YAy. Fellow Nevadan. Did you know we've got the safest bridges in the country? It's nice to be at the top for a change.

Fellow Nevadan here as well and I did see that we have safest bridges in the country. Too bad my city was just voted lowest in something else. Oh well, you win some, you lose some...in the casinos inside grocery stores :)

That was the problem,.The bag of rice didn't have a recipe. Someone here posted a screenshot of the episode. I'll try and find it.

Even if there was serving/prep info on the side I still don't think it's a reflection on her.  I know and love more than one person who isn't particularly math confident even though they are very intelligent and capable people.  Point a camera at them and have them do even basic math like this and they are going to become so befuddled you'd think they didn't know what numbers were.

I have plenty of issues with the Duggars but this whole rice thing is just bitch eating crackers to me.

I wasn't too surprised by the announcement, TLC was opening the door a crack when they aired the specials.  Once that happened, it was a done deal.  I think there are many reality shows that are worse (Party Down South, for one.) I hate that Gothardism has shaped their family values but I doubt that most viewers know or care that much about how the Duggars practice their religion.  I think that most fans view them as a real life Walton's Family or Brady Bunch.

That said, I'm sorry that the show has returned but only because I think it is very damaging to the Duggars themselves.  Growing up in the public eye has few advantages and many disadvantages.  Now another generation will grow up as reality TV show stars, who knows how it will shape their personalities?  Too bad Jessa and Jill are so attached to the easy money and the fame that they can't see how they are setting their own children up for a problematic future. The pain they went through with Josh's downfall was magnified because they were on TV-- that should have taught them something, but I'm afraid they didn't learn the right lesson.

Is this a riddle???

Unfortunately these girls women will never know how to be in control of their own lives. Once they are married their husbands own take over headship. These poor women will never know what it is like to make their own decisions or make their own goals for their family. I really hope they get their own money from this show and they choose to leave and live a normal life. But, I don't see that happening any time soon.

I always thought that Jessa would be the one to turn her back to all this. But, she has fully drank all the kool aid offered to her.

How much adulting could a kiddult adult, if a kiddult could adult?

Jessa is desperate. She married a man child and then immediately procreated a man child. She likes her nice things that only good money can provide. She's not going back to frumpers, rice and having nothing. She has no real skills and less reliable educational resources. Although Ben has an AA, he does not appear too motivated to bust hump to support his family.

These folks were not raised or educated in the real world. They think they are above what every other person not named Duggar, Dillard or Seewald must do to exist in this society/world.

Ben got his AA mostly online and it is in political science.  Can't actually earn a living with that!  He said that he wanted to go to seminary to become a minister after the baby was born, and that they might move out of Arkansas to do that.  I guess he had a change of plans when the TLC contract was offered.  I guess preaching the Gospel can take a backseat to reality TV.  At least we know his priorities.

Maybe Jessa is pregnant. She might want to beat her sister to spawn number 2. It did take her longer to get pregnant than Jill. Maybe it took a while to figure out how the Legos went together.

The thought never occurred to me and--not having followed the lawsuit that closely--I'm going to say that it's unlikely.

That's some serendipitous timing, though.

What I wouldn't give for a Sony-level hack at TLC...

Wonder if anonymous could be persuaded....

You know...I could see something like that getting so much attention that the Duggars have to response. Which would be amazing. Of course, it could backfire spectaculary and result in all of the mainstream sympathizing with the Duggars.

The Duggars don't seem to understand that being in the public eye means being mocked and criticized. The Kardashians do, and Kris Jenner in particular is brilliant at turning bad publicity into profitable self-promotion. The difference probably stems from the fact that the Duggars see themselves as reality show televangelists and think that mocking them is akin to mocking God, whereas the Kardashian-Jenners are just about fame.

You are so right.  I'm sure the Duggars see themselves as a ministry and therefore ABOVE "fame" and would be so insulted to be compared to the Kardashians, but their best course of action in this debacle, if they REALLY wanted to get the money rolling in, would be to hire Kris Jenner to work  her magic with their scandals.  She turned a sex tape into the biggest franchise on reality television and endorsements worth millions and millions of dollars.  It is AMAZING what she did.  And the Duggars have the makings of the Kardashians, albeit in a different way.  They have the outlandish and  "freak show" aspect, the abnormal style of dress (kardashian = overdone; duggar = bass ackwards), the sex (Kardashian = overt / Duggar = repressed but obviously so), the controversy, the tragedy, ALL OF IT.  The Kardashians' shows are no less boring than the Duggars but they get LOTS more viewers.  Jim Bob straight up needs Pimp Momma Kris.

