Christian Nielson (nienie's husband) is an elitist douchbag

The blogger who ripped Christian apart brought up a good point about disabled people using public transportation. My boyfriend's mom is a retired occupational therapist. She worked with disabled people and sometimes she assisted in helping them get modified vehicles. Some wheelchair bound people who are capable of driving modified vehicles have to rely on public transportation because they can't afford a vehicle and the modification process. Christian and NieNie survived a terrible ordeal and both had severe injuries. I wonder if Christian ever realizes that he is lucky that his back injury didn't put him in a wheelchair for life. NieNie has long term pain issues from her burns and she has indicated that her hands aren't in perfect condition, but she is able to drive children around.

That is a good point. I have a friend who is an aide for the local public school system program where they teach job and life skills to 18-21 year olds with developmental disabilities. Taking the bus, and all of the decision-making and human interaction that involves, is an important part of their education. It allows them to get to jobs and be independent, functioning adults in the community.

That is another good point. My bf's mom mostly worked with people with physical disabilities which were often spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, spina bifida and other issues. She did work people with developmental disabilities here and there. I read Riding the Bus With My Sister years ago, it was a memoir about a writer who rode buses with her developmentally disabled sister. The sister and friends with similar disabilities got by riding the bus and some of the friends also had jobs.

I think Christian and NieNie are still extremely oblivious to the various situations other people are in. Surviving that plane crash didn't open their eyes that much. Let's say Christian ended up in a wheelchair because of his injuries and NieNie died from her injuries. Christian's family would have probably pooled money together to buy their son and brother a modified wheelchair type van. I wouldn't begrudge a disabled person receiving help from family members, but not all disabled people have relatives who can help them.

Christian and NieNie have visited burn centers and they spoke at some burn victim convention last year. I do wonder if they ever talk in depth to their fellow burn victims. At some point, they are going to probably run into a financially struggling burn victim who has to ride the bus somewhere. I wonder what Christian would say to that person.

Oh my word, CJane's twitter snark at Christian is priceless. I wonder how they deal when they're together: Nie and Christian are all "TEH GAYZ ARE RUINING THE WORLD" and CJane is all "I want gay people to have the right to marry, and oh, btw I'm really excited one of my lesbian friends got married during the short-lived gay marriage experiment in Utah!" Nie and Christian are all "ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT! HE'S GONNA SAVE THE COUNTRY FROM THE EVIL SOCIALIST OBAMA!" and CJane's all "yeah, I voted for Obama because I think he represents a vision of America that I like, and I plan to tell my kids I voted for him with pride." Nie and Christian are all "PUBLIC TRANSIT IS DESTROYING FAMILIES AND BRINGING NASTY POOR PEOPLE TO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. EWWW" and CJane is all "teach me how to teach my kids to think of others that might benefit from public transport, let's get back in the saddle, and oh yeah btw, my BIL is a raving lunatic."

C Jane seemed to be enjoying snarking on Christian on her Twitter feed yesterday. :-)

That. Was. Beautiful.

I used to live in Japan. EVERYONE uses public transport. IIRC, in my city even the mayor had to - they officially banned anyone in city hall from driving as it was a bad example! (I was told third hand though, so may be heresy - but after living there, I totally can see it. Heck, I was banned from driving to work and they shelled out about $350 on my public transportation costs each month).

I gotta love CJane for those tweets. I loved how NieNie was pissed during the last election because CJane supported and voted for Obama. Some shit went down on twitter during that time between the sisters. I like that she is going after Christian and the bus article.

