The Return of Sparkling Adventures - Merge

Recommended Posts

Aah it's groundhog day. Lauren is blogging smugly about healthy vegan food like kale salad (it's winter. What's wrong with a nice hot soup?), the hairbrushes have vanished and none of the kids have shoes on (again, it's the middle of winter. They have jumpers at least, but no shoes?).

I know toddlers have whims like changing their name, but can't she just leave it at a whim? If Del/Lana can't even remember her new name it's probably better to treat it as a phase than to encourage changing it and take even more stability away from the kids.

Del/Lana... Lana Del Rey. Maybe Lauren will have the girls start up a band next. That would be sparkling.

How cold is winter in Australia?

It's bloody freezing at the moment. It's getting below zero some nights in some places.

My theory with Lauren blogging again is that Aisha actually wanted her mother closer to her or to actually be somewhat "supervising" herself and the younger ones. If she's at least wanting to document everything that goes on she'll be presumably closer to them.

Alice ( Satria's mother) seems absolutely bamboozled by Lauren. Lauren's veiled "Who'll let us park" Fb status today unfolded as follows:

Lauren: Adelaide or Broome? Which way is the wind blowing?

Alice: Whichever way that we get to see you sooner!!! <3

Alice: New adventures or familiar territory??? Go for the new adventures!

A real-life leghumper! Just what Lauren needed.

Ugh this bit with Alice and Satria is like watching a horror movie and yelling at the protagonist to run away from the monster, not towards it.

Also wow I forgot how much pretentious bragging Lauren does in her posts. "We sat with our ~*SUPER DIVERSE*~ friends and ate a ~*RAW VEGAN*~ meal. Aren't we the greatest?"

World's smallest violin playing for you here.

Just messing with you, I wouldn't like to be camping in cool weather. She'll head to Broome, Darwin and come back down the middle as summer approaches.

That's zero Celsius, right?

Yep. So obviously not cold in comparison to most of you guys but for us that's pretty damn cold.

In Perth (where Lauren is at the moment) they are getting about 5-6C at night and 19-20C in the day, so 40F to 70F. In Adelaide we're around 2C to 15C so 35F to 60F or thereabouts.

We do cooling really well here because of the extreme summer temps but in winter we struggle a bit - it is rare to have double glazing, underfloor heating or central heating in my city anyway. We only have a gas heater in our lounge room and that's it. But our whole house is air conditioned.

And Lauren is living in a bus. At least she's scrounged up jumpers for the kids.

so surely it's fine to walk around barefoot during the day? it barely gets warmer than 20°C here in Scotland and I walk around barefoot. Of course we know she won't let the sparklegirls put on shoes once the evening comes...

am I the only one who was annoyed that just because someone is a raw vegan, they "specialise in yummy, healthy food" according to Lauren? I'm an omnivore and I cook some pretty darn tasty, healthy food. Sidenote: I detest kale.

The 19-20 would be the absolute max and only for maybe an hour or two. It tends to warm up slowly and chill quickly. So, benefit of the doubt, maybe she snapped the kids in the only warm bit of the day. But as you said, we know they won't wear shoes ever.

And yes, kale is not yummy. In my opinion it is for rabbits, or compost. Not for food. And it is most definitely not yummy. Especially raw. It is barely tolerable cooked appropriately with lots of seasoning.

I bet Lauren has days where she craves a juicy steak, or wants to pop into McDonalds for a disgusting fat laden burger.

I really believe that she doesn't enjoy her lifestyle because she seems so detached from it. I can't explain it well but it's like she is an anthropologist on an extended field trip observing a new tribe. She can wear the traditional dress, sing the traditional songs, eat the traditional food, yet she is only with them, but not truly of them.

Yet having chosen this path she will be a martyr and pursue it to the bitter end just to prove some bizarre point.

Because we are part of this ~*TRIBE*~....in other words, we've found people to leech onto - again. :nenner:

Am I the only one who likes eating kale leaves?

I'm in Melbourne. Last month was averaging 1C-13C. I live about 25mins from the center of the city, the most recent snow fall in metro melbourne happened where i live in 2005. I've got gas central heating and an enclosed wood fire.

Adelaide can get really, really cold at night. I can remember camping in Hahndorf one Easter when I was a teenager, freeeeezing!!

Yeah, I'm a vegetarian who tries to keep vegan, and my diet is primarily coffee, alcohol, and popcorn. So I agree with you. Vegan =/= healthy.

Ex-vegan here. My diet was pretty much the same, but with potato chips in place of the popcorn.

I'm vegan. But that doesn't mean I'm healthy. Vegan coco puffs and nutella are still coco puffs and nutella. I make an excellent vegan gravy, but it's still gravy; it's still fattening.

Nope, though I much prefer it in stew to in most salads. (There is one delicious kale salad I've had, after much coaxing. The coaxing was necessary because previous kale salads were not so nice.)

I'm vegan, and I like kale salads, and I'm not an asshole about either one of those things. Lauren would not enjoy my company.

I live in a hot climate and am frequently barefoot in winter, so I can't judge her there. That said, I am an adult, and if I step on something, I can get myself to a doctor to have it looked at. Her refusal to acknowledge safety issues bugs me more than her basic neglect.

If you saute' kale with some garlic and a shitload of butter, it is awesome.

If you saute'd practically anything with garlic and a shitload of butter it would be awesome . . . .

I mean snails? Frogs' legs? (Both of which I've eaten and enjoyed, but which tasted mostly of garlic and butter.)

From Lauren's Facebook:

If you've been waiting for confirmation that I'm completely crazy, this is it. We're getting a pet. A rat. In the bus. Hooray for Brioni!

I....I give up. I got nothing.

Rats are actually very clean, intelligent animals IF they are treated properly and trained well. However given the "Hooray for Brioni" I assume this means that the rat will be the total responsibility of poor Brioni and Lauren will just observe as usual.

Oh, I know. But considering how bad Lauren is at even feeding her own children when she isn't mooching off others, I don't see pets getting treated much better. Also slightly terrified at the idea of the rat nibbling quietly away at whatever holds up their hammock at night.

I don't really see them getting a cage/basket/other poo-ing place for the rat, either. Hygienic!