And for that, we have Google. Or any basic cookbook (mine was Better Homes and Gardens). That was cooked-up drama for the show, pun intended.

He really should be able to get a decent job with an associate degree in business. That is if he wanted to. But he could support his growing family.

Ben doesn't want to work. No, he wants to be Jessa's baby daddy/boy toy/Christian celebrity/preacher/man of a thousand backward hats.

Well, he targeted and stalked the BEST family for that...it appears NONE of them realllllly want to work. They want to take loads of money for being filmed doing nothing, but that's about it.

GRIFTING should be illegal.

Selling your kids should also be illegal.

Another generation, sold away.

So the original series was about a religious family- and JB has been heard saying that the show was the Duggar's mission; to show the masses how to live Godly lives. Then, they did their best to edit out their true faith tenets, Gothardism. Now we know the crap that actually went on in the Duggar's home and how JB did not handle the situation. Of course, the Duggars had lots of cute kids, so that's the direction the show took.

SO...what is the premise of the new show? Faith? No. Big family, lots of kids? No. What's the catch here? The mission field? The Dillards don't speak Spanish and aren't really doing anything of any real worth.

JD flies? Ok there's 5 minutes.

Joe, Jinger, Joy and Jana hang out? Go to Starbucks? Shop? Hair and makeup?

The Seewalds live like they earn $500,000/yr and actually can barely spell their own names? LA-LA land-

I'm coming up with goose eggs.

Bin want to be a Christian Celebrity like his wife.  If he ever enters a seminary, I doubt he'd be able to do that along with filming.  I have a few friends that went through seminary and it's just as brutally tough as most college programs, if not more.  Jessa doesn't appear to be as much of a cling-on as Jill, so he might actually be able to succeed at it if he tried.

PS - not the damn instant rice drama again :FURIEUS:

I do think Kris Jenner is a sort of evil genius when it comes to business, just like the 19th century robber barons. You may hate her morals, or lack thereof, but she knows how to turn a buck. For all of JB's supposed business savvy, his Gothardist beliefs have gotten in the way of making the kind of money that he could have otherwise. There are no Duggar licensed products, no 19KAC Bibles, modest clothing lines, or hunting rifles, as is the case with the Duck Dynasty guys. The only things the Duggars have given their names to are Gothard's various front groups and other super-fundies like Kirk Cameron, products and services that won't be of interest to anyone who isn't already a fundie. JB seems to be relying solely on the show and his real estate holding to support about 30 people (him, Michelle, the J'kids still at home, and the married J'kids and their kids), and that's not feasible. If he was as clever as he thinks he is, he would have licensed the Duggar name before it got dragged through the mud twice in less than six months.

Man, I ought to watch those Lifetime movies. I go to college in Nevada, where you'd think it'd be all kinds of easy to do some sketchy crap to pay my tuition, yet I'm just in a currently-moderate-but-rapidly-increasing amount of student loan debt.

On a Duggar-related note, I'm not surprised about the new show, but I am growing very weary of all these TLC shenanigans. Also, I will be watching it because I have no self-control. Additionally, I'm a bit curious about how they'll change the show up, as the promos were really different than anything we would have seen for 19KAC. It'll end up being the same old boring Duggars, I'm sure, but I just gotta see it for myself.

According to Lifetime, your options are being a sugar baby or a surrogate mother. If you want to make hella bank, you could probably carry Michelle's babies since her uterus has to be all sorts of defunct right about now. I'm also blindly assuming you're a female. Kindly inform me if this is not the case and I offer my sincerest apologies.

In real Duggar talk, format has to be completely different in order to keep viewers interested again. Realistically, we're interested in the adults/older kids and want to hear what they're doing with their lives that might indicate some sort of independent thinking/action. We are all pretty well-versed in the nuances of raising a big family at this point and there's no secret about their family values, so the logical next step is to get to know the older kids better. While there is a good chance they still might parrot the Duggar Dearests (lolol, like Mommy Dearest. Except it's both of them? I'm procrastinating studying for a test, my material's lacking), at least we can pick their brains a little more. That's at least what would catch my attention as a viewer. Or drinking every time someone says "season of life" or "buy used, save the difference!"

I totally agree....always thought that if the Duggars were savvy they could have their own clothing line , jewelry line, makeup line.... baby stuff as well might be good sellers?  I am sure their fan base would buy into the hype perhaps?  Kris should rep them ;)
