Those striped dresses are just horrible.   Who thought that a prison chain gang theme was a good look for a wedding party?   I doubt that they were snarking on fundie women being imprisioned by their ridgid  gender roles.

Brilliant analogy. That being said, the part of me that likes Tim Burton and all things gothic/spooky digs those dresses. If i were using those stripes in a wedding, I'd want them to actually be black and white, with the bride in a scarlet red dress à la Beetlejuice.

Marrying J'Douche is as depressing as a funeral...

Wedding photos you say?  Bright colors?  Tacky modesty alterations?  We've got them all!

PLUS! Saloon-girl bridesmaid style!  Babies in weird bonnets!  Tacky unity candles!

BUT WAIT: THERE'S MORE

Thank you @Georgiana! They are truly the pinnacle of wacky tacky bridalness. I feel like if I were to show my friends these pictures (most of whom know nothing of my fundie snark love), they would be convinced that The Rods were nothing more than a spoof. Mad TV Duggars, if you will.

I just watched the season premier.

Kendra is cute. She has beautiful blue eyes. She and Joseph seem like a good match - they seem very natural together.

Lauren Caldwell is gorgeous! I'm like 100% sure that at least one Duggar brother must have a crush on her, and I would not be surprised at all if she were to end up with one of them.

Interesting. Did they specify that they only do that for their daughters or does that apply to every child?

I don't remember them saying anything about giving Zach any money but I honestly didn't pay a lot of attention to them until Erin was married.

The bridesmaid dresses in Emily Long Carmicheals wedding also looked... interesting. Very shiny. The mother of the groom made all of them, she gives sewing tutorials, but I don't know if I would like to learn from her... I wish they had chosen a different fabric.

Her sister, Haley, tried to do better with black and red dresses, but somehow they couldn't get everyone the same black dress. The red dresses are all the same though.

And speaking of modesty alterations... I am pretty sure the tulle thingy wasn't part of the original dress. It's still a beautiful dress but I think it would have been better without it.

Oh God, I had forgotten about the neon monstrosity that was Alyssa Bates' wedding.

And it wouldnt have looked so.... garish if she had just stuck to one colour. Just the hot pink would have suited so well for instance. I thought she looked great but yeah rolling my eyes about the bridesmaid dresses, even now! I agree with the idea that they didnt get to have it whilst kids and its those kid ideas that seem to be executed as they are rushed into adulthood. Erins bedroom was the same thing. I loved Kendra's hair and dress too!

I honestly think Kendra is so pretty. But there seems to just be good genes in that family in general. I'm sorry for anyone marrying into the Duggar shit show though.

I really liked Jinger's colours, but 3-4 variations would have been enough. Really loved Joy's flowers!

Kendra is very beautiful and I think if you go by her parents, she will just get prettier with age. It will be interesting to see if the Caldwell genes take over or if their future children are all Duggar.

I loved the bridesmaid dresses for Anna's wedding. I loved the color, and I loved the inset pleat. I know someone made them, and whoever did, did a good job for the most part. They looked very nice and tailored.

I like tailored rather than frilly, and my sister, who stood up with me when I married Mr. Four, wore a very tailored (and very borrowed, all we paid for it was the drycleaning fee before we returned it) burgundy colored dress. It was lovely.

Tim & Franicia White attended the JoKen wedding on Friday, and were still in Arkansas this Tuesday, and Franicia miscarried baby #8 (or something like that) [also, I am surprised fundies find it acceptable to wear black to weddings]:

SNIP

I was just looking at Anna's wedding, and what I think makes it seem kind of drab is the lack of color with the flowers. I agree, the dresses actually do look nice, but it would have looked really nice with bright bouquets to offset the neutral color - this is coming from a person whose bridesmaid dresses were coral and had colorful bouquets so I'm certainly biased.

The main thing I remember from photos of Jill's wedding are the awful bridesmaid dresses.  I have a feeling the obvious alterations help them scream "look how extra modest I am!" as opposed to something that's not altered, modest to begin with, and draws less attention to the modesty factor.

