It has been brought up, and I think the answer was basically, "Maybe, but nobody knows."

If I've got my timelines right, JB took Josh and this witness to the State Police to talk to JB's child porn buddy after Josh got back from his banishment to work camp.

Somewhere on this forum there was discussion of JB going to the Elders of the church, and the Elders saying to send Josh off for treatment, but that he'd also have to go to the Police b/c mandatory reporting.

When Oprah got the letter and the people from Harpo made the report, that is when DHS became involved AND the police report that actually included interviews written down on paper with the victims.

Wasn't it pretty much accepted that Josh took DHS to court to make sure the records were sealed and/or expunged? Per the interviews 'the State' cleared Josh and the home as safe for children.

Is it possible that the hearing with DHS was because Josh was placed on the Child Abuse And Maltreatment Central Registry (which basically means DHS will keep an eye on him forever unless they close the case or Josh requests to be taken off of it after a year of everyone doing everything properly and no more allegations or reports. It also means he can't get a job working with children or volunteer in any capacity dealing with children) Is it possible that Josh was either fighting it, or he was requesting to be taken off of it?

Any insights?

I believe you need to be convicted to be put on a registry. At least, that is how it works in my state.

I Can't decide how I feel about the girls.Jill saying she plans on using the same safeguards (locks on the bedroom door, no hide and seek etc.) because her parents did an amazing job....uh, WHAT? I know it's been said here before, but it's sad that she already sees baby Israel as a future child molester simply because he is male. Jill..news flash--most older brothers do not "inappropriately touch" their younger sisters.

I feel like she's missing a very easy solution to the whole "potential molester" issue: TEACH YOUR SON THAT TOUCHING HIS SISTERS IN THEIR PRIVATE PLACES IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE, AND TO RESPECT THEIR (AND ALL WOMEN'S) BOUNDARIES. Seriously. It's not that difficult to teach "keep your hands to yourself, don't touch people's private parts" to a young child. Maybe teaching kids not to be ashamed of their bodies and to understand that there are OK ways to touch people and Not OK ways to touch people is a little more complicated, but not that much more complicated.

But I guess just isolating your daughters from your son and making your son believe that he's inherently a sex fiend and that women are his property requires a lot less actual parenting.

This stuff apparently happens a lot in their culture and they think it’s normal. They really thought the rest of the world felt the same way, because to them molestation is just a normal thing that happens at home. They’re so out of touch with reality they honestly thought saying the kids don’t remember, or that it was over the clothes would actually alleviate the situation.

As someone who has worked with children who have been sexually abused, let me just say i hope none of them are watching this and seeing how these girls minimize this. I am scared they are going to make other victims feel like that molestation is okay.

How does any normal IQ'd adult accept that holding hands and private conversations are impure before engagement, but your brother touching your privates is not a big deal?

I think that they did the interview so they could get the public on their side, can you say spin off. They do not want to go back to before when there was no free over sea trips, being treated like what they say matters biggie is the $$$$$$. My feeling about this whole thing is people who live in glass houses should not throw stones. TLC cancel them, People quit putting on the cover, Good Morning America quit having them on-Duggar your 15 min of fame are up.

I wonder about Jinger as well. I've never gotten the impression that Jessa, Jill, or Joy has significant emotional struggles, but Jinger's speech at Jessa's pre-wedding party thing made her seem really freaking fragile. That could not at all be the case, and she could have truly just been sad her best friend was leaving...who knows. I can't picture her sitting there snickering about how ridiculous it is that people even think this is a big deal, but then, I'm sure she would do it if JB told her to. Idk.

The journalist who broke the story said they received an anonymous tip, and when they went to Arkansas, people talked about it fairly easily. Maybe they had Duggar overkill.

Browsing Facebook today I saw a post on the 19Kids page where a woman defending the family said the parents were PRAISED by Child Services for how they handled this. So that little suggestion/lie has gone from James Robert's forked tongue directly to the Fundie Book of Facts. Otherwise, Betty Bowers is killing it. Love her memes. I'm going to say that of victims they could use to make Josh look good, they picke the ones most prepared for the job since they were the least affected. But Jinger was touched while doing the laundry and was very affected (remember she's the one who said she didn't trust Josh in the police report); and Joy (while she may or may not have a memory of the incident) was touched skin to skin while a book was being read. So all this "we didn't even know so it's okay" crap is the worst thing they could say.

I don't blame Jessa and Jill, of course. Neither of them has really been allowed too far out of the family compound, and their parents have done a superb job of brainwashing all their children. It will take YEARS of therapy to undo what's been done to them (same with any of the other Duggar children), and they're going to have to be in a situation where they really have to question their upbringing before they get that kind of help. I don't think they're going to have that for some time. So far, everything that's been done to them or that has happened in their lives is in line with the brainwashing they've received. They haven't yet been in a situation that would make them truly question.

The people to blame here are the parents and everyone who enabled that parenting (eg: Grandma Mary, any other family member who understood what was happening in that house, their friends that knew, the members of their church, the other families that they talked with, the police officers who dropped the ball, DHS who also dropped the ball, TLC and everyone involved with this show, etc). It's one thing to raise your children to be strangely religious. It's another to groom them to be victims or perpetrators of abuse, enable abuse, and force the victims to forgive their abusers. It's one thing to roll your eyes at wacky religious beliefs your friends/acquaintances have. It's another thing to turn a blind eye to abuse within their home, especially if children are involved. It's one thing to offer advice based on your religious beliefs. It's another thing to help someone enable abuse based on your religious beliefs.

If I am remembering it correctly there was either a Ben video or wedding speech that talked about her being really sinful as child around the age of 8 and how she later talked to her parents and accepted Christ into her life at 14. I wonder did she think that she was really sinful because their learning material told her that her sins were what made her brother do this to her. I also wonder if that material by Gothard made her feel more sinful than her sisters because she was awake and it was under her clothes.
