Duggars By the Dozen - General Discussion - Part Eleventy

I remember an episode from an earlier season, where JB and Michelle are discussing a book they "co-wrote" and the photographs they chose to include. There was a shot of them discussing one picture and Michelle doesn't want it included (or does, I can't remember which). JB wants the opposite of whatever Michelle wants in this regard, and in the end, gives in to her wishes. He says something like "Michelle is the sweetest person I know, but she has a stubborn streak."

I think Jilly is like her mother, in which she's consumed so much kool-aid, that she really does feel like her family is super special, and she's one of the specialist of all. However, she has not mastered the "keeping sweet" facade that Michelle has always had. In addition to having a stubborn streak, she seems rather humorless. In the "how well do you know your spouse" game, she couldn't just laugh off a wrong answer. She had to make a reason why the answer wasn't wrong, or the problem was the way the question was phrased, etc.

So I imagine she is none too pleased to be found publicly wrong for how she wore the baby sling. How dare people question her knowledge of all things baby! Why, she studied midwifery! She's been present at many births! Don't tell her she doesn't know how to take care of a baby. I bet she had "no comment." Now, will she defiantly continue to wear the sling incorrectly, will she discard it altogether and pretend the whole thing didn't happen, or will she accept that sometimes she doesn't know the right way to do things and learn from this mistake?

Open minded and willing to learn, I'm not so sure.

It's been many years ago now but Michelle was once photographed with a booklet put out by Gothard. It was something like "the 49 things wives should know" so an expansion of the 7 Rules that was posted above. We managed to get a copy and it posted here on FJ. One of the rules was about a woman's hair. It should be curly. I remember that because we thought that was a personal preference by Gothard. Also the infamous Adoring Gaze was covered. A wife should always look at her husband with adoration whenever he speaks. Just baffling and proof that any woman with an ounce of sense could never willingly practice Gothardism.

With a look of adoration Michelle also criticized Jim Bob's bad breath.

Oh, Michelle.

:sigh2:

I googled around a bit looking for that booklet, but no dice. I would love to see it, but my google-fu works best if I have unique keywords. "49 things wives should know" just brings up a bunch of garden variety non-fundy stuff.

With all the bad press of late for these people I wonder how they will spin it around. I wonder if attention whore j'chelle will come out with how depressed she has been since she can't have more children or maybe they will have Jill play the ppd card? This would be solely done for people feeling sorry for them and to get ratings, because we know they don't believe in this and would never get help if any of them actually had depression. I am just throwing it out there because I can see them exploiting something like this for $$ and sympathy.

Someone on my friends list (from NWA) is on a plane from NY to Arkansas and the Duggars are on the plane. I don't know if it's just JB&M or the whole clan. Interesting....

That's all I know at the moment. Waiting for her to get off the flight to tell me. She posted while at the gate.

With everyone walking about the early episodes being on cable I got nostalgic for a bit of 14 kids + so I am watching them also. I had to pause and come here when in 14 kids and pregnant again they are moving to the in-between house. so they have paper plates in the rooms of the ‘new’ house stapled to the wall with names like ‘family room’ on them. do these people not ever have paper around? do they have stock in disposable dinnerwhere? why? whhhhy? I just want to know why. :pull-hair:

Does anyone have pictures of Jill using the sling and then the correct way to use it? I can't see it anywhere.

Since we're supposed to make comments- the baby's head should be free/not blocked by the fabric which is a suffocation hazard; you should be able to see the baby's face and kiss the baby.

Thankyou.

The position she is holding him also looks like he is right on a caesar cut. Surely that is still pretty tender?

What would happen if one of the Duggars got jury duty? I don't think they could separate church and state?.

I'm sure they'd be interviewed and then be sent home. I've gotten jury duty twice and both times I was sent home after the interview process and never actually participated as a juror. I don't even consider myself to be that opinionated of a person but I wasn't deemed "right" enough for it either time. Surely the Duggars definitely wouldn't be considered the right fit. They're too politically biased and they put too much emphasis on their religion to be able to make a fair judgement on someone else. There's no way they'd make it past the interview process.

ETA--There's also a number of exemptions. I can't remember any of them off the top of my head, but I'm sure they probably qualify for some sort of exemption.

When I lived in CA & NV they really were cracking down on exceptions. I could maybe see them getting out of it bc their presence is a distraction? Prosecution would love them; defense nosomuch. I think the Duggars would love to be on a jury bc they could impose their values and make a big deal about it. But considering the area they live there are probably heaps of Christian conservatives in jury pool.

