To me, a cult is an offshoot or new religious belief that is centered around a single person.  Gothardism, to me, is a cult.  When a group exploits religious views to control its members, retrain them on the "right" way to do things/wear/fuck/learn, and control daily living that is a cult.

I do not put the JW and LDS in a cult, but FLDS can be, like Warren Jeffs.

To me a cult is a group that you are not allowed to leave/have to "escape" from. This includes the mind control as well as the physically detaining groups. Just my 2 cents.