I thought they weren't that bad? Though a better sewing job might have made a difference, as well as a little of the cream fabric added elsewhere to carry through the outfit. (Caveat: I've only seen still pictures, so I don't know how they were overall in motion.)

Anna's dress was just a little bit plain for me. Come on, it's a wedding, don't you want at least a little sparkle/lace/pizazz?

Nope! Seriously, I at least never wanted a glitzy dress; when I tried on dresses for my wedding I wanted something simple but pretty. I ended up with a plain, lightweight fabric, net short sleeves, and three spots of a lace motif, one on each sleeve and one underbust. I loved it.

It sure looks to me like Josh was a part of the wedding party.  I highly doubt he'd be wearing a boutonnière if he wasn't in Joe's wedding party.  Ugh.

Might have been an usher? That's a way to fit someone "in" without the weight of the bridal party itself. Or escorting in Grandma Duggar. Either way might still warrant a boutonnierre and include him as family while not giving him a rubber stamp of approval and brotherly love.

Go, Alyssa. You do you. :in_my_humble_opinion:

Seriously, a lot of those dresses, colors, etc. aren't what I'd pick or aren't the most flattering, but they're not uniformly hideous. I've seen worse. And I have a hard time telling women that they can't have what they want on what is possibly the only day of their lives that they have any real agency.

Most of the Duggar/Bates bridesmaids dresses look too frumpy and old-fashioned. That's the only way I know how to describe them.

Every time I think of the Whites, I think of poor, poor Heistheway, and the way her parents talked about her losing weight at 12 and how they connected weight to godliness, and basically were awful about it - and her mother wanted to write a weight loss book in partnership with her.  My blood is boiling!

@habert  Thanks for all the wedding pictures!  I love having them all in one spot.

Making a plea to have a wedding thread that contains the photos and details so we can easily reference them!

I tend to prefer simple as well, but the problem with Anna's dress, imo, is that when you go really simple, it must be really well-tailored, because all of the focus is on the fit and there aren't any frills to distract from any issues. The sleeves of Anna's dress are too long and aren't sized correctly for her, the skirt is too short, and the top quite literally fits like a men's tee shirt.

Drives me crazy every time I see it.

Jill's dress wasn't that bad in theory, it was very ill fitting.  The dress she chose also had it's own more modest version (might have even had sleeves ... can't really remember now, but, someone here did find the dress and showed the other option too) , but, of course, they can't order due to the tight timeline and the bridal shop actually made it more modest for her, so the look was the same.

However, their seamstress needs to fired, while the modesty additions are not overly obvious, the fit from her waist up is atrocious!  They have no issues wearing snug t-shirts, so, I don't think that they would have asked the seamstress to not make it fitted ... I think :)

ETA:  Not my type of dress though, less is more to me!

@Fluffles I think this is the rumour you might be referring too https://www.thehollywoodgossip.com/2017/06/kendra-caldwell-did-she-court-jedidiah-duggar-before-joseph-dugg/

like someone else said though there is no credible evidence for this!

I can't imagine being a bridesmaid 8 times! My current count is 2 and I'm only expecting to be one again twice max.

Those pictures were like travelling through the years, Jana has definitely landed on a good hairstyle these last few weddings.

For those asking about Michael's dress:

I believe she went with the one she did due to cost. At least that's what I remember from the show. I believe Michael liked the dress shown in the preview, but it cost more than she could spend. I can't remember where this is from, but I've seen posters here claim that the Bateses apparently give their daughters $10,000 for their weddings. Anything more than that is on the couple to pay.

They managed to save by having family bake the cake and arrange the flowers (I believe Kelly's sisters did this as wedding gifts), but with a massive guest list there simply isn't a ton of money to work with when it comes to the dress.

Michael had also mentioned she wanted a dress that made her look "skinny", and when she came out of the dressing room, Carlin made a big deal about how the dress made Michael look "this big" (gesturing a very tiny waist).

I need to get something off my chest. Jessa had the ugliest, cheapest looking bridesmaids dresses. If I remember correctly, she didn't seem to care and said something to the effect of, "I decide what they are, and you have to wear them".

Yep. They were by far my least favourite dresses, and that's 100% what happened.
