Frankie GTH weren't a one hit wonder though, well, not here anyway.

They also had somewhat of a hit with this: The Power of Love (My personal favourite :D)

And this: Two Tribes

And this: Welcome to the Pleasuredome

You're right, DaffyDill. I guess some were regional. I lived in rural Maine in the 80's, and Relax was the only FGTH song we ever heard. Apparently Terry Jacks had more hits in Canada, too. I did not include Come On Eileen even though I love that song, because Dexy's Midnight Runners had like nine albums, but they had only the one significant song in the U.S., so globally, they wouldn't count.

Yeah it must be different from place to place. I'm in Australia, so it's totally different to the US.

I love "Come on Eileen" as well! Did you know Dexy's Midnight Runners were named after a drug and it's effects? Dexedrine was a brand of amphetamine that when taken by clubbers, enabled them to dance all night. In other words, taking them gave you the ability to be a midnight runner/dancer or partier. Hence the band name. Therein ends the 80's music lesson for today

I like the Tubthumpin' song. who can forget Macarena by Los Lobos Or the famous Escape(Pina Colada Song). Does anyoen recall "Jam on it" by Newcleus in the early 1980s? There's also plenty of country one hit wonders.

Dancin' in the Moonlight is up there with Moondance, and good ole VM was not a one hit wonder, but there was a moon theme... so I went with it. I accept no sprinkles.

OH MY GOD THE FLIPPING MACARENA! Staple of EVERY SINGLE SCHOOL DISCO. With other songs, people would be standing around talking/some might be dancing... come the Macarena, EVERYONE gathered in lines to do the dance.

I've also heard of Escape (The Pina Colada Song). Not old enough to have heard it when it was originally released, but my mum was and she introduced it to me.

I'm actually surprised at how many of these songs I've heard of, including Harper Valley PTA. A while ago there was a TV programme (in Britain) dedicated to one-hit wonders. It definitely featured 99 Luftballons (Nena singing the English version, and I've heard the German one too) and I *think* it featured Relax by Frankie Goes To Hollywood, but I don't remember exactly.

The programme also featured this weird song "Da Da Da" by this German band called Trio. Trio have done other songs, but Da Da Da is definitely their most famous, not only in Germany but internationally too.

Take on me - A-ha

I love to pretend I hate this song, right down to the creepy animated video, but honestly I'm just lying to myself because I love this song. If it comes on, I'm signing it. I get excited when I hear it at the mall and it often gets stuck in my head.

Not to mention the hilarious Volkswagen commercial.
