Duggar World Tour

Even if they went to the mall in Jerusalem, it would be more diversity than they'd ever experienced. I remember going there on a Saturday night and seeing orthodox Jews, Russian Orthodox monks, Muslims . . .

I bet they will go to the Dead Sea. Got to have the shot of 19 kids floating in a row.

the whole idea god would be stupid enough to think that everyone should be christian is such a joke. I mean Christians can't even agree with each other how will it work if everyone was a so called christian?

Okay, so I'm new to FJ but I've been following the Duggar board on TWOP since its inception. I'm an Orthodox Jew living in Israel, educated and raised in America.

Re: Amy's mint. It was probably nana, which is a kind of mint here that people use to make tea all the time.

I'm pretty familiar with kibbutzim, and I agree, it's NOT something they'd be into at all. Women are expected to work, and everyone is equal. Also, most of the kibbutzim (secular ones at least) are anti-religion.

I would actually like to see the Duggars go to a Muslim country near Israel. There's tons of history and tourism in the whole area, but once the girls have to borrow a covering to visit a beautiful mosque, they will get over their holier-than-thou modesty pretty quick. On the other hand, Jim Bob might get some ideas and make his daughters start covering their hair and ankles. I just find it hilarious to think of the modesty competitors being the most exposed ones in a room.

Jim Bob wouldn't make the girls cover their hair because as family, they're *very* vain about their hair. So vain, they put fake hair on little Josie. To cover their beautiful locks would be soul crushing!

One more thing I'd love to see them show is the Duggars eating a typical Israeli breakfast.

First of all, it's all dairy because almost of the hotel food here is kosher.

Second, you've got all kinds of fresh vegetables, salads, goat cheeses, and healthy breads.

I'm picturing Smuggar looking at the breakfast buffet and going, "but where are the tator tots? And who in the name of Jeebus eats salad for breakfast?"

Um...pretty much the whole Mediterranean region and most of the Middle east.

Kind of like the reactions in the Ethiopian restaurant.

Speaking of which, I so hope they eat falafel, shawarma, Moroccan food, etc.

They put fake hair on the baby? WTF? Whyyyyy?

They've reused those fake pigtails for at least 3 babies. They have to make sure that everyone knows SHE'S A GIRL. Can't have anyone putting ideas about non-stereotypical gender roles into the head of a 6-month-old who has no idea what they're talking about anyway. It might give the baby a complex to be mistaken for a boy, despite the fact that she's only allowed to wear pink and frilly dresses too.

I'd actually like to see them on a kibbutz. They are generally self sufficient, self educating etc. Many believe in "group" raising of children and arent that far off from some of the beliefs the Duggars tout. I've always wondered why the duggars dont grow more of their own food and function more in the local community. Perhaps they could learn something.

But the kibbutzim were, at least originally, socialist and secular in inspiration. The emphasis was on community, not on individual families isolating themselves from the world. Men and women dressed alike and possibly performed similar types of work. It all sounds like the Christian's fundie nightmare.

Anyway, I'd love to see the Duggars, or any other fundie, for the matter, visit that modern Sodom that's the city of Tel Aviv.

Oh, I'm sure by now they've run into their fair share of Muslims. Northern Israel has large pockets of Muslim Israelis, and if they venture into East Jerusalem at all, they'll be swamped with mosques & Muslims, and Arab Christians. Better yet, if they went across the southern border into Egypt...ho-lay shnapen...um pretty big eye opening experience for them. They'd (the Duggars) start to feel like THEY were the ones defrauding others, dressed in their short sleeves, long hair flowing. Would love to see their faces

Well when I went to Egypt, I visited some mosques and they had these big, green blanket-like things for the foreign women to cover up enough. It's different to wear it than to just see it. I did it out of respect, and I was actually glad that they provided the cover-ups, even though they had been worn by countless women before me (I hope they washed them daily). But that's more than I can say for the Vatican. I was turned away when I was just 13 years old because my skirt didn't completely cover my knees. I respect their right to have dress code standards, but I find it interesting that the the Islamic mosques were more tolerant and accommodating and welcoming than the Catholic Vatican.

That's funny, bananacat. When I was in Rome 8 years ago, there were vendors outside the Vatican selling paper clothing to women who were dressed inappropriately. As I recall, I was wearing a skirt that came just above my knees, and a short-sleeved blouse, and I didn't have any problems.

Interesting how the Egyptians provided the cover-ups, and the Italians were selling them.

While TLC may be footing part of the bill for the trip, I think its safe to assume that if a certain hotel/resort/restaurant is featured in any of the shows (as in a lingering shot on the sign in front of the establishment) then they are offering free service in return for the publicity. I think that's pretty standard procedure.

Oh, I'm under no illusion that TLC pays the full cost of any of these trips - they're not stupid (well, not when it comes to DA MONIEZ, anyway). They find gullible companies willing participants who chip in for ALL the goodies we see on the shows, not just trips. House building/renovation, interior design, furniture, clothing, car restorations, hair extensions, plastic surgeries - there really is no limit to what freebies their interns can scrounge up to keep their STAHS happy. But every time they've sent one of their reality groups on one of these overseas extravaganzas, it has signaled the impending end of the show.

We can only hope the pattern holds...

i'm sure you don't mean it that way, but just reading about opinions they have "as a family" makes me MAD. god knows my overcontrolling parents use that phrase, and i hate it. i am an adult, entitled to my own opinioins, as are my sisters.

AS ARE THE DUGGARS KIDS, namely the older ones. what if they wanted to dance, for example?! (since as a family rule, they don't dance).

i know this is slightly off topic, but i had to get this out.

Yearh, I remember them handing out veils in the mosques too. I was referring more to what the Duggars would expect, say, out in the streets of Cairo. My experience was that of being heckled, and yet pawed at by the men, despite fully coving up my arms & legs.

IMO, I'm not sure that providing people with the appropriate modest wear is necessarily something to be proud of. It's insulting to me, either way, whether or not it's provided, or just insisted that I dress with a certain level of modesty.

My main point was that the Duggars would be defrauding others for once, since they'd be less modestly dressed then the average Mulsim Egyptian.

A poster on TWOP said that a facebook friend of hers attended an event in Alabama that the Duggars attended. She said all the Duggars were there except for Michelle, Jill and Josie. The three stayed behind in Israel because Josie got sick.

Oh... then she must be really sick? I mean, if they had to stay?

I read that post too. Poor baby shouldn't be dragged around the world. Her immune system isn't ready for it obviously. I know kids get sick but with Josie it's different. Why can't Michelle or Jimbob just stay home and take care of their kids! Why shlep them around the world? Oh yeah, cause they get paid to.

certainly something fairly serious if she couldnt fly? (having said that, you cannot fly with chicken pox, so maybe not that bad)

Poor Josie, so fragile and yet she is dargged around the world so young.

I knew Michelle couldn't handle all those kids alone but she even needs to have an older girl stay and help with just one ?!

I do hope Josie gets better soon and it's not that serious.

It wouldn't be proper for JB to leave only Michelle with Josie in a foreign country, which is why I think Jill had to stay.

I think we have all said that Josie should have stayed home, both due to her immune system, and her age. We've also said it was silly to drag several of the younger ones on this trip. They won't remember it, wouldn't have a goeat time, and would make travelling harder on everyone. Just think what fun the girls would have had if they hadn't had to be nannies.

That being said, I can see leaving Jill with Michelle. A second adult would make it easier in terms of getting food, sleeping at the hospital, etc.

But, as always, JB and Michelle will have learned nothing from this.
