Duggars on Megyn Kelly, Friday Night Edition

I can foresee the girls trying to shill modesty wear through Walmart.

I don't know. Walmart has become fairly savvy in recent years. They even publicly came out against the arkansas religious freedom bill.

I am not sure they will be so eager to embrace overtly religious clothing peddled by this family.

If they add the Pecans, they could do an episode, where they go to San Francisco and David gets lost and winds up in the Castro and finds out that he really likes it there. (I still would rather watch my cat puke up a hairball than sit thru a show with any of these people.)

I dunno. I'd be willing to pay to watch any of the Duggar kidults sans parental figures witness Pride. Especially if it's in SF.

Good- actually an excellent and worthy option. I think many here, myself included, would cheer for them in this kind of effort.

What the Duggar adults, all of them, need to realize is that the vast, vast majority of people are compensated and recognized based on their marketable skills and knowledge; for doing something that few can do, or for having a skill that others need or desire.

They need to understand that no one owes them anything.

Jana is a skilled seamstress and has access to some decent equipment. Jessa has a flair for style. Jinger takes nice photos and has access to high end equipment, and Jill loves to talk.

They could make a great team.

Jessa Blessa and Jilly Muffin need to grow up and start making their own income. These people think they deserve this show. How can two talentless jobless uneducated girls have their own show. Thumpers like to point out the Kardashians but at least Kris does have to put in work for her 10% Duggars don't do shit but pop out babies and get married. All stuff normal people do. Jess and Jill need to face the real world and stop living off the show. JimChelle need to provide for their family instead of pimping out their kids.

I'm not sure I can blame the girls for milking it. How many of us can honestly say we wouldn't fight to keep that kind of easy money coming? Especially in their shoes, with no education or skills? I have a graduate degree and a good income where I can support myself, and hell, if someone offered me $60k an episode or whatever it is they get paid, I'd probably quit my job in a second and say all sorts of stupid things in front of a camera.

I think it is their right to walk away from TLC with fat wallets. Their parents sold their childhoods and intimate, private moments to a TV network. The show has made a FORTUNE. If they don't deserve the profits of that, who does? Some sleazy TLC exec who was happy to put a bunch of children's lives on TV so he and their parents could make an easy dollar?

The kids should be entitled to at least a basic, comfortable lifestyle, IMO. Screw Boob and Jchelle...I don't care if they rot in a ditch at this point. But if the kids don't each get a good chunk of cash when this show is over - money that is actually theirs, not Jim Bob's - they were robbed.

I don't think they're quite stupid enough to think it will truly last forever, but I think it (potentially) ending so abruptly was very unexpected, and I do feel sympathetic that on top of it all, the nail in the coffin of their livelihood is the public essentially saying, "your parents are pieces of shit who chose the preservation of the family image over your personal wellbeing and do not care about you at all." That's going to be a harsh pill for them to swallow, whenever they can finally get it down. And they will be better off once they begin to see their parents as (very) flawed individuals that do not have to be their own personal role models anymore.

Assuming they were smart enough to play it. But they weren't.

When considering the fact that they've been on television since god only knows when, I think they would be. Consider spending your formative years dressing, acting, and hamming it up for the cameras, under the presumption that you are worth something for merely waking up in the morning - that is a recipe for the hail mary we saw on friday night. These girls aren't just victims of fundyism, they are also celebrity princesses who know what to say, when to say it, and why to say it. It's established that Boob is pretty shrewd and knows how to deal with things so to speak, why would we expect anything less from his daughters? Especially since they've been cloistered in with him for most of their lives.

They've continue to appear in the media despite saying they feel re-victimized, smizing it up for the cameras and pretending they didn't have a choice but still made the most of the opportunity so they could shift blame from Boobchelle to the eeeeevil liberal media. That's the smartest move they could make, under the circumstances and considering how Boobchelle already framed the scandal circus. They are not brainless fools.

I had the same thought. I wondered it again when Jessa was all "Well we don't care if the show is canceled." Maybe because they have something lined up already?

Oh they think they are shrewd and attempt to mAnipulate but they actually aren't.

Considering they had so much they could have learned about TV and commerciAlism they haven't capitalized anywhere near what they could have. Even in the name of evangelizing. Jesus would be ashamed.

Perhaps I'm just being cynical, but I think if the molestation coming out would have secured the collective Duggars more $$$ and opportunity; we wouldn't have been watching the same interview we did Friday night.

The thing is, there's no way that this could have possibly resulted in more money for the Duggar collective. I hate to say it, but if the girls had been victimized by someone outside their family, they could have made a killing talking about how strong they were and how God works in their lives. And, if Josh had targeted someone substantially older than him, people would have just brushed it off like "haha look at him! He's such a stud! Getting them older girls is every guy's dream!" If he had targeted someone his own age, they would have just brushed it off, like the media has with the 5th victim. If she came forward to talk about it now and the Duggar girls hadn't been victims, people would have just said she was after the money/fame. If multiple girls had come out with claims and they were around his age, again no one would have really batted an eye. We actually, probably, would have heard more rhetoric about how he was just a boy and all boys make those kinds of mistakes.

But, because Josh targeted his sisters, and especially because those sisters were prepubescent, there's just no way that they could spin this to work in their favor, no matter how many times they cry about illegally obtaining the records, being revicitmized, or how they've all forgiven and forgotten.

I haven't watched the girls full interview, but I am wondering one thing. They say when he came back from being sent away, he was changed and reformed. But I thought I remembered from the police report that he actually had some incidents after he returned from his supposed treatment. Am I remembering that incorrectly?

And yes, I have to agree that saying fuck you with a big black dick is offensive no matter what the intent. And wishing pain or harm to the duggars is also offensive. We need to wish for justice, not for retribution and revenge. Justice for Jim and Michelle who failed to do so many things over the years, Justice for Josh, who was failed by his parents years before he molested his sisters, and was failed by his parents after he confessed and asked for help and who as an adult with a very dark secret willingly stepped into a life of hypocrisy and lies, Justice for the survivors of the abuse, Justice for the other boys in that home who were raised to believe they cannot control their lust and must be separated from the sisters who raised them or who were raised with them, justice for the fans and the public who were lied to by the adults in this family, justice for the many victims of this family's prejudice, justice for the poor Central American's who have had this family exploit them as heathens in need of saving despite the fact that many of them have been people of faith for years.

Here's the thing. There will be no justice. The SOL has expired. However, I wonder if JB & Michelle and Josh & Anna are being investigated by CPS. If so, I hope all minor children are placed in loving home and given real educations and opportunities. I also hope they never have another child, natural or adopted. They don't deserve them. Stray mama cats are better mothers!

I took as more along the line of "see we aren't saying this stuff to save the show because we really don't care about the show."

It was smoke and mirrors.

I agree with this. I also think it's important to note that, even though they're adults, they're NEW adults in their culture. Until they were married, they were still children. And the last year has hardly been a time for the girls to really question and come to terms with EVERYTHING tin their lives. They're probably still dealing with the idea of not having a million people around them at all times.

Right now, despite their ages, the girls are very much the equivalent of 18 year olds who are going to college in the same town that they grew up in. There's not going to be a lot of growth very quickly. The growth will happen, of course, just not for a while. And not till they're exposed to enough experiences and people who help them grow. Unlike 18 year olds who are going to college, they're not going to have a steady flow of people and events that help them question their upbringing and beliefs; so their growth will definitely take longer.

Maybe not Walmart but isn't Forever 21 a religious company? They might not take the risk though. It would be very interesting to see the girls do a business venture like that though.

Pity the 3rd generation Duggars. their parents are less equipped than their grandparents were, hardly seems possible.

Honestly I can't see it unless there is some gothard approved textile and clothing company and their husbands do the negotiating.

Could you see them in a buyers pitch at a large merchandizer?

and again I was shocked that Jessa basically challenged TLC to cancel the show - her of all people - is Ben rich ? did we miss something?

and when she said that spiel about how the family was closer than ever - it just reeked of what Jessa is all about - indignation and spite - but her voice did crack in the interview - it was the same cracking in the wedding and the engagement - it was there - I heard it crack and then she looked down

some brilliant thoughts out there about how they could have said we are writing a book - but not we got the WE ARE CLOSER than ever crap

and now Jill is posting endlessly again -

Forever21 puts John 3:16 on their bags, but the sort of clothing they sell is Nike-inducing to say the least. I'm not a modest dresser at all (I buy all my "I want to look like a slightly classier version of Ke$ha" going out dresses from Forever21) and I'm occasionally a bit scandalized by the sorts of clothing they market to young girls.

Something that has bugged me, and forgive me if it's been mentioned already, but why did they have a babysitter? Their world is all about self-reliance: homeschool, homechurch, self-employed, avoidance of government help. Why would they need a babysitter? Is it because "we don't let boys babysit"? And then the babysitter became another victim. I also wonder if The Josh Incident is why the Duggars started homechurching, if maybe they got flak from other families in the congregation, so they decided to separate themselves from the questioning families.

And why are Jill and Jessa upset that their pictures are on the cover of In Touch, crying about it? I bet they're not crying when they're on the cover of People, calling it "hokey pokey."

Perhaps this is intentional - if Forever21 can encourage girls and young women to dress scandalously, then maybe they'll continue to have people to look down on? ;)

If you remember the oldest sibling just turned 14 and the parents probably didn't want to leave him in charge possibly overnight or late night with another 5-6 children.

So they got a baby sitter.

The fifth victim which I assume was the baby sitter was also an adult in 2006 which meant she was probably older than Josh.

Yes this is the line of thought was having, but you articulated it much better than I could. Had it not reflected on the family in some way, there would be book deals and paid speeches. Ditto on everything else you said, too.

I had the same thought. I wondered it again when Jessa was all "Well we don't care if the show is canceled." Maybe because they have something lined up already?

I doubt that is the case. Right now, anything Duggar is toxic. If they have something lined up, at most it would be perhaps some speaking engagements at the fundiest of fundy gatherings. That "we don't care" line was completely false. They do care, and care very much. After all, their parents did not help them prepare for any kind of life without the show income. Jessa especially will have to make serious adjustments, since Ben has no job. I hope that young man is giving serious thought to how to earn some money on his own.

If there are any wise heads at TLC, they will cancel the show and drop any ideas for a spin off. (I'm not sure there is a single wise voice there though.) If the idiots running the asylum push forward with a spin off, they will be widely criticized in the media, and any advertisers will probably be bombarded with angry letters and e-mails (I'll be one of those writing to any advertiser to let them know I'll never buy their product for the rest of my life). The spin off show will fizzle due to the awkwardness of the situation and the boringness of the show itself. And eventually, the Duggars will have to learn how to live within their very limited means. It will not be pretty, but that is the fault of the parents for not allowing their children to obtain a decent education or any skills by which to be self-supporting. JimChelle fail. Again.

Hey JimBob - does it burn to know that your dad did a better job at raising his children than you did? For all your denigration of him as a man, he raised two children who could function in the world and earn a living. Something you have failed spectacularly at.

The show gave JB lots of exposure; opened other opportunity doors- that's what he's angry about. This goes well beyond the show, and limits JB's ability to get the easy money and fame stroking gigs.

Forever 21 is a Christian company, all of their bags have John 3:16 on them.
