Toni Braxton, sons autism is Gods punishment for abortion

And here I thought the church taught disabled/challenged kids shouldn't be aborted because all lives are a gift and all babies a blessing.

Also, if you have an autistic kid, I guess you are supposed to feel guilty for something you did because apparently God can harm babies to get back at you instead of you know, forgiving you like He says He will.

By this logic, if your child dies, you must have been really bad.

I almost posted this on facebook but I decided it is too offensive as I actually know people who have lost children.

Another Christian celebrity nujob with no brains. So either god is pointlessly punishing her or the vaccine I show can it be both?

I really like her songs. It is amazing how many celebs are wing nuts these days or did a complete 360(cough cough,Lisa Welchel, Kirk Cameron)

I'm not religious but I can see how for some religion can serve a positive role in their life. If however somebody truly believes a God exists that would give a child autism to punish its mother then that God deserves condemnation and not praise.

What had me gaping like a goldfish was she made it about her, how it is to punish her, as a mother of a dyslexic child ( nowhere as serious as autism but as Australia doesn't recognise it as a learning disability it is hard to watch your child struggle) my focus is on helping him succeed and concentrate on positives like he will be able to help others deal with it as he has been through it. The article makes her sound extremely narcissistic.

I can understand that she grew up in an extremely religious home, but I can't help but feel bad for her autistic son. When he gets older, he's bound to find out that his mother once said he was a punishment from God all because he happened to be born with a disability.

And to all those fundies out there, no, autism cannot be fixed by a good ol' spanking and some "faith healing".

What a horrible narcissistic woman. She should be focusing on how to help her son and children like him instead making his disability about her.

A lot of mothers of disabled children feel such guilt over the disability they start to believe it was caused by something they did. If your religious you start looking at past sins, if you are secular you beat yourself up over what you may or may not have done with diet, exercise, or even bad karma. I can't snark this one, it is just too common a reaction of mothers of all sorts of philosophical persuasions to the news their child has a disability.

We all have those thoughts but normal people don't make it all about them. It would be different if she said 'we are looking back to see if anything we did contributed to this' but she instead used it as a excuse to get on the soapbox about abortion, that poor kid will be fucked up thinking God is a bastard that punished his mum by making him suffer, and then be told he must love this cockhead. She is a crazy narcissistic fame whore whose star is burning out and needed to make headlines again

There are plenty of celebrity nutjobs without adding religion into the mix. I don't know why normal people pay attention to their child-rearing advice. Look at all the kids who aren't vaccinated because of Jenny McCarthy. And which crazy celebrity was it who would chew her kid's food and then would, uh, deposit it inside his mouth as if they were birds and not human beings? (I want to say Alicia Silverstone, but it could have been Alanis Morissette.) And just last week I was reading about Will and Jada Pinkett Smith getting a visit from child protective services on account of that photo of their 13-year-old daughter in bed with a guy in his twenties.

Toni Braxton needs therapy. As for Jenny McCarthy, she's a hypocrite. She claims vaccines caused her son's autism, and then does a blu e-cigarette commercial? Bitch, please!

So what's the punishment for being a judgmental horse's butt and not loving your neighbor?

It is Alicia. Never heard that about Will Smith's daughter though.

I am sorry for her and her son that she feels he is a punishment.

How very Calvinist.

Well, the Old Testament does talk about cases where god punishes the parent by killing the baby. David and Bathsheba, anyone?

Don't get me wrong, I think it's abhorrent, but if I were a fundy who took the bible literally, this sadly wouldn't be too far off the mark.

She thought her sons autism was God's punishment for abortion? Seriously? Like someone else said, if their God is the kind of God to punish people by giving their kids disabilities, he shouldn't be praised.

As for the Will and Jada Pinkett Smith thing, I didn't know CPS visited them because of the scandal with their daughter. I know people are criticizing the Smiths for their "hands off" approach to their parenting, how they don't punish their kids, and how they may be too pushy about having their kids into show business. But CPS visiting them because of the scandal...I did not see that coming.

I so agree. So if Oprah or Angelina Jolie told people to stop taking their kids to the doctor or stop eating pork would they really listen to that

I could care less about celebs. If Will and Jada allows their 13yo to hangout with a 20yo who the hell cares. I can't believe the media and cops made such a big deal about it. There are real cases of child abuse/neglect that need to be looked at. Will and Jada are just lazy parents.

Toni clearly has issues. Why would god punish you with your sons autism? God doesn't do things like that. She should know by now every child is a gift from god.

I think the Willow Smith issue has to do with the fact that a 13 year old cannot legally consent to sexual activity. Regardless of who her parents are. We've had a number of cases in Chicago with older men prosecuted for not only statutory rape, but possession of child pornography because they have pictures of a minor on their phone or tablet.

I don't care about Willow' s parents, in the sense that Ooooh, they're celebrities. Celebrity or not, the parents of a 13 year old girl appearing in photos topless, in bed with a legal adult SHOULD be asked just what in the hell kind of decisions are they making for their kid. They're still legally responsible for her.

I had an abortion. I also have a kid with Type 1 Diabetes. Maybe it's the lack of a batshit religious upbringing, or not feeling at all guilty about terminating the pregnancy, but it has never occurred to me that her T1D has anything to do with......um, anything else, but I'm certainly not egotistical enough to think my kid has a chronic disease because of something I did that was "morally wrong." Come on! Talk about reducing your kid to just an extension of the parent! And worse, someone believing their special needs child is a PUNISHMENT.

Willow was not topless in the photo. She was fully dressed. The young man was shitless. He was sitting up on the bed, she was lying on her side. Really I think you could look at the photo and see a couple who are cozy - or it could be a couple of friends hanging out watching television. It was definitely not overtly sexual. Her mother said something to the effect of people saying it was sexual were putting their own pervy/pedo mind set into it.

In just reading the short blurb, and the linked article I noticed that Toni Braxton used the term "

" believed" - not " believes" regarding the abortion causing the abortion. Without reading more I think it's possible that she meant she initially blamed herself for her sons autism, but then realized that was stupid. Entirely possible she does still believe it, but the phrasing seemed a little off, to me.

People get upset when they find out their kid or even they themselves are facing something that serious, and sometimes they dive off into the stupids. Her big mistake was not that she dared dive into the stupid, but that she allowed herself to say it in public. No one can convince me that even the best of parents do not occasionally dive off into narcissistic thoughts or visit crazy town in their head under stress. It happens. They pull themselves together and are loving parents. The problem here is that a celebrity thinks her visit to crazy town is so profound she needs to share it with the rest of the world. Just like some of the more exhibitionist mommy bloggers who are leaving electronic records of their feelings for their kids at certain times that should only have been shared with a mental health professional or clergy.

I am with you here. I guess I just don't see her as being narcissistic. It just doesn't fit the bill for narcissism. Most mothers with disabled children can have great guilt and blame themselves. If anything, I am sad her religion has her thinking she is at fault and she deserves punishment for having had an abortion. Looks like she is also being convinced vaccines may have caused it too. I wonder how old her son is and how long ago she found out he had autism. If it was not very long ago, it would definitely explain the guilt she is feeling as she tries to accept the reality that she has a child with autism and really, honestly, it's not her fault.
