I think one of the sons has really pissed Steve off.

Quote

I have not understood how a dad who loves his children would not be very concerned about protecting and guarding their hearts from as much of the world as he could. Frankly, I have been totally at a loss to figure this out. I now believe I have an explanation.

I imagine that if a man isn’t keeping his own heart, likely he won’t be concerned about his children’s hearts either. After reading this, if you have another explanation please write me back. “A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things” (Matthew 12:35).

And a comment about this past weekend

It was such a blessing to see those who could make it last weekend at Woodleaf. What a joy and delight.

Are you an email subscriber? That post isn't showing up on the website.

I agree, though, it does sound like he's writing AT someone in particular.

It's his weekly Seriously email.

Truly, aside from Christopher and maaaaaaaybe Nathan, all the rest could have done or are actively doing something against Steve’s Lifelong, worldwide code of mandated conduct!

Yes, every Wednesday his newsletter lands in my email box. I use a name that is not identifiable as a woman.

It could also be directed at some of the men from his church.
I mean their men’s ministry does evil things like go fishing, and have outings that might be, gulp, fun!

They also mention camping and sports (yes, SPORTS!) for their  men’s ministry outings!

I bet it was Jesse

I don't think so because Jesse just has a little baby that doesn't need her heart guarded yet.  I don't think it's John because I don't think anyone would have the nerve to go against Chelsy.  The Bontragers are right in all matters and they seem like the type who just eyeroll anyone who says they're not.  I think it's Joseph. You can get little clues from his Swift Otter videos that he is getting more mainstream.  He goes to Vegas ever year, is around casinos, women, alcohol at the conventions, has a tatted up social media person, and in a video that has since been removed, he had on a Santa hat and said something like "Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, or whatever you celebrate"  I think between him and the sisters, that is what causes Steve's meltdowns.

I have wondered how well or even if Steve gets along with fellow church members. At best, he must be the congregations resident crank.

Thanks for this - need to check out the Swift Otter website. If you're right, good on Joseph -- I hope, like his sisters, he is leading his best life no matter what his bitter father says or does.

This says everything about who Steve is.  He's a fearful, neurotic, obsessive man with no (zip, zero, nada) understanding that joy and celebration come from the heart.   Or maybe he hates his own withered heart and can't stand it when others are truly happy.

It's been great to see his daughters filled with happy smiles once they got away from SteveHovah's joyless oppression.

I can’t stand steve but his way of thinking just makes me pity him a little. He was always setting himself up for misery. There was no way he could end up happy the way he raised his children. The same goes for JB Duggar. It’s impossible to completely control all of your children. Especially if you have more than 2. They will eventually go out into the world and the world will harm them. All parents realize this at some point. You can’t lock up your children forever. That’s why you don’t lock them up but equip them for ways to deal with the harm of the world. Because if you just lock them up and never teach them how to make it in the world, they will escape and will be harmed more than if you had actually prepared them.

It's true.  They end up like Christopher who is wandering aimlessly through life.  His linkedin is pitiful for someone his age.  Now he's looking for a remote job.  With all those kids he has, he should be well established in his chosen career by now.  My kids have more impressive linkedin's than he has.  https://www.linkedin.com/in/christopher-maxwell-a59603240  His parents should just give him the family business.  At least he would have a steady income.  I'd  love to know how he feeds his family because kids are expensive.

I’m sure Anna keeps that family afloat. She’s the real worker with a purpose in that house.

Woah. According to his linked in he got a bachelors degree and a masters?! And volunteer experience at a church different than where his parents go? What’s going on?!

Olathe is 32 miles from Leavenworth.  Did Chris n family move there?  Isn't that where Joe and Jesse live?

I noticed the degrees Christopher put in his LinkedIn profile, too, and am also surprised.

Even though WGU is an online university only, it’s still a university. So much for Steve saying his kids would never go to college. We know at least 3 of them did attend.

So much of what Steve wrote about in his books and his Dad’s Corners have turned out to be bunk.

I would be more surprised if he had gone to a brick and mortar college. His going online saved him from encountering a bunch of worldly heathens in person.

Who knows.  He only got his certification last year, and he always did work for one of his brothers.  He changed his linkedin.  When I posted the link, it said "I am looking for a remote position."  Now it says "I am open to a remote Scrum Master position"  They read here.  I just don't understand why these fundies keep having kids on purpose without the man having an established job.  That has got to be stressful on the wife.  It seems like they find ways to make money instead of getting a job.  I know the feeling of wanting your own business and getting through the hard times when people say to give it up already.  I went through that when I got divorced.  And you want it so bad you can taste it.  You know deep in your soul that it's what you were meant to do.  I ignored everyone and made it.  But I didn't keep having kids.  It's a very bad idea to keep procreating when one doesn't have a constant flow of income.  Losing your job is one thing.  Or quitting a job that you can't take any more is understandable.  But to keep doing this on purpose is not a good idea.  It's not healthy on the wife who is too submissive to put her foot down.  She keeps it all in and that causes all sorts of stress.

Steve is upset with someone again (not that it's unusual in the last few Seriously).

He never talks about the love of Christ, only that if you don't toe the line you're doomed, I tell ya doomed. And what does he mean by saying after a woman gives birth, she wants to hear the birth story? As my daughter says, I am so cornfused.

So, so sad to think that God is vengeful, angry and manipulative. Who would follow a religion with that kind of punitive God? Steve’s heart is not open to Christ’s message. I’m glad his kids have moved away from that God in their adult lives, and most are not repeating the dysfunction and extreme negativity with their own children.

If I'm reading Christopher's LinkedIn right, he got his Bachelor's in Dec. 2023 and his Master's in March 2024.  How does that work?  Can you start on a Master's before you finish your Bachelor's?  And I wonder what made him decide he needed the formal education.

I didn't look at either school's fees, but I'm sure they cost a reasonable amount, even if he was able to opt out of courses with his work experience.  Maybe he's better off financially than we think, or maybe his parents or a sibling helped pay.
