You know, I missed that. Either it was before my time, during my long FJ hiatus, or the more recent stretch where I avoided the Duggar forum like some people avoid the Nauglers'. :pb_lol:

I avoid the Duggars too - I have NEVER EVEN SEE THE SHOW-  and I only go over there when some Duggarluvver is being obnoxious and needs an ear boxing. This was before the Joshly Madison scandal - someone mentioned it and we started a thread on it. HILARIOUS!

I thought the Maxwells weren’t allowed friends. Who are the friends that helped plant the strawberries?

Now that they are all out of their teens, Steeri probably trust them not to become beguiled by The World.

Also the vetting for suitability thing.

It is all I can do not to drive Leavenworth, knock on the Fathership’s  door and invite Poor Sarah to the coffeehouse downtown, where I’d ply her with peppermint mochas or whatever and gently coach her through rewriting the first few sentences of the strawberries abomination.

I check myself by the reminder that PS really doesn’t want to write. It’s simply the role assigned her by Tereve.

Message to all immediate family Maxwells: buy your own darned pickup. Or borrow John’s.

I promised to stay away from Maxland til this evening. Couldn’t stand it, ventured over, regret it.  If I post again before 8 pm CST, somebody chide me.

Ok ok ok ladies please stop with this almost 40. She’s 36. She’s in her mid 30s she’s YEARS off from 40.

She’s also a year older than me and I may be taking this personally ;)

Around here, she’d be described as “on the backside of 30,” not that I listen to country music anymore.

Talk of “middle-aged” reminded me of the first time I really perplexed  BIgMamaJB.. She was 35 and I said “That’s middle-aged, right? Not old like 50, not young like 20.”

I was 11 and truly asked in all innocence! “Old like 50.”  Ah, she and I will have a laugh over that one when I get to where she’s gone!!!

I'm guessing all "friends" are "family" friends and are all cult members.

I wonder if Sarah knows that 35 year old women buy themselves trucks all the time--no note from Dad required.

I wonder if Sarah is allowed to have her own checking account? Is she paid a salary from the family business, or does she get an allowance, or just get direct earnings from her books?

I can't see any of the Maxwell daughters as mothers. They all just seem so young and childlike to me as it is.

The city's compost dirt is really bad. I messed up by putting that horrible stuff in my garden. Big mistake. It is free, but also has bad stuff in it like glass and nails.  The soil around here is river valley from the Mo. river and it can get clay-like if it compacted down from foot traffic. The soil has very high iron, as does the water.  If they want to enrich the soil for free they can get horse manure on post.  Steve is military retired and he can go on post and use all the facilities there. He can get horse manure for free on post. The city also gives out free mulch which is all kinds of wood including diseased wood and lumber scraps. When will they be using the free mulch since they love mulch? I wish they read on the internet on how to build a raised bed. A first try attempt that I would not announce to the world.  They have master gardeners in the area that are more than willing to help.  Perhaps they could grind out the stump in the yard?

Going to say something nice, they do have on nice skirts in the trumpet style. The moose shirts are funny.

Since the dad is retired military, they can go on post. There are single men on post that are eligible fundie types. They go to prayer groups. The daughters are the right age to marry a major.  Post has a nice gym, a pool, and and coffee. Coffee is clever and inviting. I don't know why they don't go to the commissary on the bulk sale days. Post has a nice pool so they don't have to jump in puddles. The city has a nice pool as well.

I am fairly sure they live off of dad's retirement check. It should come in around 60 thousand. There are many nice trucks for sale used from the internet in our area. There are also vehicles for sale on post. I do not know how handy these people are with vehicles.  You know what they say, if a man drives an old truck and is patient and fixes it, you know he will be patient and kind enough to put up with your nonsense.

Since they are military retired the mom is on Tricare. The mom needs pain management. For the first time in a very long time, Leavenworth has a pain management doctor who does injections at Cushing hospital and accepts Tricare.  The mom also needs to see someone for her other stress-related issues, and there are plenty of people for her to visit here in town. I think she doesn't get help because Steve doesn't like it. It takes the spotlight off his wonderful world of wonderfulness.  I don't see any excuse for the mom not get help for her back and depression. I could talk about this for a while, but I will say that mental health is serious and should not be dismissed as female problems or some other excuse.

They don't use Tricare, they use Samaritan Ministries. Because Tricare you know, pays for stuff they don't believe in. Unfortunately, SM doesn't cover any metal health at all and are sketchy at best for pain management.

Steve and Terri don't use Samaritan because they don't qualify for it.  Pre-existing conditions I believe.