There is a pic on douche Nielson's IG that shows him being interview by a TV station tonight. It looks like it is in regard to the BRT.

devoted21 Hmm. Since you're such an advocate of traditional families, I wonder if you could tell us what it is that you do as the "head" of your family to support it. I believe that, according to your worldview, that as husband and father you should be working for a living to support their needs. Instead, it appears that you live off the profits garnered by your wife as a result of her terrible injuries, which partially resulted from your negligence. So I don't see how you're fulfilling Heavenly Father's role for you. Please correct me if I'm wrong. 37min

Nie's response

nieniedialogues Hey @devoted21 I'm sorry this has hit a nerve. I'm sure you have convictions just like my husband does with other various things. That was a cheap shot. Did that make you feel so good typing it ? And didn't you hear? I keep @christiannielson in a cage all day. 23min

ETA: Maybe devoted's comment can be seen as a cheap shot. Let's be real, there was neglience involved in that plane crash and the Nielsons have profited in several ways due to the crash.

I wonder what NieNie and Christian think about programs that actually put families first- like WIC, SNAP, Affordable Care Act? I suspect their deep interest in families ends at middle-class, 2 parent, heterosexual norms.

Oh, and BTW, I grew up very middle class (father a doctor, mother a teacher) and we had only one car. My mother didn't drive at all until we moved to this country. We used the excellent public transportation system a and, you know, walked a lot.

I don't think Nie and Christian would care for those programs and I totally picture them trashing single moms who use those programs. At the same time, I do wonder if they ever think about Mormon families who are in lower economic classes. Christian and Nie come from large families, but they lived quite comfortably due to their fathers' salaries. I have read a few Mormon blogs, in which the bloggers are middle class and struggling quite a bit on one salary.

What is Nie and Christian's family background again? I know they are doing well now, with Nie's blogs and online business ventures, but I got the impression the family was comfortable prior to the accident and her sudden fame. I did not know they both grew up in affluent homes.

Christian's father owns a truss company/factory in Utah. Nie's father was/is an engineer who IIRC owned an engineering firm.

Hah, I'm late to this, I know, but this quote:

Lately the single most important, most expensive, and most controversial issue Provo City has ever faced and will ever face is the implementation of the Bus Rapid Transit system (or BRT).

slays me. Such drama!

I live in a metro area, and I love me some public transit. I hope to always live where I can rely on public transit, my own two feet, or my bicycle for the majority of my needs. But really, this is the single most important issue that Provo will ever face? May all cities be as fortunate!

CJane is still going and the digs are getting sharper:

This is your daily reminder that not all of us in the Tree Streets (or my family, for that matter) think #BRT4Provo is "immoral." Thank you!

What an entitled twat. I'm so glad that nearly all the comments on the article are taking him to task.

I live in Chicago, and many people do not own cars (myself included). My boss, who makes well into the 6 figures, does not own a car. When you get on public transport you see people of all stripes, and *GASP* families using public transit to get around.

One of the comments mentioned that Christian is being intellectually dishonest, and probably is more concerned about his property values than family values. BURN LOLOL :roasting:

I think NieNie's post today may be directed at CJane...

ETA: here's a snip: "I want to be able to step back and let myself simmer before making

very emotionally charged decisions that would effect and hurt others.

And in the end, I can be respectful to people I don't agree with,

kind to people who have different opinions and thoughts than me."

Gee. I'm so proud of you NieNie. You know who else can do that? My 7-year-old niece.

As someone without children this quote offends me. I have contributed quite a bit to society.

I agree. Contributing to population is not the same as contributing to society.

On-topic: This Christian Nielson is a douchebag. I take public transportation. I am college educated, employed and a published writer. I volunteer and contribute to my community.

I've been to Chicago (on business trips) a grand total of three times, and was blown away by your fair city's transit system--so efficient and inexpensive! During one trip, where I spent several days seeing the sights and traveling around a LOT, the transit card I bought for about $20 still had a good deal of cash left on it when I stepped off the train at the airport (so I gave it to a college student).

I know I spend a good deal of time complaining about the CTA, but I have to say I enjoy not having to worry about parking a car, maintenance, gas and everything else that goes into car ownership. We are members of a car share program, so if we need to make a shopping trip or go to a part of the city where public transit isn't practical we have that to fall back on. For day trips further it makes more sense to rent a car.

Hope you come back and enjoy our fair city soon!

Btw...Christian Nielson is a douchecanoe
