Was Jackson the first televised birth? What was the cause for the c-section? Would stress from the cameras contribute to failure to progress?

I had to go back and watch the special. Jackson was transverse they tried to move him for a few hours but his heart rate dropped and so they did a c-section. also they changed his name a few weeks before he was born he was supposed to be Judah Benjamin.

a big thing that glared at me. Michelle went to the hospital at 3 in the morning no mention of calling another adult and no kids woken up. which means they left all fourteen kids home alone well she went and labored and this would have been after or around the time Josh did what he did.

Yeah, I dont think that was the reason for it. I believe he was the wrong way and they couldn't turn him.

No Johanna was the first televised birth.

no Jackson was he we got to see him pulled out of Michelle's cut open uterus  that was 14 kids and pregnant again. at the end of that episode we find out that Michelle is pregnant with Johanna and it's a girl. then they say when she was born. we pick up in another special going backwards for Johanna's birth story.

The fact that they left them in the middle of the night always bugged me too. At least wake up one of the older ones so they know! It made me wonder if it was so common in their house that the kids wouldn’t think anything of it to wake up and find their parents weren’t home.

To be clear, I’m not insinuating neglect. Just speculating on how involved the sister-moms, I mean, buddies were in the daily care of the younger Duggars.

And I guess I'm going to watch 14 kids now. I already feel the regret and shame, but I'm gonna do it anywayyyy

since we are talking about the early special's I have to say the narrator on the first ones was actually really snarky when they were talking about Michelle's pregnancy with Hannie he says and speaking of babies JIm Bob and Michelle have a surprise actually surprise might be stretching things how about a somewhat predictable announcement.

in another special the one when they go on the road trip Josiah is bare foot and he says it looks like someone stole Josiah's shoes.

Maybe they'd said something to the older girls before they went to bed.... so they knew what to expect if mom and dad weren't there in the morning.

I had a c section and the recovery didn’t even come close to the pain of recovering from a tonsillectomy. I had them removed at 21 and the recovery was by far the most painful experience of my life. I would gladly have three more c sections than experience that type of pain.

I've had 3 drug-free births, gall bladder issues and orthopedic surgeries. Of the three, the gall bladder was probably worst in terms of not knowing when the pain would end, but the orthopedic surgeries were the worst in terms of pure pain. Anything with bones hurts like hell. My ACL replacement was an exercise in hell, not even the percocet would touch the pain. Having a 6" stainless steel pin driven through my baby toe and into my 5th metatarsal was beyond horrid. 2 weeks of pain beyond labor. My gauge for pain is whether or not I'd rather have another baby. If I say I'd rather give birth again, then I'm in agony.

With my back and neck and the damn headaches, you're damn right I'd rather give birth again, even knowing that those cute little bundles of mush that do nothing but sleep, eat, shit and cry turn into teenagers who still sleep, eat, shit and cry but they also turn into mouthy pains in the ass.

I understand.I have osteo arthritis and spinal stenosis(cervical).I have had three nerves pinch...at the same time.I had to have a spinal fusion, but before the spinal fusion, before I saw my spine specialist,I went to my reg dr....he gave me hydrocodone...it barely touched my pain,I got maybe two to three hours of sleep. Then I had my fusion and had to wear the C collar for 6 weeks.I'm right handed, but had some issues, with the nerves and could not fully use my arm.I was terrified when I could not lift my right arm. This was in 2016.I could not work,I had to have some physical therapy..then because I was out of work, once I got to 6 months,I was terminated, under federal law, they can do that. And it took about 2 weeks before I had a difference with my pain.Even after I was home, after surgery....I was counting the hours until my next dose, and I over think ,everything...I worried I was going to have a narcotic prescription drug addiction, and I was able to understand how it can happen...yes,pain wise,I have to agree,if it were a possibility,I'd much rather have a baby, than pinched nerves or spinal fusions.

That’s true. It was presented in a way that made it seem (to me) like the kids were clueless to their absence, but that could’ve been due to editing.

I am hoping that they called Mary over and it just wasn't mentioned.

I never had a child. If I ever had a child, no way would I have wanted or even risked a home birth or natural birth.

I'm a wuss when it comes to pain.

Every time one of them enthusiastically sets up a water bath thing in their home for a water birth (see Jill both times and Joy also mentioned having one) it seems they end up in hospital. The successful home birthers Jessa and Anna never had a water-birth tub set up (unless you count the toilet). It seems like a bad omen for this family.

A little OT but I've been wondering. Michelle had some sets of twins, does she have twins in her family or was this purely chance? Seriously curious!

I don't believe any of her siblings are twins ( I could be wrong) as for her super extended family no clue.

I do remember one early morning hospital trip where they did wake up the girls to make JB a "to-go" breakfast-

That was Hannie's birth. now if Jana made the breakfast or if Mary did that's the question. at least we know Mary was there for that one. JIm Bob is just a goob. he put his pregnant in labor wife in the car and had to turn around go back to the house and grab a plate of food from Jana. seriously that is the first of two times he's seen doing this. he also had to have breakfast before Jordyn was born. idiot.

The first special is that the one with the narration that says 14 kids is more kids then most families have seen in several generations? I know one of the specials the narrator said something like that either several generations or many generations. I remember it because it drove me crazy.  That used to be the norm and not that long ago. Maybe one, possibly two generations but several? I only have to hit my grandparents to begin the large families after that its pretty much every generation.  The only really question was how many made it all the way to adulthood.
