Hellhound on His Trail, by Hampton Sides.

The story of the search for the murderer of MLK. Excellent reads like a fast paced thriller.

Princess of Mars, it was free on my kindle.

I am also trying to read The mysterious Island but it is really boring and I keep waiting for it to get better. I think it will be one of those books I keep reading so I can say yep I have read it. BUT it is doing nothing for me. It has to get better it has too.

And I always have a harlequin romance novel somewhere around. For nights of I just can sleep.

I am going to go download war of the worlds. Thanks for the heads up.

I am a complete book worm so I will be keeping an eye on this for some good books.

Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness and Insurgent by Veronica Roth

Both are second books in planned trilogies. In both cases, I'm stuck and not really liking either book. I want to like them, because the first books showed such promise.

The False Princess, Jingo (again!), The Penderwicks on Gardam Street (the book we're all reading together), and probably at least one more. Excepting The Penderwicks, I expect to be done with them today. I have little else to occupy my time :)

Pratchett's Jingo? Some of Captain Carrot's finest moments occur in that book.

The Last Hero. I'm, uh, eleven years behind on my Terry Pratchett (but up from twelve!).

Just finished Percy Jackson and The Olympians (don't judge)

What'd you think of it? I liked it overall, but really rolled my eyes over the "yup, this is why we're dyslexic!!" line. Language does not work that way, guys!

I liked it and plan to read the continuation series (Hereos of Olympus, I think) Heh, I kinda eye-rolled at the dyslexia thing too but since it was in honor of the author's dyslexic and ADHD teen son, I was too busy "d'awww"-ing to be too bothered by it. I really like modern takes on old mythology, so that was my favorite aspect of the series.

Dune by Frank Hebert

Excellent choice.

For me:

The Iron Council by China Mieville

Among the Truthers by Jonathan Kay. Fun read.

A game of thrones. Late to the party.

The Stirling Singles by K. Leech. Research.

Iron Council! That's the only Mieville book I had trouble with - I love his stuff and I went to a book signing and he was great, a lovely bloke :) He signed a copy of "The City and the City" for me which may be my favourite book of all time. The problem is with me, not the book. I just found it tough going. Have you tried his short stories? They are amazing *Mieville fangirl*

He's a Swappie too (member of the Socialist Workers' Party).

I'm rereading Steven Poole's "Unspeak", a lot of Pratchett (just finished "Snuff", not impressed, but he has his troubles, innit) and a shitload of IRA, Angry Brigade and other communiques.

Have you read A Fine Balance? I loved that book, the imagery it provokes is incredible.

yes, Sola...i loved A Fine Balance. I am very selective about which hard-copy books make my Permanent Collection, and A Fine Balance definitely did.

I found Family Matters and Such a Long Journey for my kindle.

For whatever reason, I have always loved Indian and Chinese writers/novels set in those places. Mistry is a master, as is Jhumpa Lahiri.

Currently I am rereading "The Foundation Trilogy" by I. Asimov. Haven't picked it up in 30 years and that is a shame.
