Birth Location

Birth location: on the toilet, at JoKen's wedding

Josh's location: Sitting in the pew, using Meredith to hide his face from TLC cameras

So, I'm going to put this here because I'm going to be gone most of the day and it's my luck that Anna will have little Moby while I'm gone. So updated list! :)

Speaking of Degrassi: The Next Generation, I bet the kids of today who are listening to Drake don't remember him when his name was still Aubrey and he was playing Jimmy in a wheelchair. Ahhh, the good old days.

@PumaLover How'd the hair turn out?!

I'll also add in Puff the Magic Dragon, I can't remember the names of any of the German stuff we watched, but I think they were fairy tale based. I think my mother's tactic to keep from driving herself insane with us wanting to watch the same thing back to back, again and again was a rule that we had to watch something in German in between if it was a tv allowed day.

I remember choosing carefully, watch the sad German Little Mermaid version based on the original story first, then get happy by watching Disney's version.

I got in trouble at summer camp when I was 9 or so for singing Poisoning Pigeons in the Park at a talent show. I was raised on Tom Lehrer, and it kind of explains everything.

When I was little my mom begged me not to play Vatican Rag for my friend.  She was a devote Catholic.

IT'S HOWDY DOODY TIME!!

I know very few of you can remember THAT show, with Cowboy Bob and the snake...

I also (vaguely) remember Circus Boy, with a young Mickey Dolenz with blonde hair..

And I can proudly say I watched the debut show of Sesame Street. My SIL was in the room with us, and she was dumbfounded.

Oh, and a show called Shrinky Dinks, where you could send away for an overlay to put on your tv screen so you could copy things off the screen... my mother never let us get those...

And the original Mousketeers...

Me! I adored Mr. Green Jeans.

And wanted SO MUCH to look like Annette!

How about the show with Buffalo Bob? He did a nostalgia college tour when I was in school - one of my best memories of those years.

Love the thread drift!

I loved Rugrats and so did my mum lol we would watch it together when I was growing up. Also loved Kim Possible, As Told By Ginger, Hey Arnold!, Bananas in Pyjamas, Pengu, That's so Raven and Lizzie McGuire.

Does anyone remember the animated version of Sabrina the Teenage Witch? It was my absolute favourite!

I loved Rugrats too! The music drive my mom nuts though. And I remember the Sabrina animated series! Loved both the live action and abinatied versions.

I thought Captain Kangaroo was creepy, but I liked Mr. Green Jeans.

I wanted a white sweatshirt with my name on it in that font the Mousketeers had.. still do.

And it wasn't Cowboy Bob, it WAS Buffalo Bob... I misspoke.

When I was growing up we only had 2 channels ( one of which didn't come on til 3pm) so we didn't watch much tv as kids, it also didn't help that we didn't speak English so we didn't know what they were saying lol.

our only cartoon was a snowman called bouli and the occasional episode of bosco (a truly manic puppet that any Irish person here probably still has nightmares about)

When I was about 10 we got a vhs and we could get American cartoons dubbed into Irish, it was mad...... I loved mask, bravestarr and Spartacus and the sun beneath the sea

My kids now watch a mixture of Irish and English speaking cartoons but I have to say I absolutely hate paw patrol!!

Oh yeah, Mr. Rogers!  <3.  New school Revue, is that right?  With the frog and owl?

Squeee!!! I loved New Zoo Review, with Freddy the Frog, Ben the Owl, and Henrietta Hippo.

I also remember Barnaby, though don't remember if I watched it, or just during the summers. It was on at 9, and Bill Cosby did Picture Pages on it. I was also on team Sesame Street, Captain Kangaroo, and Romper Room (Romper, Bomper, Stomper, Boo, Tell me, tell me, tell me do. Magic mirror, tell me today, did all my friends have fun at play? All my friends had fun at play! I see…… The best was hearing your name called on Romper Room.) We ate at 5, so I rarely got to see Mr. Rogers.

When I was a little older, I enjoyed 321 Contact on PBS. It was a science based show, and always had a Bloodhound Gang mystery.

As for cartoons, I liked Scooby Doo, the Bugs Bunny/ Loony Tunes show (don't remember the exact name), and Fat Albert, before it was known Bill Cosby was a pervert.

Saturday nights, we made sure we were done with our baths in time for Hee Haw and The Muppet Show (the original, with Statler and Waldorf as the two grumpy critics.

Dad and I used to watch Rugrats together every Saturday morning while the rest of the house were still in bed. When he went to college to do stain glass design a few years later, he got a wooden artist doll, we named it Cynthia after Angelica's doll.

@Audrey2 We must be the same age! Lol

As for local/regional programming--does anyone here remember MagicLand on Channel 5? I always wanted to go to a taping, and one of my friends got to help out with a magic trick on the show. I was so jealous.

*Deliberately leaving the location out.

All this thread drift has done is reignited my annoyance that I only had standard UK TV growing up. Four channels until I was about 10 and then we got Freeview. Never had Disney or Nick. (Mum didn't like American tv so we never would have got it)

I do have five Blue Peter badges, the ultimate envy of a British childhood, though. And did watch Lizzie McGuire and loved that. Apparently had a Bananas in Pyjamas phase (burned out the VHS) but the only one who can remember that fun phase is my dad, oops.

I had one channel, BBC. My parents had a tv for the coronation. Much later we got ITV, and that's what we had until I left home and came to the USA. I remember my dad going to Chicago on business and coming home to tell us they had cartoons on in the morning.

BBC used to close at night with the national anthem. I remember Saturday and Sunday kid serials. Dr. Who and Dickens.

USA tv stations used to sign off with the national anthem too. DH's folks didn't get a tv until he was in his teens. He didn't get to watch tv unless they were visiting his grandparents in London. When he moved out (at 17), he caught up on Doogal and the Blue Cat, Carry On, and all that. He somehow always watched the Doctor--I guess at friends' houses.

I am looking at my Mr. Peabody figurine as I type. I also have Gumby and Pokey around here somewhere.

Don't forget Boris and Natasha! Those cartoons (especially the Fractured Fairy Tales) were so nuanced that watching them as an adult gave them entirely new meaning!

PumaLover How'd the hair turn out?!

I think it came out nice! I'm a tie dye artist and realized it matched the shirt I was wearing! In other news, I barfed shortly after posting the first time. I blame it on Fuckface.

My contribution to the thread drift-my fave after school show was Fun House! Kids had to run through this obstacle course and grab flags. I had a crush on JD Roth and was so jealous of all the kids on the show. I always wanted to do the obstacle course. My friends and I recreated it in my backyard and it was so fun.ae2d0d0cd62783ee2892cca865123c7d.jpg

I used to love Zillions, which was basically Consumer Reports for kids. They'd review fast food kids meals and talk about deceptive toy commercials. Sounds dull, but was actually really fun and interesting!

Does anyone else who grew up in Atlanta in the 1980s remember Bubba's Good Time Gang that used to air on channel 46? The titular Bubba was a green alien puppet with red hair, not a good old boy, as you might think:

http://www.retrojunk.com/commercial/show/30975/wgnx-bubbas-good-time-gang-more-jokes-and-riddles

I still have my button from the Bubba's Good Time Gang Club. It's rather unfortunate that local kids' shows aren't a thing anymore.
