Yes they do. That's how I got 2 acres and a house (small one), from my grandfather. My sister got the same.

The Arndts are also into ducks.   Hmmmm ... Botkins, Maxwells, Arndts, Ducks. Perhaps the preferred fundie bird?

Well, I never!  Ok, @dpndetfarm, First, last and in between, I had no, absolutely NO warning that this is a graphic duck penis video. None! And that a scientist would be measuring a duck penis with a transparent corkscrew glass duck-penis-measuring-instrument thing (and a ruler).  To be fair, there was the duck penis extruded into a straight and extremely long glass test-tube-like duck-penis-measuring-instrument thing (and a ruler), so there's that.

No amount of adorable fuzzy little ducklings can make up for this.  And with Easter coming up next month?  I'll never be able to think about the Arndts or ducks (especially guy ducks) in the same way again.  Verklempt. Totally and utterly verklempt.

And @dpndetfarm? True Facts is the bomb.

We have ducks. We (meaning I; my 19yo to whom they belong is unfazed) don't look too closely.

@Howl, I totally misread "guy ducks" as "gay ducks."

Heh. Not too far fetched if you clicked on @Petrel's link to the article: "The first case of homosexual necrophilia in the mallard Anas platyrhynchos"

Geoff also appeared in http://www.lifelaunch.com/kickstart-speakers/ but only in one session so he didn't make it into the list of primary speakers :P  (I haven't seen his session yet.)

Sounds like the Botkins are getting deep into the doomsday prepper scene. Maybe that explains their silence lately: they've been in a bunker. Wasn't there a Botkinette lecture a year or two back that was all about "being sturdy pioneer women so you can survive in the post-apocalyptic wasteland"?

I humbly suggest they try Fallout 4 :P

(One of the sons did mention being allowed to play a military simulator videogame once.  With the difficulty on maximum, and only until they died the first time, then never ever again.  As an object lesson.)

@CyborgKin, Lifelaunch is a brilliant find!

Let's for a moment consider the irony of these men -- who don't have "job" jobs themselves -- sitting around and thinking up this straw man scenario:

  • 20 somethings failing to launch!
  • gamers with $100,000 in school loans!
  • living in parent's basements!
  • zero direction in life (scary!)

I don't know any 20 somethings like this, probably because we don't have basements in Texas.

Anyway, LIFELAUNCH will protect you from this scary scenario that doesn't really exist, because the 5th - 19th centuries were wonderful for everyone!

But things haven’t always been this way.

In the past, children were raised by their parents in family economies. Fathers worked with their sons. Mothers worked with their daughters. Mentorships and apprenticeships were common, especially for young men who needed to learn a trade. Because of this practical discipleship, young men and women not only understood their purpose in life – they were prepared to pursue it.

Noodle around long enough on the Lifelaunch site and you'll finally get to it:

  • Kickstart Challenge Only: $199
  • Kickstart Challenge with 2 Coaching Sessions: $299
  • Kickstart Challenge Study Group: $149/Student (discount applied at checkout for 3+ registrations)

The final irony is that many of the men putting together Lifelaunch!  are mentoring their sons in various forms of grifting, and not in learning an honest trade.

Geoff seems to be latching on to the coattails of these movements (BeyondOffGrid!, Lifelaunch!) to relive the glory days  of VFM cash flow and to make (by association) The Western Conservatory relevant again.  He's not a principal in either, as far as I can tell.

Final note: emphasis on college as being the only route to success has created shortages in the skilled trades -- slowing up construction in many areas of the country.  (from NPR!)

The Botkin boys don't use video games anymore.  They "train" with real guns.  It's a miracle that they haven't killed each other yet.

I can't find the video I want of them doing fake military maneuvers but this is another example:

I'm seeing a big opportunity here for guys to pay to come hang with the Botkin boys for a weekend of shooting and becoming manlier Christian men.   Because, had there been guns, Jesus and the apostles would surely have done this out in the desert.

I shall see your True Facts duck video, and raise you one Isabella Rossallini Green Porno duck video:

Well @amandaaries that was, hmmm, interesting,  especially given the fact I had to watch it with the sound off while I wait for my car to be serviced.

I am assuming Isabella is a certified duck biologist? LOL

She's got a whole Green Porno series.  One of the weirdest things ever! Also amazing.  I just love that THAT is how she's choosing to spend her time.

The barnacle and shrimp ones are really good too.  I hadn't seen the duck one before.  Thanks!

Reading Libby Anne's blog post about Geoff's beliefs makes me even sadder thinking about how the Botkin daughters were raised.  If you believe as Geoff does, the logical conclusion is withdrawing more and more and walling off the outside world.

It ages her.  Drastically.  I'm within a few years of both Botkinettes, and this photo makes her look outside of my generation! It's not a fresh, young look that would resonate with a young fan base, certainly.

Interestingly, I couldn't help but notice her sister has over twice the followers she does.

That's an interesting family photo to me at the top of her page.  Men in my part of the country don't wear, or even own, long wool winter coats.  In their world I assume that "brother" automatically means "brother in Christ", and everyone assumes that their actual brothers couldn't be lazy or in sin, because Botkin!

Neither one is what I'd call a Facebook addict, but her sister does post more often.

I would say that her eyes make her look like she's in a hostage situation, but that's just too easy.

She is a hostage.....to Daddy.

And for that reason, we’re not being supportive sisters if we’re supporting the vanity, worldliness, foolishness, or laziness of our brothers – much less if we’re “covering” more dangerous sins, like pornography, drunkenness, or abuse. Even girls in conservative Christian families can have brothers given to these sins, and choosing to “overlook” them is not love, or biblical womanhood.'

It would make me happier than it should if Elizabeth is passively-aggressively throwing shade on her actual brother(s).

ETA:  BotkinSisters.com is a good looking Web site.  Plus, It's (Not That) Complicated is now available as an audio book.