The way Courts work is that the Judge routes out those that have age issues first (generally those over 70) and those that have a doctors note for health reasons. After that the Judge will ask for a line to begin for those that haven't completed a high school education. Technically, if the Duggars haven't taken the GED they could get out on this technicality in many states. Then Voir dire begins and this is where they call you up for individual questioning. Each side gets 6 exceptions and they can ask any questions they want in the voir dire process. If a Duggar were called at this point they could make it known during some of the questions that they don't feel they can pass judgment on another because of religious beliefs. That should be enough to get them exceptioned off (trust me the last thing an attorney wants is a hung jury). Then there are other factors that come up depending on the state and if your having a full size or half size jury. Generally you get called up by alphabet so if you have a lot of people before you then you may never get called for questioning and just dismissed (ie. Jessa because her married name is now Seewald may never get called). Then you have the issue with voting because if some of them choose not to sign up for voting then you will never be called for Jury Duty.

For me, it would e awful hard not to be biased in some types of trials such as cases involving child molesters, rapists, and spousal abuser. The court ha better present enough evidence to prove the defendant's innocence. However, people who believe like the Duggars would likely try ot blame the female for sexual assault.

Re:voting

Other things besides voter rolls are now used to recruit jurors. They can get names from driving licenses, welfare rolls, utility bills. Im not registered to vote(dont hate me) and got called a few years ago though wheedled my way out(again dont hate me). Some states lifted age restrictions. Courts were obviously too limited by just voter rolls.

GMA consulted w their own baby sling expert who confirmed the correct way of wearing that type of sling (sorry Jill you're wearing it wrong). They also consulted a dr who discussed suffocation risks. "Jill Dillard declined to comment when ABC News contacted her for this story." They didn't say they couldn't reach her, so that implies she got the message, tho I doubt they got Jillymuffin's # on speed dial. I wonder what's going thru her head now. Maybe a comment will be issued by JB or Michelle saying the internet needs to stop bullying new moms.

I really hope they see it as "a learning experience" they always say they want to learn from people.

Trying to keep their child from suffocation isn't bullying, but I can definetly see Michelle pulling that attitude.

I don't think the Duggars would have any issue serving on a jury. They don't mind judging people. I'm guessing they'd see it as their duty (like the rest of us). Frankly I think some of them would eat up being foreperson. JD would have best shot at being disqualified from jury since he works in law enforcement.

And states are different but my experience was there was no segregation based on education level. I've served several times and have NEVER been asked if I had diploma, GED etc. I also haven't had the alphabetical order experience.

This sneak peak recorded last night make Jim Bob and Michelle look sort of stupid. I'm sorry but how do you know remember where a big huge crib you used less than 5 years ago went...

Another damn scripted episode next week.

http://www.tlc.com/tv-shows/19-kids-and-counting/

I think the sneak peak will be available on this page

Also why did they get a new crib for Jennifer again? Wasn't the TLC one nice in the moving in special or is that the same one? Well I guess the moving in special was 10 years ago so the crib is ancient to the Duggars

I imagine the Duggars, or at Michelle, would be dismissed from any case involving alcohol. During my one experience with jury duty, it was a drunk driving case and the only person dismissed during voir dire was a recovering alcoholic who ran a rehab facility. Any defense attorney would the title would use an exception based on Michelle's anti-alcohol activism.

The one time I had to serve was in NC, in a relatively small community, probably similar to Tonitown/Washington County. They only hold one jury trial at a time, alternating between criminal and civil cases. New trials start on Thursdays, unless the trial from the prior week is ongoing. They call 40 people for each new trial. There were some automatic exemptions that could be taken care of via mail before the date, including full time students and medical exemption. The judge went through a basic talk about responsibilities and the process, and told us we could postpone once due to travel or personal convenience, but would have to come back in 4 weeks and would not be able to postpone a second time. They seated an initial jury (12 + 1 alternate) by randomly drawing cards from the stack of jury duty summons. Each of those 13 people were asked basic questions (name, age, where they lived in the county, where they worked, if they were married, and where their spouse worked). Lawyers from both sides then asked specific questions of a few people based on their basic information. One woman was the niece of a police officer, so they wanted to make sure she didn't know the arresting officer. Then there was the woman who ran the rehab center - they asked her if she could be impartial. She said no, and was dismissed. I didn't get seated on the jury that day, and was actually a little disappointed. I was actually interested in the process.

Jury selection varies by jurisdiction and by the type of court. There is no formula for getting out of jury duty.

Uh, and the Duggars vote.

And, goddamn it, you should want to do the right thing and serve.
