borderline tabloid clickbait ... but a Florida politician wants to shut Mar-a-logo down. Apologies if this has already been posted. I checked back a few pages and didn’t see anything but it could be days old news.

Can they be revoked?

Trump's awardees need to be listed in with an asterisk, as is done for athletes' records. The asterisk should lead to a note at the bottom of the page that says:

* awarded by Trump, so . . . you know . . . bullshit.

There are signs that Trump may be heading to Scotland. That’s all we need.

Although we’re back in lockdown so I’d love to see him in trouble for breaking it by playing golf or something.

We need snow, lots of it and quickly. Hopefully that will delay his flight/cause the plane to have to land hundreds of miles away from Prestwick. (Preferably in a small hardly heard about airport somewhere not in Europe).  Gritters all busy elsewhere. Turnberry staff unable to travel to work. Any other Gremlins required to prevent him from arriving.

*disclaimer no human being injured during the entire fiasco.

Yeah so much for that plan

Quote

Donald Trump will not be allowed to visit Scotland to play golf during Joe Biden's inauguration, Nicola Sturgeon has said.

The US president, who was overwhelmingly defeated in November's election, is reportedly considering travelling to his Turnberry golf resort to avoid Mr Biden being sworn into office.

But Scotland's first minister stressed it is illegal to travel in or out of the country without a valid reason and said: "Coming to play golf is not what I would consider to be an essential purpose."

Maybe he could go visit his pal Boorish Johnson but I doubt the Brits want him around either.

Oh, how that must sting, being told by a woman he's not allowed to come!

He's got to find a place where "escaping from possible treason charges" is considered an "essential" reason to travel. So... Russia and North Korea are probably top two options, here.

The ideal would be to have him on Air Force One during the inauguration, and right at noon boot him out the door (with a parachute strapped on) in the general vicinity of an uninhabited atoll somewhere.

This is hilarious. I really, really want him to show up, violate laws and get publicly kicked out of Scotland while being hit with heavy fines. I suspect he thinks he can keep claiming he is president and getting special treatment. Reality is going to hit him hard.

Nicola Sturgeon  our first minister and all round feisty gal said this afternoon that visiting his Golf Course is not a good enough reason for him to enter Scotland during full lock down. :cracking-up::cracking-up::cracking-up:
