Duggars on Megyn Kelly, Friday Night Edition

From the police report:

Det. Hignite asked how this report was disclosed. Inv. Taylor stated that an undisclosed person had written a letter approximately three and a half years ago describing an incident where the [redacted] had been sexually assaulting [redacted]. The undisclosed person placed the letter inside of a book. It is unknown who wrote the letter and Jim Bob and Michelle will not disclose who wrote the letter. The book was loaned out to a member of the Duggar's church and the letter was found.

The Duggar's had traveled to Chicago Illinois to appear on the Oprah show last week. The Oprah show had received an e-mail from a female that warned the show about the Duggar family.

The Harpo Studios had faxed the letter to the Department of Human Services Hot Line. The report was then opened for investigation.

It's kind of unclear from the way the report was written, but the 'letter' that was faxed by Harpo Studios seems to have been the e-mail they received warning them about the Duggars - NOT the letter that was written and put in a book. The letter-in-the-book seems to have been their (the Duggars' and the police) explanation of how the knowledge of Josh's misdeeds got out in the first place.

I am emotionally and mentally over the abuse that has happened to me in the past. HOWEVER, I would never want people to know it happened without ME telling them specifically. I would freak out if the media found out and announced it to the world without my consent.

It's not a matter of not being over it, it's a matter of how people treat you, it's a matter of privacy, and it's a matter of feeling violated.

Well, I guess it is a combo of dealing with it and saying it really wasn't a big deal (that whole attitude that they took).. Just seemed over reacted. I know I wouldn't want that to come out either, but just pick one and go with it, the whole reaction seemed conflicting.

Plus, no matter what we think about the huge, life altering, fall- out being due to the hypocricy and the creepy cultish beliefs -- to them it's going to feel like their entire world was completely up- ended due to being molested.

They go from being media darlings -- to, within the space of a day - having even Re- runs of their show pulled ( talk about being shamed! ) and a bazillion lurid and negative stories everywhere. And yea, obviously no one is owed a reality show -- but it is also going to knock down their income and standard of living substantially. Who wouldn't be devastated by all of that?

Oh, I get that, but that isn't why she said she was crying when she called D :nenner:

So would you then go to the media to talk about such?

At which point would the privacy concerns end and the need to publicly speak begin?

Totally understand the need for privacy.

Do not understand the actions, specifically of JB Duggar, of selling the family to the public.

We all have private issues that we would never want shared with the world- and that would prevent most from ever selling our lives and private moments.

IMO, this is what is wrong with reality TV, and certainly when it comes to minors, you're being paid to live your life...well, that includes the bad and ugly too. Far, far different from celebrities who are paid to act out a role, or entertainers who are paid to perform. These folks are paid to let the public in on their personal lives...privacy is gone.

if the Duggars want privacy, reality TV needs to end.

The only person who should come out about the 5th victim is the 5th victim. No one else has that right.

ETA: why didn't the police obtain that letter? Wouldn't it have been evidence?

I agree. The 5th victim (or other victims, if any) SHOULD NOT be identified. I would like for the author and owner of the letter to be identified provided doing so doesn't identify any victims.

I just had a thought. Wasn't there a rumor years ago that Jinger's diary was stolen, and the thief blackmailed the family for money in exchange for the diary? Could the letter actually be pages from the diary? This speculation on my part.

I wonder what jimbob though porn is back in 2002. Back then porn way farm Harper to access and Josh may have been just looking at nude females. Don't dismiss they power of faith keeping the girl with none working husbands we have seen the power of that before

Porn wasn't really hard to access in 2002. Actually, I think the internet was a lot shadier in 2002 than it is now. There was a lot less oversight, people got away with a lot more. I don't know if anyone remembers the old Yahoo chatrooms, but there were user created rooms for literally every depraved (and highly illegal) fetish under the sun, including pedophilia.

THAT SAID, how was Josh getting time alone on the computer (because I'm assuming he was accessing porn via the computer - where would he find pornographic magazines or books?) to access porn? Did the Duggars even have internet in their house back in 2002? If they did, what are the chances that it wasn't a dial-up connection? Clearly if he could sneak out at night to molest his sisters, he could sneak out and get on the computer, but it still seems odd.

Radar Online writes:

"As Radar reported, the police documents about Josh state that “a family friend aware of what had happened had written down in a letter what he knew of [Josh’s] actions … That letter had been placed in a book and subsequently been forgotten about.â€"

But who knows what is true? The whole letter thing is so odd.

The girls have spoken, but I think that people are seeing that it was more about 'the abuse they feel at having it come out in the open' than the abuse that took place to get them in the situation in the first place. It shouldn't have come out, then again it is the fault of those who petitioned and made statements about others that brought them down.

If they would 'own' the fact that it was the family getting political in the gay and lesbian arena that actually brought them down, they would see that their hurt was caused by their own family taking their values to the media.

It's a blame game right now and I think people can see that..
