From a fundie I follow on Facebook:

The worlds acceptance of the Pope should be a tell tell sign that he is not promoting nor practicing Biblical Christianity!

I am seriously asking because I wasn't on FJ when Pope Benedict visited the US.

Do you think any of the fundie bloggers (watched here on FJ) will spout off about Pope Francis' visit or Catholics in general since all the media is watching the visit?

*** Edit to say someone else just posted something about the Pope's visit. Mods you may want to merge the topics.

John 15:

18 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own. But because you are not of the world, since I chose you out of the world, the world therefore hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My words, they will keep yours also. 21 But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.

This quote is quite popular in certain circles because it is used to infer that if people hate you or disagree with you, they're persecuting you for Christ and it proves that you're a True Christian™

It's times like these when I think, "Dammit! Doug's on the run, RC Jr. can't post, Voddie's busy moving to Africa, the Reconstructionist Theonomist page is private...", and then I remind myself, "Um, you're supposed to be happy that these guys are getting shut down, DWT."

And Josh is in "rehab" so he can't spout off something special on IG! I wonder if Ben will say something on his IG, we all know his love and knowledge of Catholics.

Who is the crazy fundie Catholic lady from Kansas (I think) that has been talked about here? The lady that is more Catholic than the Pope. I want to see what/if she posts something.

Wait. The Pope is Catholic. Catholics, according to fundies, aren't Christians anyway. I don't see the problem.... :?

WATCHING FALSE PROPHET, POPE FRANCIS, IN U.S. DAY 1 REVIEW. WATCH & SHARE CHURCH: christwatchmanministry.com/…

Pope Francis, the False Prophet, arrives in the US Sept 22, 2015. The Beast of the Sea is here and deception has come with him. The man who satan himself is leading, is in our country church! satan is working for his kingdom...what are you doing for the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ?

I honestly have no idea what the stuff about beast of the sea means.... Also from an SDA

People do not know history...it will repeat itself...the papal system, church and state beast will gain power again.
Apparently he believes the pope is going to force the USA to ban Saturday church services and enforce Sunday Blue laws..

A couple of people linked to this eaglerising.com/24047/obama-disrespects-the-pope-with-immoral-white-house-guests/#zwUme7aJGQb9lPMT.99 where Franklin Graham (Billy's boy) complains that Obama is disrespecting the pope...

The Reverend Franklin Graham had some harsh words for President Obama and the folks in the White House who have been putting together a reception for Pope Francis’ upcoming visit to America. ust last week news broke that the Vatican had taken exception to many of the people that the White House had invited to a reception being held in honor of Pope Francis’ visit to our nation. Among the guests were a number of transgender activists, an openly gay Episcopalian bishop, and an activist nun who leads a group that the Vatican has criticized for not speaking out on abortion or euthanasia. Also adding to the disrespect was the fact that the White House had still not invited any of the leaders from many of the pro-life organizations that the Roman Catholic Church partners with in the US
This led a variety of fundies (most of whom don't believe in anything the pope says or does, and may think he is the anti-christ) to be able to Bash on Obama, who may also be the antichrist. very strange.

Then there are the "Pope is a muslim" comments, that I can't even understand at all....

(to the bold)

HA HA HA HA HA HA OMG that is the funniest thing I have read yet!!

Does he not know that Catholics have Saturday evening mass? As for blue laws- omg that is straight up funny!!! I think he just confused the Pope with Rev. Shaw Moore*. Catholics do not have a doctrine against drinking...just teachings about doing anything in excess.

Is the 'Beast of the Sea' a reference to the Leviathan?

Protestant fundie reactions to the Pope are pretty predictable. I personally am more interested in fundie Catholic responses given how the Pope (and tbh lots of Catholic social teaching) goes against some of their views, eg Santorum's attitude towards healthcare and the poor. Catholic doctrine has plenty of problems BUT much of the social teaching is pretty left-leaning and un-fundie, eg the attitudes towards healthcare and the death penalty.

Are there any creationist Catholic fundies out there?

There are, but there shouldn't be. Catholicism accepts evolution and the Big Bang theory. It's been reiterated several times by several popes (at least since John Paul II), and is official church teaching as to the physical process God used to create the universe.

Unfortunately, there are always crazies, and I've heard of some people saying weird things. My husband's friend, an astrophysicist, left her church because the priest was a creationist. When she told us about that, I told she should complain to her diocese, because the priest was going against the church. I never heard of she did, though.

Lots of posts about it in the last few months, Here is an example fatherjoe.wordpress.com/instructions/debates/anti-catholicism/pope-john-paul-ii-kisses-the-koran/

remnantofgod.org/chrislam.htm

Meanwhile, as the so-called Syrian refugees and ISIS are invading and infiltrating Europe and Western Civilization for the purpose of destroying it, the Jesuit Pope Francis, who hailed from Argentina and the Dirty Wars, is coming to America to meet with the Divider-in-Chief and propagator of Socialism and poverty for the people in the White House.

This is not as it seems. There has always been a secret alliance between Catholicism and Islam. It happened in the Nazi Puppet State of Croatia during WWII when they allied with the Ustashi there to murder over a million Orthodox Serbs in the most horrific ways possible.

Think about it for one moment.

