The baby name thread!

I could go for an all A's theme for Joy Anna and Austin.

So many good A names.

Andrew, Aaron, Abraham, Anthony, Arthur, Aidan, Archer, Albert, Alfred

Amy, Ava, Alexandra, Abigail, Adelaide, Alicia, Aria, Azalea, Avery

Although, given we are talking about Duggars, she'd probably have twins called Aubrey and Audrey. And other kids called Andrew, Andre and Andrea.

I love A names, but will probably try to avoid it for our second, because email addresses can be difficult if you have the same initials as your siblings.  My sister sent her brother in law a very inappropriate email once, because he and her husband have the same first and middle initials (and same last name).

Now that Joseph and Kendra have announced that they are having a boy, I am going to change my name guess to Andrew Joseph. I will stick with the baby being born on June 29th

I have a cousin named Andrew Joseph... That side of my family leans towards country/redneck, so as a kid he was always  called Andy Joe

I have a name picked out for Joy and Austin’s baby if it’s a boy. It’s the name of a character on the show Longmire: Branch. Branch Forsythe, cousin to Spurgeon Seewald.

Well no one guessed Gideon! Haha, isn’t that always the way, guess they are going biblical! manda b and AlwaysExcited had the date right. No one had the weight and no one had the length!

I thought I was being cruel by guessing 9lbs 11oz. Man oh man!

man, I was also close on the weight, I was 2 oz. off on it and a Half an inch on the length. got the middle name though, so for finally going out on a limb for my first time actually guessing on a duggar baby, im pretty proud of myself :P haha

I guess they won’t be using a name theme of any kind, at least not one that is readily apparent. I can’t see them using G-names as a theme. T for Terry, R for Roxanne, or A for Austin, but not the random G. They could possibly use Old Testament names, which Jill may or may not be using as well. Derick said the -el ending was not an intentional theme, and I do not recall if he ever mentioned if both names being from the Old Testament was a coincidence or intentional. It’s so much easier (and more fun) to guess for Anna.

Also, wow was I off on birth weight and length. That is one gigantic baby.

Maybe they'll do boys' name's ending in -n (for Austin) and girls' names ending in -y (for Joy). No, seriously, I think they probably won't have a theme, or at the very most it'll be biblical names.

@Million Children For Jesus where/when did Derick say the -el thing wasn't an intentional theme? I'm not doubting you, but I must have missed that, and I'm kind of pissed now. :pb_lol: Like you said, it's much easier to guess when there's a theme. When there's no theme it's just like, "I don't know... Oliver? Braxtyn? Methuselah? Tim?"

@singsingsing Derick was talking to his brother and sister-in-law when he mentioned that they chose the name Samuel without realizing that both names ended in -el, and that they chose the names because they liked the meanings they had, not for any theme. It was just a coincidence that both names referenced God and -el is God in Hebrew.

Yes! This! Guessing for Joy... well, they like the Bible, could be a biblical name, they’re outdoorsy, could be a nature inspired name, Austin is traditional, could be a traditional name, maybe a family name, she’s young, could be something contemporary or even made up. So... it could be ANY name at all, except, maybe not a Muslim one. However, they do appropriate other cultures, so that’s not off the table either.

I haven't made it through the Joy threads since Gideon arrived, so I guess this might have already been mentioned, but here is what popped into my head when I heard that Joy and Austin chose to name their baby Gideon:

This is how I'll think of little baby boy Forsyth for now. :kitty-wink:

I know a weird number of couples who did all names ending in "n". Apparently, that's a thing. And, even weirder, two of those have last names ending in "n" so the names become very rhythmic.

My in-laws both have names starting with G, so they named both kids "G" names. Mr. 05 came out pretty well, but not so much for SiL. I worried that he'd want us to do the same, but we ended up with no kids instead.

I have a coworker that chose all Irish names ending in "lan" for their family.  I didn't realize at first since Declan isn't so uncommon but when they got to the 3rd  his name was really obscure and I put it together.

The only (*probably) quiverfull family I know in real life had mostly daughters and one son. All the girls' names end in the letter "a". It actually works pretty well, because they found lots of pretty names that fit the theme.

*I said "probably quiverfull", because they have used the "as many children as God gives us" line, but I've never heard them criticize other families for using birth control, and because I've never asked them about their beliefs in detail. We're somewhere between friend and acquaintance. I know them through other people.

The last letter of my first name is now the same as the first letter as my last name and it kind of flows together as one long name which I don't love. So no names for my hypothetical future children that end in the same letter! Also, our last name ends in an "N", and I feel like most first names I really like end in an "N", and I'm not sure if I love the way it sounds. Examples like Gideon Upton, Megan Lincoln, Jocelyn Arden, etc.

And I know three families who did that N thing on purpose--with two syllable first names and two syllable last names both ending in "an" or "en". I do not like the sound of it.

My college roommate has seven kids. They have the weirdest mix of names ever. Two boys have very traditional Bible names, then one has a name that was very trendy in the 80s (he was born in 2007) and one has a name that is pretty trendy now (born 2009). One girl has a common enough name that is common but modern (not traditional or biblical) with a weird spelling that means everyone mispronounces it. The second girl has a weird name that they may have made up. And the last girl (and youngest child) has a name that was super trendy in the late 80s/early 90s (born 2013). I feel like parents typically are attracted to one type of name--either they are traditional or trendy or super unique. But they have some of each.
