It could be that they are getting older and don't have much energy.

If I remember correctly, that was their exact response.  Still think the methods they used to train their children are awful.

So is it safe to assume that Gil and Kelly only have the little ones and that the older non-married children are at the Duggars?

Today is Zach's birthday. Bradley helped make the cake.

It looks like Brandon and Michael are still in Chicago.

I just can't get over how stinking cute Bradley Bates is.  Literally one of the cutest kids I've ever seen in my life.  His parents may have batshit beliefs, but damn did they make an adorable baby.

It's funny how each of their littles has an older sibling who they very closely resemble.  (For the boys, look at some of the throwback pics--- the girls you can really see)

(Jeb-Zach, Judson-Lawson, Callie-Erin, Ellie-Carlin, Addee-Michael)

Am I just an old curmudgeon and that's why I don't understand why they need to post this stuff publicly?

They're married...they have the ability to communicate their feelings for each other without social media so it can't be for each other as its for others...

What' the point of this?

I love my husband and if it comes up in conversation I might mentiom something awesome he did to others...but I'm talking to them about him.  If I was going to write him a love note I wouldn't post it for the public.  That's so werid to me.

its like the fundy super G rated version of a sex tape...taking what's typically an intimate and private thing and sharing it with everyone.

More or less, it is to share their love of each other to their friends & family and promote marriage. Now, they are in showbiz they have to share their attraction for one another more so the fans can be "a part" of their family.

I think that once you start putting every detail of your life on social media it becomes hard to stop. I have friends that may post something on Facebook as Whitney did but you don't hear anything else from them for six months. Others post even the mundane, i.e. checking into McDonalds.

When you have an iota of fame like the Bates or Duggars, it probably becomes more important in order to keep the interest in you, especially when you have nothing else. If you notice, the biggest celebs rarely post, and if they do, it's usually project specific. You never hear about them unless a movie or album is coming out. They have their body of work to back them up. People like the Bates need the attention to keep their show going because all they have is eleventy kids and a weird lifestyle.

Ah, makes sense.  I'm so glad I'm not famous, because the pressure of promoting marriage would be too much for me.  I would feel obligated to present a balanced picture...the love notes sure, but also the little screeds about how if he laughs at that same stupid commercial one more time I  going to pack...or wondering why a grown man with a good job and fine intellect can't figure out how a hamper works.

I'm glad they're doing it , though, because so few people have heard of the institution of marriage in the US I don't think people know they can fall in love and share their lives.

Thank you, Bateseseses!

Maybe next they can promote the concept of having children!

(all snark directed at the misguided battttessesesess and not you :) )

Hahaha. I was reading and I was like what? Then, I saw your last statement. Funny.

Sidebar: Did you know that celebrities make money off of their instagram postings? Like 10,000 or something like that. Crazy.

I discovered while flipping through channels today that I get UP and could watch their marathon of Bringing up Bateseses. I've never seen any of it. I am very hesitant, though. These people scare me more than most of the families discussed here because from reading reaction to them, they somehow make their extremist views seem charming. Even to people who tear apart other extreme fundies.

Eh, I can't fault the Bateseses [esp the young marrieds] for being the literal poster children for marriage and family.  It's the life goals of the women and the men are supposed to support them (in more ways than one).  At least they are more adept at social media and update their Instagrams more than the beleaguered Duggar family who still have that picture of the kids as clowns (ironic, eh?) near the top of their feed.

And compared to the Duggar young marrieds, the Bates young marrieds post things that make them *more* attractive (well, excepting those who complain about Alyssa's clothing choices not being modest enough) and they seem more adept at social media now than the Duggar kids are.  Of course I will add the typical disclosure that this makes the Bates kids and their beliefs seem more palatable and therefore more dangerous, etc. etc., but they do have a show to promote and may be receiving media coaching from the UP folks.

I think they're more adept at social media because they're better socialised. They know how to present your best side only, are capable of hiding their judgement and have experienced outside the immediate family. All of that makes for a far more interesting social media presence than "here's another photo of howlers piled onto our ugly couches watching a film"

My advice:

1. Read recovering grace in between commercials so you remember who they are and how extreme their beliefs are.

2. Do not watch any seen with Chad Paine in, he will make your girlhood tremble.

3. Every time you see Gil and Kelly with their kids, remember Michael potty trained  them all, so they would be in shit without her.

4. Scenes with Erin talking about her miscarriages will break you heart and you will start liking the family.

5. Whenever Lawson sings, play it. It helps from falling in love with the family.

small steps that can help.

Erin's Little Miracle

01/11/16 - 08:00pm Erin and Chad have their final appointment with Dr. Vick and anxiously await the arrival of their baby. Since the delivery is a high-risk procedure, the family is on pins and needles, hoping and praying that all goes well.

I grew up in Knoxville, and it always trips me out when I run across random connections my family has to the Bateses, even though I don't think I've ever met any of them. Dr. Vick has been my mom's doctor for ages, and he delivered my younger sister.

This sounds like a good New Year's Eve drinking game.  Any other things we should drink to?

I'm just trying to set "safe guards" to keep your hearts "pure" while watching these shows. Like Jill Duggar said...You can never be too careful. Please consider me your accountability partner.

I am excited that that they are back, I need something to keep my snarking heart entertained. I will however be smacking the smile off of my face periodically. They are so sneaky and normal appearing that they suck you in. Guard yourself well fellow FJ’ers Its a dangerous rabbit hole to dally in.

So when is the special announcement?  I'm dying for them to confirm Nathan's courtship to Ashley.  Think, a family who displays a picture of a KKK leader with a son courting a Latina.

I wonder if they consider this part of their ministry, to be an example to others of how married couples should show their love?  I'm a very private person so I do not publicly share my loving posts to my SO with friends and family.  I definitely agree with letting your spouse or SO know how much they mean to you, and that you love and appreciate them.  I just prefer to do it privately.

I have thought that maybe the stress of Josh's infidelity could have been the culprit. Josiah did look up to Josh and it could have shaken his faith in relationships for now.