Is Steve really retired military?  I didn't think he put in 20 years.  He served maybe one tour I thought.

Anna and Mary are wearing those moose tops again. Maybe they're specifically worn for messy/digging in dirt type work.

Do they have any insurance at all then? They pay out of pocket for everything?  That would kinda make sense with their whole daily super fitness regimen and bland eating- it’s prob because they are trying to avoid ever having to go to the doctor or take medications that most 60 year olds take.  Steve definitely didn’t put in 20 years, so while he would qualify for VA healthcare benefits, his family wouldn’t. And his adult kids wouldn’t either, even if he had put in 20 years.

Weird that they *bought* mulch for decorative gardens,  but are using nasty-ass mulch —just because it is free — on a crop the family members will eat.

Granted, the decorative plants  benefit bees, birds & butterflies. But I’d give my humans at least the quality of raw materials  I’d give my pollinators.  And yes, what is with a raised bed on only two sides? Maxies slacking? Can it be? Are they regretting that Father & Mother made that trip to the dump a few weeks back? No wood?

This.

The off-spring use Scamaritan and both Nathan and Chris have endorsed it.  Both Steve and Teri were turned down by Scam because of pre-existing conditions that they did not specify.  There's a post on it somewhere.

Looking at the dates, Steve only did one tour.  He was back, in college, and getting married in 1974, at the age of 23.  Teri was only 19 when they got married.

They might pay out of pocket, but Steve may also pay for some kind of health insurance.  He's very bourgeois for a Fundie.

I don’t know why they are calling that a raised garden bed. . . It looks like they just leveled an area and braced it on one side with *scrap* wood. I’m just being snarky because I am building a raised garden bed similar to this:39C2CC09-B3E4-48ED-A50C-AFFF97F27080.jpeg.6285badbae934fe33f74601a101d3276.jpeg

With all their free time it completely baffles me why they are unable to do anything remotely impressive.

It looks like they put three sides on the garden patch and didn’t think they needed the fourth because they made it on an incline. I’m guessing that won’t turn out well but they may get lucky.

Sarah is channeling Taryn in the comments:

Yes, we have great neighbors!  Ellie is quite a hit in the area, and we have lots of good talks! Courgettes is a summer squash or zucchini.

Courgettes are, sweetie.  It's a plural.

Yup, Sarah is baffling with BS.  Maybe she can't access online grammatical rules?

Steve likely has Medicare now.  He's turning 66 or 67 this fall isn't he? I think he'll be 67.

Yes.  He was born in 1951.  OTOH, he is not obliged to sign up for it.

Did Steve retire from Boeing in Seattle? If he was 55 at early retirement Boeing paid his and the family’s insurance until he turned 65, then he could purchase his through their group. Mr. 3D retired at 55 and they paid ours until each of us reached 65. We have paid for their supplemental since then. It ain’t cheap!!! But it is a great thing for those of us who have pre-existing conditions that aren’t inexpensive to treat. I don’t know how that would cover or covered the younger ones though.

I believe Steve is old enough for Medicare, so maybe that's his insurance?  Not sure if Teri is old enough.

I do hope they have some sort of insurance.  It's a huge gamble being without medical insurance in the U.S.

ETA: Sorry, I didn't realize @Coconut Flanbrought this up a few posts above.

No shit! Fortunately there are sliding scale clinics here. I pay 70 bucks to see my shrink. Meds are another 30 thanks to GoodRx. There's also a dental clinic that offers services for free to veterans (hubby is a vet). I can go there too but it'd cost about 100 bucks for a cleaning. But, I live in fear of getting really sick or hurt. We'd be up shit's creek.

They've already had four (?) grandkids in the NICU, which costs about as much as sending the kid to college. Really hoping Scamaritan paid for that. Or did they release an e-book called Having a Baby Debt-Free?

I now live in the UK, and while I'm slacking on getting an annual physical lined up (because the rest of my month is crazy busy), I'm so grateful that I now have the NHS. The last time I had to go to the doctor here, my appointment was free (in the US even with my very good work-provided insurance, it's at least $25 to see a doctor, more for urgent care or a specialist) and all I had to pay was about 10 bucks for a pack of antibiotics. I looked so pleasantly surprised that the nurse at the desk said "between the accent and the look on your face, I'd guess you're American".

The Mother's day post is up! It is actually quite sweet, with lots of old photos.

The grammatical errors, on the other hand, are totally cringe worthy. Sarah really is a terrible writer.

Anna and young Teri could be twins, they look so much alike.  Sarah was a gorgeous child and Nathan and Priss didn't have the crazy eyes yet.
