We get very heavy rains in the summer and autumn months so we do need to replenish mulch every year.  Generally more than once a year.  But 100 bags does seem like an awful lot of mulch.

Is her yard really that big?  And isn't most of it grass?

They're always in a battle with Satan, so maybe he takes it?

"Satan stole my mulch" should really be a post count title.

totally off topic but the whole behind the counter thing made me think of something that happened about four years ago. me and some friends went into a dollar store because one friend needed a pregnancy test. we looked all over and couldn't find them. So we asked a cashier. Turns out people kept stealing them so they had to be put behind the counter.

What they choose to lock up gets weirder and weirder. Here in the wonderful world of Oz... its our chocolate! Chocolate so good it needs to be locked up ahahahahaha. They used to put dvd's in these cases. Those are now running free because apparently thief's prefer chocky!

When I worked as a checkout operator they had to move those pore cleansing strips behind the counter because people aparently wanted to try them but not pay for them.

Chocolate though is so cheap I'm surprised. Then again I watched someone steal a newspaper ($2 at the time) from McDonalds, so yeah some people will nick anything they think they can get away with.

I've never been asked about medications.   One of my other sons drive into Canada more than my husband and I do, and for some reason, he is routinely asked to pull over

Apparently being a younger male, especially travelling single, puts you on the "high risk" category for doing *something*. Perhaps that is why he gets pulled over more than you do? Maybe have him test travelling with a girlfriend/female companion and see if they stop him.

I just came here to say that "wheelbarrow" is not a verb.

Fundies  like to change non-verbs into verbs--for example, "purposed."  Now we can add "wheelbarrowed" to the list.

Here's the thing -- how are all the boys finding these cheap, affordable houses within the Stevehovah-approved neighborhood? Not just in the neighborhood, but within 2 or 3 blocks from the fathership.

The houses become vacant because their inhabitants find out just who the Maxwells are, and can't get out fast enough.

After mulching, they had pizza. I assume it was limited to one slice per person, with two pepperoni pieces on each slice.

Pepperoni?  No, no, no pepperoni--must have that Christian symbol of fish, therefore, it's 2 anchovies per slice.

I detest anchovies.

Do the Maxhellians buy the mulch for ALL the homes? In that case, I can see 100 bags.. but wouldn't it be cheaper to buy it by the truckload instead?

I've based my thought on our home. In our less than one acre, Mr. Four buys up to 20 bags of mulch, 35-40 pounds each, every year. He mulches the entire way around our house, which is surrounded by bushes, and he mulches all the trees, of which there are  8.  One tree takes more than one bag of mulch..

Mulch decomposes quickly. In winter, you can see by the way the snow melts in  the mulched areas. It's warm there, even under snow.. So yes, we buy up to 20 bags of mulch for our modest home every year.

Now, internet is free-range but Teri and Steve get an email EVERY DAY with every single site that their adult children have been on. These adults can have NO secrets. They can't google "why does my butt crack itch" or look up a crush they once spotted at a bible conference without their parents knowing. It's the modern-day equivalent of having your parents read your diary.

They were always physically trapped in Maxhell but I think this new extent of KGB spying brings the control to another level.

I've followed the Maxwells for a while now and thought I'd seen it all, but I just can't get over this.

I'm not even thinking of looking at anything risque (which is still none of Steve and Teri's damn business since their kids are all adults). Sarah Maxwell-- a 36 year old woman-- cannot check WebMD to see if she may have a yeast infection, read an inspirational Christian essay about prolonged singleness, teach herself more about the Syria crisis through some New York Times articles, or God forbid interact with others on social media without both of her parents knowing, and I'm sure weighing in at her "transgressions."  The mind reels. This is the stuff of abuse, in my opinion.

And the thing is, Jesus has absolutely nothing to do with this. Jesus sent young single adults, men and women, into dangerous missions fields to preach the Gospel. The apostles as depicted in Acts weren't exactly hothouse flowers.

I haven't looked at porn or anything particularly risque in a long time, but goddamn if any of you are going to review my Google searches.  In the Internet age, that's more powerful that controlling someone's bank accounts.

And the worst is — she would tell you that she is most blessed because her parents Care So Much. They’ve decided they don’t need to know about Syria beyond what they hear in the grocery checkout line; if she has symptoms, she will pray that G-d leads her to consult whatever kind of health care practitioner they use; and “inspirational christian essay”!!?? Great Rufus! Are you seriously saying that Sarah should be. exposed to anything but The Holy Bible (KJV Only) or what she or her parents have written? She could get — the wrong ideas!

Thats why Steve infamously sniffed that they don’t read — they write! Because no one else has the information right and no one else can teach them.

Abusive, indeed — but not to PSarah’s mind.

I am not sure Sarah would know what terms to use to find out if she had a yeast infection.I saw a show over the weekend where it talked about how the Turpin kids didn’t know what police officer, medicine or pills meant. I don’t think Sarah or her siblings are anywhere near that level of lack of knowledge but I do wonder if we take for granted they would know the little things even regular children even know. I can’t imagine them using the word vagina or reading any science books that mention it. I would think that is an area you just don’t talk about.

Poor Sarah: "If you observe this photo and then scroll down to Sunday’s post, you’ll see what I’m talking about."

Okay.  I did just that.  So what the hell is she talking about?

That's what I thought. I looked at both posts and thought "I don't get it".

I thought about asking in a comment, but I knew I'd just get a snarky response from Steve, so whatever.

Some of the top results for "itching in my loins" (at least on my unblocked internet) include Reddit and Buzzle.

@socalrules, it wouldn't surprise me at all if the Maxwell kidults are pretty much kept in the dark till they're about to be married.  No need for them to know anything other than the girls getting the "curse" and boys having wet dreams is there?

One of my mother-in-law's aunts in 1930s England got pregnant out of wedlock and had not a clue about how she got that way.  It turned out that one of her grandsons was the spit and image of the village roue from the 30s.

Remember the song "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" from The Sound of Music?  There's a line that says "eager young lads, roues [with an accent over the e] and cads".  A roue is a term for a skirt-chaser.

Years ago someone posted on a board I frequent about trying to find a video of a chimp that scratches his bum and then.....anyway, he googled "monkey butt sniff video" and it popped right up.  You can view it here.  It does remain hilarious, even after all these years.

She really can't convey her thoughts at all. But the picture in the mulch post shows Jessie taking a picture of the kids which was used in the Sunday post. Why she worded it like that is beyond me. It makes no sense. None. But this is the Maxwells and they do weird shit.

Mulch post showing Jessie taking a picture of the kids.

@Flossie,  it took me forever to understand that line from "Sixteen Going On Seventeen".  I had no idea what they were talking about!  Roue may not be common parlance any more (and maybe never was) but maybe it should be revived.   Or maybe not.

@dripcurl I think I remember hearing the Duggars say that the internet passwords and stuff are controlled by the women of the home since men would be too tempted to look at porn and then erase the evidence. I suspect the same about the Maxhells.

Thanks! Wow. I was hoping it was something more respectful like the dad doesn't want to daughters to feel embarrassed about googling female health info and the like but no, these guys just have zero control of themselves and total control of their families. So sad.

I hate that I am saying this, but why does Steve not get the kids' (adults') reports?

I believe the web history report control chore goes to Terie and Steve just gets hers so someone is keeping her accountable too.

I’m surprised since Steve seems to be the ultimate control freak, maybe reading thru them stresses him out.
