Steve King using being Iowan as an excuse for more of his racism:

Quote

Rep. Steve King, the Iowa Republican who has made a series of statements embracing white nationalism, on Thursday noted a contrast between the response of people in his state to spring flooding and the response of the residents of New Orleans to Hurricane Katrina in 2005.  . . .

"We go to a place like New Orleans, and everybody’s looking around saying, ‘Who’s going to help me? Who’s going to help me?’”  . . .In his home state, he said, residents looked after one another without government handouts. Meanwhile, Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds has declared a disaster in more than half of Iowa’s 99 counties because of severe flooding and is seeking a federal declaration that would free up funds from Washington.

“We go to a place like Iowa, and we go see, knock on the door at, say, I make up a name, John’s place, and say, ‘John, you got water in your basement, we can write you a check, we can help you,'" King said. “And John will say, ‘Well, wait a minute, let me get my boots. It’s Joe that needs help. Let’s go down to his place and help him.’”

King, who was stripped of his committee assignments in January over comments questioning whether the term “white supremacist” was offensive, said FEMA officials are “always gratified when they come and see how Iowans take care of each other.”

Speak for yourself, asshole -- I can't imagine that everyone in Iowa is as racist as you are. Anyway, it sent my mind directly to this:

Oh, there's nothing halfway
About the Iowa way to treat you
King would beat you
If he could, that’s if you’re black.
There's an Iowa kind of special
Chip-on-the-shoulder attitude

He’ll use as his excuse
For an attack.

He can be cold
As a falling thermometer in December

If you ask him to condemn supremacists.
And he’s so fuckin’ racist,
He could see folks of color
Being perfectly nice
And never unclench his fists!

But what the heck, you're welcome
Send us bucks from FEMA
King can brag his fill
While we rebuild with all your help!
You really ought to give Iowa a try
Provided you are Caucasian!

Being perfectly nice
And never unclench his fists!

But he'll give you his shirt
And the back to go with it
If you’re white (do you get the gist?).

So, what the heck, you're welcome
(You said you were white, right?)
Even though he may not ever mention it again.
You really ought to give Iowa
Hawkeye Iowa
Dubuque, Des Moines
Davenport, Marshalltown
Mason City, Keokuk, Ames
Clear Lake
Ought to give Iowa a try!

Or Thank God! Along with the consumption of various deleterious spirits, engaging in celebratory reproductive activity, and just generally making merry.

Iowan here. I fucking hate King. Every time he opens his mouth he makes Iowans look like a bunch of backwoods racist hicks that only have sex with farm animals and family members.