Who are ISIS aka al Qaeda murdering by the hundreds and thousands in the Middle East as we speak? They are killing Orthodox Christians. Please recall history. The Catholic Church split from Orthodox Christianity and the Seat of Orthodox Christianity, Constantinople, many many years ago. The Catholic Church is Rome and they have never ceased seeking their supremacy over Orthodox Christianity which came first and by virtue of that was always the true origin of the Christian faith.

Back to the secret alliance between Catholicism and Islam. It is something that no one has told you in the schools or in the media, and they never will. The Pope is now coming out and openly supporting Islam, (he even went so far as to pray in a Mosque not too long ago), and even going as far as to say that the Bible and the Quran are the same.

This video will give you some background so you can understand this alliance between Catholicism and Islam and the origins of it.

I have learned it makes zero difference to the fundies I read if you tell them the site is satire, they still believe it. and may block you for pointing it out.

Hi folks, Bob here and happy Wednesday to you all.

Today, I will be examining and discussing the conspiracy theory concerns many people have about the many big events happening during this 2nd have of September, from the Pope visiting the White House today (on Yom Kippur), addressing Congress tomorrow (first time ever a Pope has done this), addressing the U.N. Friday, the CERN Large Hadron Collider being reactivated and the fears it may open a portal into another dimension, along with the CERN logo having that “666†in it, and it's headquarters having the Hindu god “Shiva†statue at it's entrance (Shiva is the god of destruction), the Islamic Hajj pilgrimage going on this week, the 4th “Blood Moon†happening on September 28th (which is also the Feast of Tabernacles), the Iranian deal (and it's dangers for Israel), The U.N. debating a Palestinian state, the controversial Jade Helm military exercises coming to an end, and of course, all this right after the end of the current 7 year Jewish “Shemitah†cycle on September 13th.

There are many who feel it's too “coincidental†for all these events to be timed as they are in such a short wondow of time, coinciding with Jewish Holy Days such as Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur (today) and Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles). Some people are also seeing significance in the coincidence that Francis is considered to be the 266th Pope and this day, September 23rd also happens to be the 266th day of the year.

And my personal favorite line today

THIS IS ABOUT CERN, PUTIN, OBAMA, THE POPE, THE NAZI REICH, MIND CONTROL AND JADE HELM!

Lol, there were a shitload of people invited to that reception. A drinking buddy of mine who works on Capitol Hill was there. I think there was a lottery for tickets you could get into if you had the right connections.

That's a reference to Revelation 13:1. "And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy." The ten horns are interpreted as ten European groups that gave rise to modern Europe (for example, the Goths, the Visgoths, the Vandals). The name of blasphemy is interpreted as the inscription, "Vicarious filii dei", alleged to have once been on the pope's miter and alleged to work out in Latin numerals to 666. The seven heads' meaning I can't remember--probably something to do with the seven hills of Rome.

Yeah where I live the local conservatives spend so much time complaining about how the Pope is ruining the church because he's talking about things Jesus was concerned about. Such as the poor and the vulnerable. They were all about the Pope when it was Benny or John Paul II and hitting Catholics and liberal Christians over the head about how we all had to obey the Pope at all times but now that's gone right out the window with Francis around.

Wow this guy is an utter nutcase. One of the nuttiest things I've read since TIMECUBE. :pink-shock: (Yeah I don't usually go looking for this stuff.)
Wait. The Pope is Catholic. Catholics, according to fundies, aren't Christians anyway. I don't see the problem.... :?

Well, the Roman Catholics aren't something. I'm not sure what, but I stumbled across the Canons of the Council of Trent the other day and, well...

“Whoever shall say, that those words of the Lord and Saviour: Receive the Holy Ghost; whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them, and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained; are not to be understood of the power of remitting and retaining sins in the sacrament of penance, as the Catholic church has always understood, from the beginning; but shall falsely apply them against the institution of this sacrament, to the authority of preaching the gospel; let him be accursed!

“Whoever shall deny that sacramental confession has either been instituted by divine command, or is necessary to salvation; or shall say that the mode of secretly confessing to a priest alone, which the Catholic church always has observed from the beginning, and still observes, is foreign from the institution and command of Christ, and is a human invention; let him be accursed!

“Whoever shall affirm, that in the sacrament of penance, it is not necessary by divine command, for the remission of sins, to confess all and every mortal sin, of which recollection may be had, with due and diligent premeditation, including secret offences, and those which are against the two last precepts of the decalogue, and the circumstances which change the species of sin: but that this confession is useful only for the instruction and consolation of the penitent, and was anciently observed, only as a canonical satisfaction imposed upon him; or shall say, that they who endeavor to confess all their sins, wish to leave nothing for the divine mercy to pardon; or finally, that it is not proper to confess venial sins; let him be accursed!

“Whoever shall say, that the confession of all sins, such as the church observes, is impossible, and that it is a human tradition, to be abolished by the pious; or that all and every one of Christ’s faithful, of both sexes, are not bound to observe it once in the year, according to the constitution of the great Lateran council, and that for this reason, Christ’s faithful should be advised not to confess in the time of Lent; let him be accursed!

And so on and so forth extensively...

Looks like I'm getting accursed several times over :P

I came across that when skimming through the book 'Popery as It Was and as It Is', which I found reproduced at revolutionforjesus.com/2015/08/25/popery-as-it-was-and-as-it-is-2/ which is the blog of a creationist cosmologist.
