Okay, I didn't come here to snark on anyone's appearance, but Anna needs better posture. And that black shirt was not the best idea.

Now that that's out of my system, yeah isn't it odd how so many Republican women's events include so many men? Have to make sure the women run everything smoothly, I guess...

Oh, and of course all the women who show up to support Akin look twice Michelles age, or close to it.

I agree Anna's posture would benefit from a few lessons courtesy of Henry Higgins. I don't understand why she is literally sticking her neck out. Anywhoo.. Aiken infuriates me, so I better pass on my comments regarding what a complete and vial douchbag he is.

I agree re. the posture; my first thought was "stand up straight girl!". The black shirt looks okay-ish but what is with the exposed elbows all of a sudden? Both Jichelle and Anna are flashing funnybones.

The black shirt is one of their typical baggy button ups, just more suitable for the occasion. And on my phone at least it appears to blend in with Josh's jacket, so they look like some bizarre conjoined couple with Anna being weirdly contorted. Could be the phone, because I really can't tell where Anna's shirt ends and where Josh's jacket begins.

The men are in normal suits and the women are stuck in dowdy casual clothes that don't go with the suits. It's just another visual demonstration of the power shift. So,so obvious in the old photos when Jim Bob was in full on politician mode and Michelle was wearing her remainder bin calico to match the small children.

If they are out campaigning together and Josh stuffs himself into a suit, why can't Anna wear something similarly polished? Is there a Gothard rule against owning nice clothes?

This. I was going to mention it in my earlier post, but so this.

I have a lot of businessy/steady clothes that would be appropriate for that setting. I bought a lot of it at the evil gay-enabling JC Penney. I do mostly have pants, but I also have a few knee-length skirts that would pass Duggar protocol. As for tops, its not that difficult to find properly-fitting ones that are still modest. Like collared button-ups. Add a blazer and youre set. I don't see how this is so difficult. The outfits were not expensive, certainly not as expensive as the men's suits.

Even for the less modest stuff, its not that difficult to use pins, camisoles and tape to be a well-dressed fundie. It's certainly easier than sewing a whole frumper.

A below the new knee skirt, a well tailored jacket, and a high necked or button down blouse is all that is needed. Or even a pretty dress, some interesting jewelry, and a cardigan. There are so many ways to go. Somewhere, Ann Romney wore a lovely red wrap dress. Collared, below the knee, not too form fitting--perfect.

I can only assume they feel it a waste of time for the women to dress to fit the occasions and venues.

Anna needs a decent strand of pearls and matching studs. Given how reasonably priced good freshwater pearls are these days (and even slightly lower quality akoyas if she's willing to fork out a few more $$$), we're not talking a huge investment. Then she needs a pair of low heeled black pumps; classic Ferragamos are lovely while being very conservative but there are much cheaper brands that would suffice. Finally a good leather handbag and a nice coat. Once you've got these items you can build a professional wardrobe from discount stores and opshops.

I could cobble together a very respectable campaigning wardrobe for everyone's favourite fundie for under $500, including the pearls. Given Josh probably eats $500 worth of garbage a month, it's hardly something that's fiscally out of reach. Is Anna genuinely lacking in style? Or is it as suggested, that she's intentionally frumpifying herself in order to make Josh look better?

I don't think they want the women to look like they exist outside the home, so they just have home type casual clothes. As compared to a Calista G. type who is expected to be polished and able to go off and do visible support tasks on her own.

It's interesting the way the fundie camps are divided up. I remember someone posted about the different kinds of stay at home daughters, with the trophy daughter and the workhorse often coexisting in the same family. Anna is definitely a workhorse, whereas Calista is a real fundie trophy. I guess once you're stuck in a role you find yourself playing it out well into adulthood. Or maybe Calista is a bad example; I don't think Newt is so much a fundie as power hungry and delusional. Calista is probably similarly power hungry and delusional and both saw fundies as a useful voting bloc.

Anna looks just like Michelle - well Michelle a few decades earlier and with a little more bone mass. It's sad to see her giving up any chance of a real identity so early in life.

I'm tired of hearing from the right every time a young kid has a bake sale to raise money for Obama and their parents get blamed for using them as tools. I agree wholeheartedly. Kids shouldn't be campaigning for anything until they are old enough to form their own opinions. Or, unless they can form their own opinions--we know all the Duggars are expected to have the same opinions and thoughts.
