Michaela\Michal\Michael Bates

Ridiculous

Not claiming to be an expert but my niece Michal pronounces it My-kal. Her fundy multiple bible degree holding father claims the name was historically pronounced Mi-shall. Don't know why ge chose not to pronounce his daughters name that way. (Good fundy marriage so wife has no say in the baby names.)

You would think these fundies would check to see how its pronounced in hebrew, since they are all about authenticity.

I don't think the Bates give a hoot about authenticity.

I got my information from here: http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Michal

Michal \m(i)-chal\ as a girl's name (also used as boy's name Michal), is pronounced MYE-kal. It is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Michal is "who resembles God?". Feminine form of Michael. Biblical: Michal was King Saul's daughter, the first wife of David.

Most baby name websites are extremely untrustworthy. I used Strong's Hebrew Dictionary. Behind the Name is one of the best name sites.

I've known quite a few Michal's, all of them Jewish.

Here too - I've worked with several, all of them from Israel. Apparently over there it's a fairly common name.

I'm trying to get a mental picture of the biblical Michal yelling at David for dancing without his clothes on. :o
