Rick Santorum wants to take away your porn too.

I wonder if he realizes how many male voters he's alienating with this? Though it will probably get him more fundie fans. http://digg.com/newsbar/topnews/rick_sa ... ain_damage

America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography. A wealth of research is now available demonstrating that pornography causes profound brain changes in both children and adults, resulting in widespread negative consequences. Addiction to pornography is now common for adults and even for some children. The average age of first exposure to hard-core, Internet pornography is now 11. Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships. It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking.

Every family must now be concerned about the harm from pornography. As a parent, I am concerned about the widespread distribution of illegal obscene pornography and its profound effects on our culture.

For many decades, the American public has actively petitioned the United States Congress for laws prohibiting distribution of hard-core adult pornography.

Congress has responded. Current federal “obscenity†laws prohibit distribution of hardcore (obscene) pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier. Rick Santorum believes that federal obscenity laws should be vigorously enforced. “If elected President, I will appoint an Attorney General who will do so.â€

The Obama Administration has turned a blind eye to those who wish to preserve our culture from the scourge of pornography and has refused to enforce obscenity laws. While the Obama Department of Justice seems to favor pornographers over children and families, that will change under a Santorum Administration.

I proudly support the efforts of the War on Illegal Pornography Coalition that has tirelessly fought to get federal obscenity laws enforced. That coalition is composed of 120 national, state, and local groups, including Morality in Media, Family Research Council, Focus on the Family, American Family Association, Cornerstone Family Council of New Hampshire, Pennsylvania Family Institute, Concerned Women for America, The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, and a host of other groups. Together we will prevail.

These are not the people I want defining obscenity.

I don't know if it will win him fundie fans considering that the most conservative areas in the country that are filled with fundies or fundie lights, are the biggest consumers of porn.

Is Santorum running for President of th U.S? or Chief Morality Officer of the Christian States?

Reminds me of the quote: He swore on the bible to uphold the Constitution; he didn't swear on the Constitution to uphold the bible!

(can't remember who that was in reference to)

Anyway Mr. Frothy scares me - and I'm a Canadian.

From my cold dead hands will he pry my porn......*

*actually, it's not really my thing, but all the old republican men are making me want to live a more decadent life.

How does Frothy intend to save the economy and make gas $2 a gallon again when he'll be so busy monitoring everyone's junk? Maybe he'll appoint a Secretary of Crotches?

Beyond that: I'm never sure what it means to be "addicted" to porn. My fundy-lite friend divorced her husband because of a porn addiction. I suppose it becomes an addiction when your wife asks you to stop, and you don't, but that does seem sort of like a catch-22.

I also *highly* question that the average age of children viewing porn for the first time is 11. How would you even get reliable information about that? I'm just not going to buy that because someone says it.

Also, for the record, women can enjoy porn, too. Given the amount of porn that's available and the fortunes that are made on it, I'm thinking a lot of people do.

When people make long claims like this, I feel like writing it all down, step by step, and demanding a citation for each "fact".

Obviously little Dick - that is, Rick, sorry there - isn't going to give us any, but just to satisfy my own self I have to ask: Did he make up these things out of his own mind, or is he stealing these "facts" from other people who made them up?

Yes, but they don't admit it. If porn is your dirty little secret and your spouse is all about Santorum and his morality crusade, you can't argue. You just agree Santorum is right and hold up the campaign sign.

Even if this fool were to get elected president and try to close every sex shop in the country, there's still the internet (♪ the internet is for porn ♪).

It's only an addiction when you are Kirk Cameron and you bash in your computer with a baseball bat (see Fireproof).

It wouldn't surprise me. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if that is the average since the beginning of pornography. Curious, hormonal youths will always find a way to get a hold of porn. The only thing that has changed is the type of media.

Yeah, to be honest, I suspect there were things I knew about sex at age 11 that I have since forgotten. We had filthy little minds and mouths, and we thought we were so grown up.

Still, I think a parent who cares can do a fairly effective job of making sure a kid isn't surfing porn in their own home at least. My son wouldn't have the opportunity to do it here.

Actually, he's prepared to settle for the Presidency since the office of Chief Inquisitor is now extinct.

If you believe the CBC that statistic or something close to it is true. Teens are able to watch porn much more easily now than they used to because of smartphones and so on. Apparently it has generated new expectations for certain sex acts. There was recently a documentary about it. But I don't think that's a reason for santorum and his right wing buddies to legislate it away.

Bah. Teens don't need smartphones. I can't even bring myself to get a smartphone, because I'm cheap as hell. I have a dumbphone.

I'm glad to know our Attorney General will be doing such important work. A project like cleaning up porn should only take every minute of his time forever. But, you know, limited government and all, so we have to put the few federal employees we'll have left to good use.

It contributes to misogyny and violence against women.

If Santorum gave two shits about misogyny and violence against women, he'd have his staff ship him to Antarctica.

if by some evil chance, he becomes President, he'll HAVE to leave us the porn; we have to anesthetize ourselves somehow.

It becomes an addiction when it interferes with your life. Lot of people watch porn, but not at work, not instead of sleeping, and they don't let what they see negatively affect their actual sex life (if a guy can only get hard when he sees stage lighting, fake boobs, and platform shoes, he might have a porn problem). Some people use porn responsibly, some people take it too far. Much like some people can have a few beers for the night, others can't have one beer without drinking everything in sight until they pass out.

I also *highly* question that the average age of children viewing porn for the first time is 11. How would you even get reliable information about that? I'm just not going to buy that because someone says it.

We don't know what they mean by "porn". Is an on screen kiss considered porn? Then many 11 year olds have seen that. If a rated R movie (cause it has boobs) is porn, then many 11 year olds have seen that. If full on, hardcore fucking is porn (which it is), far fewer 11 year olds have seen it. Given prior outrage from some of these "family" groups, Gossip GIrl might be considered porn, and plenty of 11 year old have seen it.

I've gotta wonder what kind of skeletons are buried in Santorum's closet. He's so fucking extreme in everything; red flags going up everywhere.

Because Obama has nothing better to do with his time and taxpayers' dollars than monitor the country's porn.

He's saying whatever the "War on Illegal Pornography Coalition" decides is porn.
